Thank you so much!!! Quick question - is it possible to record fiddle at home using USB Rode NT microphone? I want to record just a demo, so I don't expect studio sound, But is it possible to minimize noises from the strings, can compressor or resonant suppressor help in this situation?
I would have never thought to use several mics on one instrument to make it sound like multiple instruments. I always though different mics would still catch all of the same nuances, but it was spread out and panned. Some mics caught more of some frequencies, and adjusting the pan and level of each really added a lot of richness and a kind of chorusy effect. --Nice! Not something I'll soon forget. -Thank you.
I would recommend a VCA fader to control te general volumes of the violins instead routing it to a buss. I tend not to touch the buss faders (Jimmy Douglas advice)
Sounds like multiple takes of the same person, not an ensemble. There isn’t enough variation in the performances to really sound like different performers. If that’s what you’re going for, great. But it sounds artificial.
Finally. Someone explaining how to mic violins. Thank you. My test: soundcloud.com/alex-kunstmann/andreah-roa-quien-eres-tu-alex-kunstmann-disco-dub Though, I'd add one take and pan it over the opposite to simulate stereo pickup. Sounds much better.
Some major tuning issues going on. Also, should've been harmonized fora quartet/orchestral feel and sound. Mute 2 of those violin tracks and you're good to go.
I mean, he should have played better in the first place. Also, the tuning issues go away the more tracks you record, in my experience. I like to stand much further away, and then record around 15 tracks. The tuning discrepancies disappear.
I wasn't expecting violins to be put in that sort of song
Thank you so much!!!

You need a small condenser mic for violin!
