Pro Music Producer Reacts - EXO ‘Cream Soda’ (Recording & MV) | Might Be My Last EXO Video...

- Hey everyone, it's ya boi. Today, I'm diving into EXO's recording behind the scenes of their song "Cream Soda" and reacting to the official music video. As a former music producer and industry professional, I bring my unique insights and expertise to this reaction. However, I also want to address a pressing issue-this might be my last EXO video due to wrongful copyright claims by SM Entertainment.
A few days ago, SM Entertainment claimed not only their original video content but also my original narration where I share personal stories and industry knowledge gained over years of working in the music business. I tried to at least have my narration portions excluded from their copyright claim, but I've been denied. I kept fighting it and now they are threatening my channel. This has made it challenging to continue creating content around EXO and other artists under SM Entertainment.
If this does get taken down and I get a channel strike, I’m gon release one last video (on SM Entertainment) on what happened with receipts. If my channel gets taken down, then I’ll find a way to get the story out there. If you wanna keep up, I'm thinking you could follow me on Instagram.

BAEKHYUN is the first member in this video. He is one of the three main vocalists of EXO. Although already a skilled and experienced vocalist, he still takes regular voice lessons to this day 'cause he says maintain his vocal stamina since he wants to continue singing for a very long time! He started his own entertainment agency, INB100, last year.
The second member is SUHO, the leader and lead vocalist of EXO.
The third is CHEN, another main vocalist. He is ranked among the best, if not the best vocalist in the whole K-Pop industry.
Next is XIUMIN, the eldest among the members. He is the ace of the group.
D.O. comes in next. He also has his own entertainment agency, SOOSOO Company. He is the third of the three main vocalists. He brough me to EXO. I got to know him first as an actor in his well-loved drama 100 DAYS MY PRINCE. He is my ult fave in the group although I love the other members just as much.
Next is KAI. He is the face, main dancer and center of EXO.
You already know CHANYEOL, one of the 2 main rappers of the group. He is an all-rounder, raps, sings, plays multiple musical instruments, produces and composes songs as well.
SEHUN is the last member in the video. He is the other rapper of EXO as well as main dancer. He is the maknae or younger member of the group after KAI.
I regret SM has given your channel a tough time, but I do hope that won't stop you from reacting to this mega-talented group. Maybe you could add some filter on the MV to get around SM's copywrite claims. Other reactor do that. Cheers and good luck!

I was gonna drop watching SM after some of the back n forth I had w them via the yt system. But I at least wanted to try one more time (this video) n see what happens. Experiment w different editing, even shorter clips taken from their video, etc etc
I'm sorry SM is picking on you. I love how you break down the recording sessions. I also love learning more through someone else's experiences (like why the guitar work blends in so well and the studio acoustic treatments). You make this so educational and fun. SM should be grateful for the free marketing. But they barely market their more established artists anyway. Cream Soda is the song that got me into kpop and not because of SM's marketing. It's so sophisticated and damn they can sing.
If you'd like, you might try EXO content from other sites? Maybe try their Dingo's Killing Voice appearance. If you don't do any more EXO content, it would be nice to know you're still enjoying them on your own. They have so much good stuff. Main tracks like Monster, Tempo, Let Me In, Obsession and their pre-debut What Is Love. But so many of their B-sides like Groove, Jekyll, Sweet Lies, Forever and Thunder are as good or better than the main. And you may already know they all have successful solo work, too.

Cream Soda is really a masterfully crafted song. Even their choice of studio (the 'live' recording booth) really shined in the final mix with the very natural reverb on the vocals. It was top to bottom pristine.
And I'm so glad you enjoy those parts! I try to keep it digestible, but I do worry I will bore ppl w some of the technical stuff that I find interesting lol. Like how one part of the song has a clean mix using 'spatial space' and the other part uses 'frequency space'. That really surprised me bc usually it is just ONE of those on a song. I gotta give props to their producer n engineer for that. I just feel they deserve credit too, and producer/engineer reactors I think show the hard work of the team beyond the artists.
I will check out Killing Voice, it sounds pretty awesome. I do tend to enjoy B-sides a looooot.
I'm learning that earning via yt is actually kind of lunch money (even for ppl that get 6 figure views) and most ppl who try to go full time yt use more than a few income streams to keep the lights on (like patreon). I'd honestly just be happy to be sustainable. so like just getting the money back that I'm spending on subscriptions to editing software, Canva, etc. I live in NYC so the only way to keep my lights on is robbing a bank every 2 weeks.

SM is the first enemy of EXO and its members. But I hope you don´t cease listening and knowing more about them, at least on your own. They are one of the few groups, if not the only one, that are worthy. I know that other groups have good singers and dancers, but EXO has 3 of the best singers in K-pop, 2 of the best dancers (Kai and Lay) in K-Pop/C-pop, and awesome actors (D.O. and Suho, although all of them can act) and 2 other members who are the perfect complement for the group. Individually they are strong, but when they are together they truly have superpowers, they become even more powerful. So we have the perfect combination of elements to make an EXTRAORDINARY ONE assemble. SM has forgotten all the value ($) they have achieved from EXO and is working against them and all the fandom (domestic and foreign) because SM does not promote them as they do with some artists from the same company. It´s not giving them a chance to do or work on what they really want or need, and that is why Baekhyun and D.O. created their own company (to promote their solo activities, and that is why Chen and Xiumin have already signed under BAekhyun´s company for their solo activities too. So, EXO and the members are not guilty of being in a dishonest and neglected company. Although SM is a big company known for being one of the first companies to make K-pop what it is today, as you can see, they have forgotten how to do global marketing.
that is such a shame. There are a lot of major labels in the USA that met their end by not remaining (or adjusting to become) more consumer and artist centric. I know that's a scary business model for major labels that put so much money into a project, but straying too far into "me first" mentality in such a people's business is literally long-term suicide. You'd have to be running a monopoly for it not to be a suicide.

8:26 The second member who joined (Suho) was filming a drama and performing in a musical as the main cast while recording the album. There are behind-the-scenes shots of him sleeping between takes on the set of the music video 'Cream Soda' because he was extremely tired.
Suho! that's his name. My bad for being so bad w names yo. He's very very very refined. He seems like a really strong artist to me (in general). So I'm not surprised. I love that grind in him.
When I first started tryna engineer in LA, they told me to accept that there will be times where I stay up 2-3 days straight to meet a deadline and to be prepared to sleep on the couch in between takes, etc. n they weren't got dam lying lmao

Owning ur masters n rights is so important to the game. But I know Corea still does it old school where the label owns as much as possible. And it made sense to me at first bc the labels r doing a lot compared to the American labels. But there are these pitfalls to that system n horror stories that I'm seeing.
I don't say this on the internet too much. But as much as I loved the time in my life when I was active in music, the music biz is the dirtiest business I ever knew. That includes modeling (being molested), black market pharmacy, etc.... the music biz is worse then all them.

Like you can't do much when your own managing label sabotages you,instead of promoting you in a bigger stage, SM has a record of abandoning their own group after a few years( because they had their peak) but for EXO, they never became less profitable yet they abandon them, still EXO as group and soloist were unbeatable, so SM then actively sabotage them🤦♀️EXO is basically only group at this age who doesn’t have Contents that are available for international fans.SM artists say, EXO's one song( Growl) built SM's new building ( which is huge btw),and recently it was whole thing where CBX sued SM for not paying them, After bringing Millions, Members do not get paid, Still EXO members are among the top richest artists of kpop( because for 13 years they did everything from singing to acting like non stop) .I just fall in love with EXO, otherwise Kpop industry is too cruel for me to support.( Poor men can't even date or get married without backlash and death threats 🤦♀️)

SM extensively trains their artists *in what SM wants them to be trained TO A POINT* After SM feels they've gotten their artists to a certain point in a particular skill they don't push as hard for more training. EXO members have all taken it upon themselves to find lessons in the fields they want to grow in. Chanyeol, himself, has a rap instructor~~~
Sehun, the youngest member, was trained enough to not be an embarrassment to SM's name, but back when EXO formed SM didn't really put a whole lot of attention into crafting great rappers; they just wanted them decent. Sehun also had this particular type of braces that gave him a bit of a lisp + he was still going through puberty. So, Sehun wasn't given a lot of parts = not a lot of chance to learn/grow.
Around the time SM *finally* started letting EXO members write lyrics & produce songs, Chanyeol started not only coaching Sehun through his raps but also crafted songs to help give Sehun more lines~~~
They even formed a subunit, EXO-SC, that lets them really show off their evolution and bond in music^.^

word. I noticed Sehun was the weakest in that session, but he still got the take he needed to get and all his boys embraced him and uplifted him. It's common to try to get the money take when the artist is having an off day and having to book more studio time to try again bc it just wasn't good enough for their purposes. But Sehun got it done that day, and you really can't ask more than that. And his boys obvi had a lot to do w that. Ima look for EXO SC stuff. I love that kind of ish.

Shame reallly because there woukd be no k-pop without SM Entertainment. SM started the fan culture as well. SM has always been known for 2 things , Vocals snd Visuals. The agency is still known as the hardest to get into. While newer groups aren't centered around vocals, SM still is.
Once you start listening to SM groups, most become fans because of their superior vocals.

I’m not a hundred percent certain but I think what we’re hearing is just from the audio from the camera and not the actual recording. So it’s more like their raw voice. I wish sm would not be so greedy cause we’d love to see you react to exo more! They did a B Side Medley in their fanmeet and you can get a taste of how amazing their discography is. Their Killing Voice video is amazing too. For some reason I also think you’d be shocked with their Obsession mv.

Hi! New subscriber to the channel, I've really enjoyed the reactions you've put up recently. I listen to a lot of SM artists (they've got some of the best vocalists in kpop imo!) and it's a shame what the company is doing, very short-sighted. I do hope you will do more SM reactions in the future, a lot of reactors put them up as Patreon exclusives, perhaps that's something you could consider as well as your channel grows.

So sorry for what happened to you. It's not you SM ent is punishing-it's EXO they are targeting. SM mistreats the group that made them the most $ and now some if not all of the EXO members are leaving SM-SM is making EXO's live so difficult. But we EXOLs will always follow EXO wherever they go.
I'm slowly learning what public/fan opinion on SM is. It's honestly a super curious situation. I heard there was even a power struggle in the leadership of SM. It's like a whole azz movie.

To minimize your copyright/strike try to avoid these following:
1. Lower the volume of the song, some videos perhaps may claim as copyright on it. You should check this out.

SM doesn't want EXO to get any exposure hence they have very strict copyrights on their contents. So that people are discouraged from covering them.

@@by9thplanet SM gains nothing out of this. They are just preventing the group from gaining anything anymore. The reason is they see their groups as a products with a shelve life. Given EXO is a 12 year old group with half of the members terminating their contracts with the company, they want to make sure EXO does not gain any popularity anymore and be forgotten. They also want to push their new groups in the limelight and killing their previous groups helps with killing competition and comparison and makes their new groups shine better.

You are right about exo rappers. They are so versatile just like their vocalists. In every album they bring some new rap techniques. They never take away the vibe of the song rather add so much to it. You should checkout their songs let me in, artificial love, sweet lies, playboy,obsession, lightsaber, electric kiss etc. they donot do just the usual aggressive style of rap. They are very creative.

It's really strange, I saw many UA-camrs react to EXO official and non official contents and are all OK. I'm not sure if this copyright rules are more strict in certain countries 🤔 One of the way to avoid copyright issue perhaps you may semi block the video, example blur it with bubble effect or put some words to semi block the video.

@@ForlifeNAyes, me too... one of the channel which I followed, they create a patreon site which consists of both paid and free contents. Those videos they wanna to upload in UA-cam and got block, they upload in their patreon site for free viewing, and of course there are also paid content.
I noticed that too. So I got a claim on:
1. Hear Me Out MV: I got this claim as I was first uploading it, and I agreed to it bc I wasn't monetized anyway.
2. Hear Me Out Recording: I was monetized at that point and I wanted this video to be my first video for earning bc I had soooo much fun watching EXO record. I posted it and I got no copyright issues at all. But 2-3 days later, I did. So it was a manual claim. Either SME has a department that manually claims/strikes or it was a disgruntled viewer, is my best guess.
And you have some great suggestions. I was tryna avoid that kind of editing, but i can honestly see how it can help you avoid headaches lmao. As long as the viewers don't mind, I don't mind experimenting with that editing as needed
