The saying goes "Give a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life." It's a quote from Terry Pratchett's Jingo.
I wrote a big thread on reddit/smashboards about Inklings ledgegrab, it is definitely a unique case and one worth talking about. Their ledgegrab is like fox magnet hands from smash 4, they grab it from so low that they are immune to all grounded attacks except eruption on the first frame of vulnerability and on the second frame, only vulnerable to particularly low-hitting hitboxes like ness yo-yo, k.rool stomp, c4 explosion. The vast majority of characters can not hit them whatsoever. When I see things like top lucina or fox players trying to 2-frame an inkling with dtilt or dsmash it's frustrating. It's literally impossible, but they never learn and miss 100% of the time.
Y'all should make a video on how the different stick sensitivities affect gameplay, it would be very useful to beginner and intermediate players who are still not completely satisfied with their controls like me 🦅
@@NutHoofd I've spent a lot of time on both settings and still unintentionally dashed or smashed at low sensitivity when I wanted to walk or tilt, or vice versa on high. Barring it being a placebo feature, I've come to believe the difference is incredibly insignificant. Hopefully somebody gets some hard facts about it soon.
Do tethers like Ivy's Up Special avoid the 2-frame? I'll check myself but it could save someone else some time here. EDIT: Huge thanks to you guys for replying to this and for the pin! Super useful stuff. :)
Tethers do NOT put characters into that 2-frame animation. The character gets pulled to the ledge and becomes invulnerable (usually) as soon as the hand touches the ledge. But they can often still get hit out of that before they are completely at the ledge, similar to regular 2-frame punishes, it's just a bit harder to get them!
@@BeefySmashDoods Do we know how long the reel-in animations on tethers are? In PM, sometimes people would try to interrupt people reeling themselves in on tethers, and it was much easier to do on some characters than others due to how fast or slow they reeled in. Is the same possible in this game?
I'm not exactly the best player, but I do main PK Trainer, and I can say from experience that Ivysaur is punishable from the point the tether latches to when she grabs the ledge, and that people can and will target that window. Use of razor leaf against an edge trap or up-a against an edge guarder prior to up-b are the most effective defense I've found. As if that wasn't enough to worry about, at certain positions, vine whip will go through the stage instead of targeting the ledge, which can be a legitimate way to attack, or when unintentional can force a switch to Charizard at best/cause an SD at worst. I don't know if other tether recoveries are quite as weird or risky.

When Ike uses his neutral special to edge guard... and succeeds.. is it because the hitbox goes underneath the ledge, or because it's easier to 2 frame with this move since it lasts multiple frames?
I guess both. More space below the ledge means you can catch people even before the 2 frames. More time active means you have to time it less strictly.
so what exactly is a "beefy up b"? i've heard a term called stage slashing where wolf could forward b past a ledge by holding down to not grab onto it... is this the same thing?
If you shield some characters are invurnable at the first frame on some parts at their body (like [dark] samus, ridley and some other). Yoshi is the most ineresting one because it is before and after his shield and looks crazy. Just saying and hope that someone can test if this isnt a visual bug, because i am stupid and wasnt abel to do this. Nice video by the way i like what you guys are doing.
Basically if you’re up against a god you’re getting two framed and there’s nothing you can do I guess the best advice is just know the match up and learn how to recover based on the character
There's and easy way to find out if a recovery is able to be 2 frame punished, no matter the character If I do it, then it is punishable If the opponent does the same thing, it won't be punishable

I think the consensus is that high sensitivity feels "more responsive" but nobody has hard evidence and apparently it barely makes any difference.
