I just bought my first Morakniv and I was so completely surprised at the quality and durability you get for the price. I don't know the name of the one I bought yesterday but it's a lot like the Finn Bear by Cold Steel but superior in my opinion. This knife is razor sharp right out of the sheath so to speak. Yesterday's purchase made me an instant fan. Lightweight, simple, durable; this brand seems to have it all. Glad I discovered this knife maker. I'm a life-long collector and will probably end up owning their whole line given time. Great video man. Thanks for sharing.
Moras are a great budget friendly starting point for bushcraft/survival, but they take a little work to make them ideal, and the edge seems to damage easier than their higher priced competition. I always grind the spine to 90 degrees to strike a rod, and force a patina on the carbon blades to help stop corrosion. It's really true that you get what you pay for, but the Mora is a great place to start. You can pay more for some other knives out there and get less quality than the Mora, that's for sure. The Garberg is the best Mora IMO.
“Not being full tang is going to bother some beginning survivalists because they don’t understand or have much experience with knives that are not full tang.” I subscribed to the channel because of that one sentence. So true. The full-tang fetish really bothers me. When I read or hear someone say your knife has to be full tang, I am automatically on guard and am going to assume they are an armchair bushcrafter or survival skills enthusiast... they’ll need to dig themselves out of that hole by saying a number of smart and sane things that bespeak experience. Dave Canterbury for example... He says it. I don’t agree with him but the rest of what he says bespeaks years of experience far beyond mine. So I listen and learn.
For a kitchen/cooks knife used heavily full tang is a good idea, at work 3-4 knives broken recently because of having short tangs and plastic handles several Giesser's and one Fiskars. Mainly by batoning through cod spines and being too small. For batoning a large blade is better...use a magnet to see how far tang goes Into handle. Rosewood is nice. I got a large old Tramontina chefs knife at home very hard plastic handle, no problem. Buy a very large Tramontina proffessional series 10-12" blade or so, great for lobsters and melons. They have very hard steel so a bitch to sharpen. The Sandvik steel in the Stainless Moras is very good and also used by Opinel. Svenskt stål biter /Swedish steel bites. (German surgical stainless steel, like Giesser uses, is good too and Victorinox steel also ) I use knives at work and my father was from Hälsingland...
I used to judge these because they were cheap, thinking they were junk, without trying one. Then I bought one (the light my fire) and fell in love with the brand. Man, was I wrong, these knives are spectacular in both price and performance.

the garberg, its full tang and just a flat out sexy beast with sandvik stainless steel. Also regarding new buyers fearing non full tang, its because most non full tang knives are crap. All morakniv knives are absolutely amazing.
I have a half dozen Mora knives, and my companion has batoned a truck load of wood in the past couple years, and keeps on batoning. I still can't believe it hasn't broken... Thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinion on this awesome blade from Mora knives, I appreciate it sir.

Gifted a classic companion to my dad as a fishing knife, he loves it. He’s the one who got me into my knife obsession
Full tang or rat tail, I bent the blade of my Companion (carbon, thin blade) to honest 45 degrees many times, and it sprung back to its original geometry without any damage. I am convinced that its blade is strong enough to withstand abuse. I find this flexibility is more useful than thicker blade, and it seems to cut better than the heavey duty version of the same. It seems to be the true multipurpose knife. I tend to prefer the thiner blade Companion to the heavy duty Companion.
Mora started Me collecting Knives and it is one of the most Hardy and good value knife makers ever, Well wort checking them out !
I have used the basic by Mora since my teens, back than we build sailing vessel. Getting a new one this father's day the yellow 2020 edition. I have the companion in my backpack tool pouch for building a fire or other tasks.

I have the Heavy Duty Companion and I love it. Its high carbon steel blade and it has served me well.
Can't go wrong with any Mora. Robust is my favorite, for the grip. If you need something cheaper, Hultafors is comparable.

Try an elestic ponny tail on the sheith over the pammel handle of the knife . Use a hair dtyer on the sheith to tighten up the grip around the knofe !

Excellent brand. Inexpensive, but with exceptional quality. That is rare. The way you are striking your ferro rod from handle to tip is not necessary. Paul Kirtley uses the spine near the tip of his knives to scrape off a small pile of shavings into a tinder bundle/bird's nest (or whatever), and ignite it. When I saw him perform that in one of his videos it changed my approach to using a ferro rod. If you scrape along the entire length of the rod you will, eventually, scallop that rod. I admit it works very well, and it looks awesome to throw showers of molten magnesium 3 or 4 feet away, but it is quite wasteful. Paul's approach is to kind of whittle off of the end of the rod - kind of like sharpening a short, stubby pencil. Like everything else, it takes a bit of practice to be consistently good at it, but it really extends the life of your ferro rod. Practice using it about 1/4 inch from the tip, to create a small pile of ferro shavings and to get the fire lit. I'm going to get the Bushcraft Black set-up you have with the diamond stone and ferro rod on my next purchase. Instead of wearing down/thinning the length of the rod, treat it just like sharpening a pencil with a knife. You will extend it's life greatly, and it will always fit snugly into it's holder on the sheath. I'd also safety it with some bank line or shock cord to the sheath like you mentioned, as it has a hole provided to secure it anyway. I just wanted to share these thoughts with you, and if it's all positive you can maybe include that approach in future videos and share with your bushcraft/camping/survivalist buddy's. I picked up the Companion a few days ago and will be buying more of these excellent knives. Nice video, man. Cheers.

I got the Mora 2000. got it with the Mora axe camp set. I love the set. and it's my first and only Mora as of right now.
The bush craft black and the garberg are the only moras that don't look 'cheap' to me...I feel like they're all great knives for beating around though

I use the Companion on construction sites and it forgives everything I do with it! Just awesome, how great it is, for this money...
They are great for fishing or hunting, the plastic handle and sheath is super useful because you can just wash it off, you can have a tank of a knife but you can't put it back in the leather/nylon/kydex because all sorts of bits will get stuck in it

They are useful knives that sharpen easily. I have a Normark version. Better quality. My every day carry fixed blade is a knife I made. All of my favorite knives are formed on my belt sander.
I bought my first mora knife today and I'm very impressed, it's a pro carbon but I can't remember what line it is, I couldn't figure out what that little shield shape thing with the paddles on was for and now I know, what do you think about forcing a patina

I have the Garberg, Kansbol and Robust (so far). I'm disappointed in the flex of the Kansbol's blade, but it's still very nice as a "kitchen" knife. When I camp, I use the Garberg, and keep the Robust as a backup.

When using the ferro rod, what, to your mind, is the best steel blade to use. Stainless or carbon?
I just got back from a 7 day camping trip where I made a lot of feather sticks, batonning and cutting - - all with my Fire Knife. I can tell you that for $25, you just won't find a better knife. It comes razor sharp, easy to sharpen and holds a sharp edge even after extensive use.
I think everyone should have one.

It’s funny how things have changed. Mora used to be cheap they still offer quality. But I don’t like how they raised prices to follow the bushcraft trend.
BPS knives are extremely good the adventurer is one of my absolute favorites. I love my Garberg but I had to do work on the edge to make it come close to the Adventurer.
Second the Hultafor OK4 $22 on Amazon. It blows the doors off the bushcarft black. In my opinion the sheath is better has a place for a ferro rod, or pencil if working. The steel is amazing and it has a 90 degree spine (something I never cared for).
So basically your getting a knife as thick as the robust with all the bushcarft stuff for the cheap price.
I like the best equipment at the best price. Not sure why this popped up on my feed but I enjoy supporting soldiers. Was one myself 11B1P Rangers lead the way

I have both,the strongarm will last your lifetime and more but it is not that good to use in the forest.The Mora companion in HD is better, I use it more.I have a few collection and I have the bushcraft black too but don't waste your money as the HD will do the job for the knife job.If you want to clear the forest you will need a machete 😀
I just got my Mora 2000 to go with my Light My Fire and my Companion. I got the 2000 in stainless the others are carbon steel.
All of them are razor sharp and I don't think I am through buying more of them.

Should I get stainless steel? I'm thinking about having a knife that can process both wood (and carve it) and meat
Mister Wallflower stainless works perfectly fine and I dont know if you want to process storebought or small game because I would Use stainless in this case thd stainless Steel ist actually good so if you dont want it for shaving I would defnitley recommend it
I use the stainless for fishing and hunting, the sheath and handle is great because you can just wash them off dry them and it's fine, a fancy knife with a leather sheath will be gummed up in no time
My favorite Mora is the new version of the High Q Robust. I really couldn't care less about a full tang. The only reason you need a full tang is for batoning, and there is never an excuse to baton with any knife. No excuse, and no need. It's a senseless thing to do, invented by a marketer, not a woodsman, and kept alive only by UA-cam incest.

I’ve always wondered what the fascination was with batonning. For fire making I’d rather save my blade, calories and time just picking up the right sized wood either off the ground or snapping the twigs off dead trees.

I think the prices have more to do with market then anything. The basic and the companion are marketed towards construction workers, which is why they’re so much less expensive. The bushcraft market is tiny and less price sensitive compared to the construction and trades industry

Super Galleta There is a serated bushcraft model. Ironically making it pretty useless as a bushcraft knife.

If you're moving to Europe with your knife collection you might want to consult the knife laws, which are very strict. Not at all like the US. In fact you might have a tough time at customs.

I don't understand how can it be 3 times more expensive if they are cutting them from one big metal sheet. It is not like they are using 3 times more metal. They would use probably 30% more.

Ebay's not bad but sometimes you get fakes or there's a problem getting what you asked for. It can be worth the gamble though.
