Maybe Shrey should have searched the discard, embrace the conquer vision and take by force the bandit relic? Then he would have been ruling the most sites! Anyway, watching with joy four strangers play a strange game for, what, 20 hours so far? It is a mad world. Keep at it, it's awesome!
Just a few rule checks: 39:17 - Ken cannot move to The Hidden Place since he had no secrets to flip. 2:46:27 - I don't believe the chancellor can join as an ally because it says "If an imperial player is DEFENDING, the chancellor joins as an ally". The imperial player is attacking and thus would not be able to gain any allies. That is my interpretation of the rules at least. 2:48:30 - All banners must have a minimum of 1 favor/secret on them at all times. Therefore, the banner of the darkest secret would be in Edward's possession with 1 secret on it. Some advice: 1:38:52 - Shrey could have given 2 favor to the Elders to get a secret and then use the plague card in his advisors to make Ken burn 4 favor. Thus, Ken would only have 2 favor and no secrets at the start of his turn making him unable to recover the peoples favor. 2:35:15 - Instead of moving to the charming valley to muster for defense against Shrey I have an alternative move that might be better. Since Shrey only has 1 secret and no favor, Ken could just move to the Hidden Place and be totally safe from Shrey. This is because it requires 1 secret to move there and 1 secret to campaign there for a total of 2 secrets (which Shrey did not have). Hope this is helpful.
Additional Rule Check : @1:04:04 Alyssa HAD to kill an additional Warband to get to 10 to beat the Bandits, as she basically tied it with 9 with the she paid. @2:49:35 Ring of Devotion doesn't let Ed place Warbands. This game would have been SO much different had people ran to the Hinterlands to hide from other Supply-restricted Players when trying to defend their stuff. Also, shrey could have tried to get the Vision of Conquest and fulfilled it (by taking the crown or sites) instead of going against Ken and losing twice. Alyssa using Crop Rotation to get Key to the City and using it against Ed if needed (which was the case at the end). And many more! It's quite interesting how a lack of perspective can change the outcome so dramatically..
Thanks for putting this out there. One of the only channels I find that uses a physical board during play. TTS is nice, but having everyone in the same room around one table is a better experience in my opinion. Can’t wait till Episode #7. Thanks again.
I might be wrong but Edward could close the game at 1:46:23 by going in the only empty spot in the hinterlands and revelaing the vision! They wouldn't be able to recover it because no advisers and they can't campaign it because of narrow pass? Could it work? :D
I can't believe I watched all of these all the way through. That was probably the best one. I can't wait for chapter 7! Keep them coming please! Was hoping Alyssa would take the win as Successor as I think it would be interesting to see a Citizen win.
Saw your post on BGG, so incredibly useful to decide whether it will fit or not in my group. Also, thanks to ylu now I'll watch all this episodes too!! :-P
JUST AMAZING. The group is amazing and I think this is one of the best games ever. Just for the future games: The banners always must have a minimum of 1 Secret/Favor, as appear in the card ("Min. 1") and in the Law of Oath. So they always have at least 1 die to throw if they are sized. Good game, I LIKE a lot the "I started a cult in the Hinterlands, in a strange empty coast, and after being protected by a narrow pass". So cool!!!
What a great series of gameplays! Wasn’t sure about getting this game because all the negative reviews, but i bougth the game after chapter 3. All 6 games have been very different with a distinct vibe in each one, it shows the good and the bad, with enough information to decide if it is a game for you. Hope to see more games of Oath from you, the game group is soo great, love the dynamic between the four of you. Keep the good work, great channel
also Shrey could have gotten the bandit crown when Ken had only 1 warband and then searched the vision of conquest. Often when players say there is nothing they can do, a path to pure win is staring them in the face almost every time
Correction: In Round 3 Alyssa rolled 6.5 (and death of 1 warband) and bandits rolled 9. She needs to lose 1 warband then pay 4 not 3 to BEAT rather than TIE the bandits. Therefore she would not have enough warbands to claim all 3 sites and everyone would be tied for 2 sites at that time.
I was so close to screaminng at the screen :D Spoilers Edward could have forced a lot (probaly a win) by moving to the last location in the hinterlands and revealing. Also, Alyssa should still have a shot at winning in the last turn by playing the Deed Writer, negotiating for a secret with Shrey, recovering the darkest secret and moving somewhere safe. Thanks for uploading these videos, you're lovely and I adore the games! Looking forward so much to getting this on the table again! Althought, I might have learned to much from you :P
I'm late to the party, but on the last turn Alyssa didn't even need to negotiate for a secret with Shrey. If Alyssa played Deed Writer to Barren Coast, she would have earned a favor, as well as placed a denizen that did not match one of Edward's advisors. With 2 favor, and a hearth card in their advisors, Alyssa could have traded with hearth for a secret, and recovered the darkest secret with one secret. Edward would have to campaign for it since the denizen matches one of Alyssa's advisors. However, this likely would have given Ken the win, as Alyssa likely wouldn't have much to stop Edward coming for her.
2:01:17 Edward has 100% win an hour earlier at the end of turn 5, benefit of the doubt in deep thought seeing a different line. I See 1 Supply Recover the banner adding 4 secrets to it, Pick up your 1 warband just for show, 3 Supply Move down to the Salt Flats, Muster for 1 supply also for show, and pick up a warband on your sight also for show. My thinking, it costs Shrey 6 supply to move to the Salt Flats leaving him unable to attack Edward for the banner, Charming Valley adds 1 to Shrey's movement, Shrey HAS to move to the Narrow pass first, and then down to the Salt Flats where Edward would have ended his turn. Neither Ken or Alyssa have enough supply to move to the Salt Flats from the Cradle, they would first have to move to the Narrow pass for 4 Supply, then down to the Salt Flats for 3 Supply, total 7 supply, nothing left to campaign. If someone did manage to make it to Salt Flats to attack Edward he would have 7 war bands, and 4 Secrets on the Darkest Secret, Also Reveal the Vision for the win. The only line for a win would be attaining 5 secrets, in order to take the Darkest Secret back form Edward, but with the board state as it is in turn 5, I don't see that happening. Just sharing with the internet seeing I was screaming this at my screen when it came up, cheers.
Thank you guys for this series. I love this game very much and I had a blast watching you play. You did an awesome job showcasing the game's capabilities and I've learned few very good tricks. Big big love. ❤I will follow your content with interest.
I wonder what was going on in Shrey’s mind when he strongly dismissed the idea if picking up the Vision of Conquest. Going after Ken’s Bandit Crown with that Vision locked down would have been a much more feasible plan than sticking with the Vision of Rebellion. There was a window of opportunity there where Ken was basically defenceless.
Really enjoying your play throughs of Oath. It's a game I'll never get to the table consistently enough so it really is a pleasure exploring it with you, thank you. There has to be a way of mitigating those defence dice some how, boy are they rough! Team Shrey for the win next game, boo to Black Ken :D
Holy smokes!! Was literally opening up to watch the last 2 turns of game 5, sadly thinking "Well.... that will be the end of that!" But no.... here it is... the next chapter - giving me a brief reprieve before I must be sad. Amazing timing. Minutes to spare!
1:43:00 So in order to campaign against / target a banner, you must also target the defender’s pawn and also must target your current site (if controlled by the defender)? I thought you could target ONLY the banner.
Banishing and/or targeting any relic or banner of that player is targeting the pawn. So you always target the pawn if you want his things, so his warbands always defend. You don't have to banish him if you attack a relic or banner. If the defender owns the sight, you must attack the sight, too. Imagine that he is hiding in his local castle.
Watching this a day late. Very exciting game this was! Spoilers . . . Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't someone (especially Shrey around round 5 or 6) have won by taking the visions of conquest (the rule the most sites one) and then taking the bandit's crown, instead of the harder target of the people's favor? Is there some reason why that wouldn't have worked?
Just awesome, didn't think my interest would hold for 3 hours but I was hooked all the way. Amazing game fellas, here's hoping for Game 7. Couple of thoughts; couldn't Shrey have gone for the most sites as a win option? Seemed possible. Also, on the last move, could Alyssa not banished Edward to a site with unlatching denizens and then recovered the Darkest Secret on the last turn?
Hey, thx a lot for the great game. I have two questions: 1. Why did Shrey not attach Ken for his Bandit Lord Relic instead of locations an stuff 2. When being an Alley, I believe sharing Banners is only if the pawns are at the same site so Alyssa and Ken should have not joined forces against Edward due to them not being on the same site.. Is that right?
Gaaah. 1h50m - I wish Edward had revealed the vision and moved to the unrevealed hinterlands site after slighting Alyssa. Everyone else would need to go to the narrow pass first, so they'd need to spend max supply to battle for it (2 to move to narrow pass, 3 to move to salt flats, 2 to campaign) and none of them had the supply. Can't recover it without denizens on the site. It would have been checkmate!
Didn't Ken had enough to move there and play one of his 2 cards? He might not be able to recover it himself, but he can place a denizen for other players to recover it.. ?
@@Big_Dai Aaah. Yes. If Ken moved there, and placed a denizen, then if someone else was able to get 3 more secrets with enough supply left to recover, it might have worked. I still think it would have been pretty likely Edward would have won an hour and a half earlier. :)
I'm really not sure Ken could add his warbands in that campaign, because there is no mechanic that allows you to do this when your pawns are in different sides, in WHOLE GAME. Correct me if i'm wrong. And i'm not sure there can be 0 secrets in D-Secret. It says "1 min". I think u should burn just one. Btw, nice game, enjoying you from Russia
I also think you are correct. I also think the chancellor joins as an ally only if the imperial player is DEFENDING. In this case the imperial player is attacking and thus wouldn't get allies.
Fundamentally, each orange die is worth 1.5 - 2, as you can always sack a warband for an effective +1, each blue die is worth 0 - 64, with exceptionally high variance. I'm not calling it bad, but I can't think of another game with that difference in variation between the two sides, when both get a roll. Aside from that, I can't think of another system that rewards additional dice as much as Oath, for the defender, the average value of each additional die increases exponentially, which might be thematic, but it makes planning an attack difficult. I think a partial solution might be to do what Edward tried to do, which is to add up the multipliers before applying them, but even that only turns a x8 into an x6 for the most part.
"each blue die is worth 0 - 64" this claim is ingenuous. If you only fight against 4 blue dice, each blue die is 0-4, no where NEAR what you're claiming. And the rulebook clearly states 4 dice is the beginning of the danger zone, that the attacker WILL be relying on chance to win.
@@rattenusrattoonus1880 With 10 orange dice, you can have an effective potential offense of 15 to 20, with 6 blue dice, you can have a defense of 0 to 32 (or 20 depending on if the 2x is additive or not). I still can't name another game that difference in potential outcome.
I think the biggest problem I have with a Defensive Win is the fact that they cost nothing. A Player that is well poised to defend, can do so against ANY and all Players going against them.. as winning for them costs nothing. So the variance is "required" for this kind of system.
Ah nooo!, When Shrey to the Banner of peopel and said it would have been good with one more book. He actually could have got that extra book from the elders by their free action, and then run his plague card to make Ken pay 4 favours!
