    Make your own cream of soup so you know what’s in it. Melt 2 tbs butter, add 2 tbs flour. Blend well into a paste. Add two cups of vegetable, beef, chicken broth or milk. Add your choice minced celery, mushrooms, broccoli. or 2 cups shredded cheese for Mac and cheese. Blend and melt. Add garlic, onion, salt, pepper, your spices. Pour over elbow macaroni for Mac and cheese. This recipe is 40 years old from a LaLeche League cookbook.We also love Weber’s Beer Can Chicken seasoning. Great for chicken, hamburger, scrambled eggs, Mac and cheese.

    Your sweet and sour meatballs reminded me of a recipe I learned about when I was first married. My husband’s best friend was Hawaiian. He taught us about “12345 Ribs”.
    Place 1.5 lbs pork country spare ribs in a crockpot.
    In a small bowl, mix the following:
    1Tbs sherry (dry)
    2Tbs soy sauce (or your sub)
    3Tbs white vinegar
    4Tbs sugar (or 6 pkts Sweet n Lo)
    5Tbs water.
    Pour over the ribs (I usually double the sauce).
    Cook on low 6-8 hrs. You can thicken the sauce with a cornstarch/cold water slurry if you’d like.

Something you may want to try, when using dried herbs, put them in the palm of your hand and then rub your hands together. Then add to the recipe. If you do not have a blender you can put cup of beans in a bowl and use a fork to smash beans then mix in smashed beans back in soup! Another way to smash beans to thicken soup you can take a wooden spoon and smash beans on the side of pot. I really enjoy your recipes! NELLIE

    My best Crock Pot recipe came from the original recipe pamphlet that came with our first Crock Pot. Hamburger Casserole does not use any "Cream of" soups. My family also refers to it as "clean out the refrigerator casserole", because I tend to make it when we have fresh vegetables that need to be used NOW. The casserole is comprised of sliced potatoes, sliced carrots, frozen peas, sliced onions, browned hamburger, minced garlic, sliced celery, condensed tomato soup and water. Layers of everything go on the Crock Pot in the order listed, salt and pepper each layer, with the soup and water mix poured over top. 6-8 hours on Low, and it's Dinner.

    I love your recipes and can't wait to try them out. I would ditch those plastic liners and also aluminum ones for the oven. It is not worth the health risks. Companies are trying to make money off products that are not good for our health, it does not matter that they are BPA free. Look up the effects it has on your body, it is scary. I am just trying to be helpful and would hate to see someone's family members have something wrong with them down the line because of using these marketed products. I look forward to more of your videos.

    Hey Amber! Thank you for these recipes I Am looking forward to trying some of these. In the potato soup recipe do you have a suggestion for a substitute for the butter? Butter is so pricey for us right now I Am looking for ways to continue to make good meals. Any suggestions are welcome💜.

    • @FeedingtheByrds
      @FeedingtheByrds  Рік тому +1

      Honestly, you might be able to go without it, or if you feel like it needs a touch of fat, maybe an olive or coconut oil. Just a touch.

      Butter (animal fat) substitutes;
      Schmaltz, also known as rendered chicken fat. Tallow, also known as rendered beef fat. Lard, also known as rendered pork fat. Or bacon fat, also known as rendered bacon fat, lol. Just use a bit less of any of these. Animal fats are good for you.

    • @FourJaysFour
      @FourJaysFour Рік тому

      We cook with bacon fat. Coconut oil is neutral in flavor, works really well in some dishes as a substitute. Might have to adjust quantity.

    Mrs Byrds, I agree, if cooking with any type of tomato's, do yourself a favor and add just a little bit of sugar. It will instantly cut the acidity.

    Your recipes would be great she could have them made up, wouldn’t take so long to figure what they’ll have to eat at any time. This all sounds so great, for anyone to use.Thanks God Bless ♥️🙏🏽🙏🏽

    This was a nice video for those of us who care about the unhealthy ingredients in canned soups. I’m trying to eat healthy as possible. I know it’s impossible to be completely additive or chemical free but I’m always amazed that no one ever comments on those crockpot liners. I don’t know what they are made of, but I’m sure chemicals are leaching into your food. It’s not that hard to wash a crockpot for your families long term health. I was happy to see you didn’t always use the liners. Thank you for your hard work in showing your recipes.

    I have a tip for when you burn your mouth on pizza, tea, soup, hot chocolate, or ravioli crockpot dinner. (I learned this trick back in 1980 after burning my tongue on hot tea.)
    Take a packet (if you’re out and about) or tablespoon of plain white sugar (not artificial sweeteners), pour it on your tongue, close your lips, and let it dissolve. That’s it. The pain will diminish by at least half, if not completely, almost immediately.
