Even though Im a trained Egr, my first love is singing, and when I'm playing "Killing Me Softly" just with the guitar it attracts people like flies, even though my second love is the guitar.

On that day several decades ago, I was studying every day in preparation for the entrance exam. Listening to the radio day and night. I remember being deeply shocked when I first heard this song. There were some songs that impressed me before that, but I was surprised to find songs that were even better. Even now that I'm an adult, there are times when I listen intently. In a corner of Japan. ありがとうBS-TBS

On first listening to this song, I adored her singing the opening line unaccompanied. And before I go on to how the backing music came in and wrapped the tune around her, it's worth mentioning that 'strumming my pain' was never the intended beginning. It was Roberta who brought forward that part of the song. It was only after her original introduction to proceedings (with some 'whoo ooh' backing vocals) that she gets around to singing, 'I heard he sang a good song.' And that unhurried intro is what makes Roberta's version. No longer a folk song with guitar, a sublime classic with piano, and unbeatable vocals. The Fugees built on this too.

Yes. That intro. With the school effect that then moves her voice into the front and then the guitar and the back beat comes in: Perfection.

No mention of Ewan McColl (Kirsty's dad) who wrote the beautiful 'first time ever I saw yr face'. Watched a great documentary on Don McClean where Lori Leiberman tells us how she came to write 'killing me softly' after watching Don sing about5 a break up. Talented writers.

Lieberman has no songwriting credit on the song. The writers were Norman Gimbel and Charles Fox.

it doesn't start until after @ - interesting that Roberta Flack admits to hearing this song being played but can't remember who sang it (Lori) @ considering Roberta pegged her name to it … what an asshole. While Lori has the decency to remember Roberta's name and give her version credit along with Lauren Hill, Roberta Flack cannot do the same … I cannot be so gracious to Flack, and I don't think Hill even knew about Lori.

Exactly what I thought. When she said "by someone else" without mentioning Lori's name I was like WTF!

WHAT? That's the most powerful words I've ever seen written in public! I, also, remember my mother telling me the story was about Roberta writing the song because she heard Don MacLean singing. This is an atrocity. HOWEVER, WHAT IS SOMETHING TO BE DISCOVERED IS SOMETHING MORE IMPORTANT -- NOTICE HOW LORI LIEBERMAN NEVER MAKES ONE COMPLAINT ABOUT IT. SHE LOVES ROBERTA'S VERSION. NOW, THAT is the TRUE ZION. Whew!! Awesome!! Lady Gaga does the SAME THING! YES!! SHE NEVER COMPLAINED WHEN ALL HER MONEY WAS SIPHONED COMPLETELY, but instead a quiet "thank you", and very few probably didn't even notice. BUT I DID. And that's why I support Lady Gaga, no matter what. That's where we gotta go. Peace ❤

@@reneeking5494 Girl bye. Lori is the reason she even has one of the most hit records on her song list and can't be bothered to know who she is. That is just sad and she should be called out on it.

Talk about Divinity and Sacred Music heard for the first time, yet was Created many years in the far past: I have one great example: BARBRA STREISAND. One name. One song. One award (the first time a woman won that award) was the song EVERGREEN. That song was the 1st SONG EVER WRITTEN. Mind you, billions of years ago ... with only one proof. The Akashic Library that the Hadron Collider is just beginning to learn of its existence through their new studies with the "Phase New" Collider. Neutrino studies. DNA STRUCTURE OF THE DIAMOND. CARBON "0" (non-element) Element, one corner all by itself, holding the whole Universe accountable! THAT real number makes 0 + 1 = 1.2 ... . because the "0" SHOWED UP for the "1", therefore .. Pure Music. ❤
