When I first heard there was a game where you can dogfight Star Wars fighters in VR, the fan boy in me very nearly died of happiness! Then I found out that apart from the B-wing…there are *NO OTHER SHIPS BEING ADDED* They had the potential for something incredible in their laps and they squandered it. If they had atmospheric battles, classic battles (Endor, Death Star), ships from Episode 1-9, one off missions putting you in Slave1 or the Falcon… Then this could have been one of the greatest games ever made…but it’s just a simple flight sim
I wish tehy took a more adaptive choice for the sound. If you watch cinematics like theater movie features, you will not notice that sound makes or breaks the engagement. there's quite a bit poorly done with this game and its just enough to rub you the wrong way even though you can see the good in it and most players who like this franchise can cling onto.Sooo, Im just going to say that the sound really dropped the ball by not giving you a sound option to adjust cinematic sound mixing. I say this because they are either trying to give you a real emersion or a cinematic experience and you just cant do both. for a cinematic experience they could have just gave us third person view. What I'm saying is that you should be able to optimize the outside sound and the cockpit sound and that would have made a galaxy of a difference. I am emmensly disturbed by this fact that we hear everything so clearly with out even a muffling of the outer or distant sound. whether its real sound or not I want to hear my hud and power systems,,especially my engines,, over the everything else. I say this cause even in movies every sound is chosen and optimized for the the emersion or cinematic base of the story. Like if you watch the lighthouse or Hitchcock movie compared to a jj abrams or Michael bay. there is a difference of suspenseful motivational keys that happen in sound and you just cant have them both. Yes you can juggle the action but you cant juggle the sound temperatures without loosing one or the other. Just cant work effectively in the same chapter. I can only point out this after playing it since launch. I can say besides all the issues this is the one that really makes it an open sore wound. But I still play it at least a couple times a day.
I had a bit of a nostalgic bias going in. I really wanted it to be Star Wars Starfighter 3. I loved those games on PS2 as a kid. The two main elements that were missing in Squadrons were ship variety and a third-person view. Those two factors would’ve really improved it for me.
Is there really a story to tell? The developers of this game went out of their way to state, very explicitly to the public, that the game was a mid budget passion project that EA was willing to fund, but under the caveat that there was to be no post-launch content. No balancing, no DLC. The lead dev described it as launching "as a complete package" and described DLC support as doubtful. So we got a pretty standard old school game release at a $40 price point. Overall I think the game delivered exactly it was advertised as.
I got it months after for about £12 and honestly it was only really worth that. Story was bland, the dialogue all skippable and once it was over there was just no reason for me to return to it. It was basically all the star fighter assault content that should have been added to battlefront 2 if EA hadn’t ripped the developers away just wrapped up and packaged into its own separate pointless game

I honestly really love Squadrons, but I have not played it in a while because the only people playing the game are always ridiculously good to the point where I feel like I can’t do anything.
I’m pretty low level but even I don’t o too bad, is it just me? I remember I was once the only person in a squad of themed players, all wearing the same outfits and all talking together. I always have fun.
Love the game! I have have always been an aerial combat fan and this is the game for me. I’ve tried some Ace Combat games etc but they sucked. I’m 29 so the last aerial combat game I can think of that got me was Rogue Squadrons 2 and 3. I love this game because it’s 1 Star Wars, 2 pov and let’s me play online against even better players than me. Very fun
I feel a triple A Star Wars space battle game would be more fun... with Squadrons the lobbies were just to small for me, I would’ve loved a mode with even more ships, maybe even some bigger multi-person vessels as it would’ve stayed engaging for longer
Yeah I agree, I also think that the game had no accessibility, the very few lobbies I could find were filled with sweats and contained zero fun, there was no middle level multiplayer and it was very very annoying.
I wish they made a Star wars game where it was multiple phases per match where you capture planet systems in a form of tug of war and the battle takes place in space and on ground at the same time. You can have 1 teamate fighting thru halls of an enemy destroyer, while another mate is dogfighting in space, another is on ground fighting thru beautiful scenery, another mate flying in the air providing air support and flying back to space to help dogfight, another mate controlling a star destroyer turret. Just imagine flying in space and being able to fly down to the ground and fight.

I got in relatively early while there were still a lot of players learning the game mechanics. That made it a bit easier to get involved. But there are lots of channels with useful instructional videos, and some (such as Fencar) are still contributing meaningfully to the game To this day I still play Squadrons actively, even though I’ve had pauses (as every gamer does). Some comments here notwithstanding, I routinely get into game queues quickly, and the base that regularly plays the game is quite loyal and active. The game’s offline mode is a tutorial, and little more. Judging it on that basis is pointless. It’s an online multiplayer, and that’s all it is Having said that, the learning curve is now quite strict. There are pro-level players who routinely queue up in any given online mode, and if you’re not familiar with the technical aspects of managing power, outfitting ships, movement, etc, you’re going to be torched. It’s a bit like a fighting game, in that your skill requirements are high. But if you like dogfight sims and you like Star Wars, buckle up because your game has arrived

Honestly I love this game, played it for 3 months straight and then moved on, thinking about playing again since this video reminded me of it 😂 apex is just too good
And honestly that’s not bad. People feel like games have to last years on end but for $40 I got like a month and half of fun and then moved on. That’s quality
To me the game is still one of the best VR experiences. I really loved the campaign, which is far too short. Lots of great StarWars campaigns. In general the ww2 fighter feeling was simply geniously. The multiplayer gave me a lot of adrenaline rushes, because of the ultra fast tactical combat in fleet battles. A lot of fun in a good team! But you are right it, it kinda wears off. Especially without VR.
For a £40 game I was pretty impressed by the AAA level graphics and quality of gameplay and the campaign was far better then BF2 but your right it just got stale very quickly
Playing multiplayer in VR gave you the upperhand in just about everything, making you feel like Poe Dameron (ep. 7) scoring 15+ kills in dogfights was where the fun began.
And thats the issue with most games nowadays. VR takes the lead by combining the things that make both computers and consoles good and yeets them up a notch. It will not be long until VR gamers will take the leaderboard in basically anything
This game is an actual flight simulator. You have to have actual pilot skills to play it. That’s what makes it hard to get into. Me… I took the flight as a personal challenge but when folks from legend and above come into my lobbies I realize I ain’t got no flight time.
Almost everyone has played a shooter, so getting into Battlefront isn't that difficult and attracting a large gamer base is easier. Everyone doesn't know how to fly, let alone fight for their lives in true 3 dimensional movement with double the button inputs.
I've got to say, I was bored with this game and had no desire to finish the campaign till I got a Oculus Quest 2 and played it in VR, it almost instantly became my favorite game I owned.

I bought the game the day it released and knocked over the campaign in a short time. I wasn't disappointed but I think there could have been room for improvements. Such as what you mentioned, Clone Wars era ships and possibly storyline.
I actually LOVED Star Wars: Squadrons. I was SO happy that it was for free on PlayStation Plus, but, yeah, I wish the game’s servers were somewhat playable. I couldn’t get a match when I tried to play it to level up and get some Mandalorian content.
A matter of taste. I find this easily the best SW game in years and far from boring. The missions are great. You don't play a game like this for cutscenes and the tedious stuff that happens outside of the space combat. The combat is great. I've already played through all the missions twice. It's more of a niche market I suppose. Would still hope for a sequel. But Chorus is good too.
Star Wars Squadrons was a lot of fun, highly underrated, I enjoyed the single player campaign, the graphics were amazing, I feel it came right about the same time as New Generation consoles were coming out as a result many people overlooked it, still I would recommend it to any Star Wars fan 👏
I love smaller games like these and hope more are released! they are love letters to the fans of said genre and would love one for RTS fans would love to see a empire at war type game.
I know just from the fact EA called it a niche double a game with no post content support & the devs saying it was just a passion project not anything long term. (it was even half price)
Same for me when I predicted that Evolve wouldn't last long....or how boring No Mans Sky would atleast at first be.... Ppl who are blinded by hype/fanboyism dont want to see the things objectively....or even afterwards the most hardcore fans think everyone else is wrong and that there is nothing wrong with their beloved game
I got this game for Christmas last year and started playing in January. I’m a completionist so I was going for the platinum on PS4. I finished the campaign and jumped int MP for about a month before the game went to PS plus. I had gotten good enough to own all the new players and finished MP up, then went back and finished campaign on ace. It seemed like all the new pa plus players were moving on though, not sure how the servers are now, but I really enjoyed the game during my time with it. I appreciated the video Ozzy!
I remember pre-ordering this one, I was really excited. After the release I played it a couple of times and then forgot about it, not because of its quality (which is great) but because of me being more into CoD during the pandemic. Recently, with the release of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, my love for Star Wars has revived immensely, so I’ve been revisiting my Star Wars games (including this one). So far I’ve been practicing against AI, but I hope I can find some good matches once I catch up.
And I was excited for it. I even planned on buying it but I never did because it lost interest in me fast. They not allowing landing in hangers and going into fps definitely turned me off. Oh yes and no clone wars

I bought this game at launch and LOVED it. Finished the game withing a matter of days. The campaign is literally your warmup. The game itself was meant as an online multiplayer. Once I went to play online is where I decided to not play anymore. Being as i didn't have PSVR at the time, that was what my problem was since the game is meant to be played in VR. The VR headset was a game changer. Having an actual squadron that communicates is also EXTREMELY helpful. If you played this game without a VR headset, try it again with VR and you will have seen the difference immediately.
Squadrons to me just felt like it should be the starfighter mode for battlefront 3 Just add in the landing feature from the old battlefront 2 and bump the player numbers in a match (5v5 was too small for the atmosphere they want)
That's really something ea is not understanding the main group of gamers looking to buy Star Wars games are people who grew up with the prequels and there not doing a lot for them with all these galactic empire themed games
Just got it myself and can't wait to give it a go!! I used to spend hours playing Jedi Starfighter on the PS2 and Starfighter. Jedi Starfighter was my favorite between the 2. Even played other flight Sims like Rogue Squadron, Star Fox
And thats why there are awards. Out of 10 - 4 are just taking up space, 3 do most of the work, 2 innovate and are consummate professionals and 1 is a master.
I still enjoy this game, in fact it's my favorite one. I never really liked Battefront because it was not my kind of game and I got bored of that game after a few hours.
I wish they would add more missions or challenges like attacking the Death Star I & II or Starkiller Base. Would have been cool to fly on Hoth against AT-ATs. Man, at least have a level editor so people can create their own multiplayer maps or challenges. After I finished the campaign, I replayed it in VR which was an entirely different experience. Game has a lot of potential.
As unlikely as it is to happen, I'd love a proper AAA sequel to the game. It has some real potential for pushing the flight sim genre in the Star Wars universe. Imagine planet-side battles, piloting atmospheric vehicles like speeders, walkers, LAATs, or even Pod Racers. How awesome would it be to drive a speeder-bike in VR?? I don't think there's much chance of it happening, but then again, I said the same thing about the Snyder Cut.
For me, there were two things that turned me off. One, the fact that they said there wouldn’t be any updates after launch (even tho they still decided to do a few, including the fighters which was a nice touch). This isn’t a criticism, more so just a personal preference. There’s nothing wrong with deciding to ship a game at launch and leaving it at that, but I personally just enjoy longer life span games that get updates. I think the nail in the coffin for me was the lack of Clone Wars. If this game had Clone Wars, I would’ve bought it even if there were no updates after launch. But there wasn’t clone wars so my interest just went downhill. This game is still beautiful though, just wish it came out at a time when battlefront 2 wasn’t just cancelled.
I really like Star Wars Squadrons 🙂. It took me a while to get used to the controls but once you adjust and customize it , it feels amazing and fun 🙂. Its a blast to fly a X-Wing or Tie Fighter and so on and i love blasting enemy ships🙂
I’m personally a huge fan of squadrons, my only true gripe with it is the lack of balancing. I just wish they did more with it. I think they should do a relaunch and use what they have to make a much bigger, better game. It’s an amazing concept that they unfortunately just dropped, kinda akin to what happened with theHunter: Primal.
It’s a great game for what it is. It’s an online multiplayer flight sim. For that, they nailed it. But otherwise, it does get repetitive. The campaign is just a long tutorial and the multiplayer is fun but it’s pretty much the same thing over and over so it gets old fast. They nailed the starship experience but the overall content was just too limited to stay interesting for a long time. Worth the $40 I paid
As an "old person" (40+) it blows my mind that a game this good gets swept under the rug because players were upset that it wasn't another game. Too much of a good thing or something
Won't play anything or watch anything starwars this day and age, it's literally not the story I fell in love with as a child all those years ago. I LOVE MY PREQUELS and I'll always love the memories of starwars but those stories are far gone..
We can only hope in 10 years Lucasfilm games employee's who loved this game decide to make a Clone Wars version of this game with hero ships, the ability to drop troops off on planets, whatever your imagination can think of, etc in VR. Just combine this game with Battlefront II, call it something new, and have a crazy multiplayer and ship flying hybrid VR war game. Let's fly around on Mygeeto, Cato Nemoidia, Scarif, Death Star, and finally Coruscant. This game is fantastic just for the fact that you can simply sit in the cockpit of some of your favorite ships, plus walk around the hangers in VR. Try just sitting in the cockpit, relax, eat some Doritos. Feels amazing. IT DOES NOT WEAR OFF.
I played squadrons for a straight month when it came out and it is a good game. The graphics look amazing, the controls feel great, the customisation is good. The problem I had with the game is that they just left it after they released it. IMO it’s a great game there’s just nothing to keep me playing. If they started adding content and actually seemed to care for the game I’d play it more
They drop the ball with this game. They could have had content from all movies as DLC missions. Imagine playing the Death Star battle or the Battle of Endor or Hoth. So many missed opportunities.
talking about the games EA has made for star wars makes me realize that EA basically wasted their exclusivity rights to star wars they only made 5 games (Battlefront, Battlefront 2, Jedi Fallen Order, Squadrons, and The Old Republic)
The game itself isn't bad and wasn't to alot of people your missing the whole point of the problem with this game IT HAD NO CONTENT and barely expanded but besides that loads of fans loved it and would love to play it still if the developers actually treated it like a game not just a mini project
The reason why this game was forgotten by A majority of star wars gamers is because it was a star-fighter only game. I would say the majority of players that play star wars based games look for ground based combat. The battlefront series had the perfect combination of space/air and ground combat and the flying was simplified enough for noobs(like me) to understand and make a decent effort at fighting in Starfighters.
This game was an amazing experience for me. Played it all the time and was lucky enough to have an amazing team and win the first open Dog Fight tournament in November fueled my passion. In December my team disbanded due to issued in the game that killed it for us. Continued on another team but it never was the same. But a freaking amazing game. Miss it a lot but got to fly with some awesome ppl :)
I love this game! I don't care if no one else plays it, as I never play online. See, I remember when video games were something you played alone, and I still prefer that. :)
I mean, I still play it. I just go into the training mode and stare into oblivion, but hey - the view is really amazing. And the game is solid stuff all things considered when I’m bored at staring into the galaxy
I would have played the game much more, but setting up VR and getting into functioning lobbies with friends was so buggy that it didn't work most of the time. When it did work, I had the most fun with a video game in many years. Imho, VR is what makes the game worth playing. Without VR, the game is less than mediocre and doesn't compete with X-Wing Alliance, which is over 20 years old now.
I wasn’t sure about this one when it came out, I fell in love with it though. I still play ai fleet battles from tome to time. In fact I’ve actually never played online yet
If you ask me, what Star Wars needs is a dragon age-like game. Give us different races, without a paywall, gives us planets to explore, let us choose what kind of character we want to be. Just let us experience Star Wars without any of the controversies or negativity it's received.
If your bored of the game I suggest finding a discord to find online friends to play with. I had financial struggles during the end of 2020, so I couldn’t really afford new games. The story mode of this game is basically a giant tutorial to get the player used to playing. This is E-Sport quality content honestly. More variety would be nice, but this is easily one my top five online-multiplayer games.
There was a contingent of us that are dedicated space sim/flight sim players, and veterans of the old LucasArts Xwing and TIE fighter titles. The incredibly broken joystick/HOTAS support and unbalanced TIE bomber in the first couple months after launch basically turned my whole community off of Squadrons.
Based on the gameplay footage that you're sharing... You have not put enough time into the game to fully understand it's depth. There is a much deeper progression of skill in this game that you've not yet experienced - it's not ace combat or star fox. Master your power management while performing complex maneuvers, fully exploit the high risk/reward style of the empires ships, find the best approach angles to attack shield generators while flying under the star destroyers shield bubble, use your boost to pull off Sukhoi SU-25 style thrust vectoring maneuvers, and get on discord and work as a team to divide and conquer before passing judgement. This is all before discussing the progression with different loadouts with very high risk/reward ratios - such as weapons which require more precise aim. In your gameplay footage I'm hardly seeing any overcharge in any of your systems, not even your boost bar. You're shooting at the power system while the shields are still up, with no overcharge and you don't even hold your fire until under the shield bubble. The only thing you are right about is that the player base is very small. You're wrong about why. It's a very niche game but its got a lot to offer to the right player who wants to explore. If you're thinking of picking this up, give it a real chance and get on discord and talk to some more experienced players.
this is one of the best VR games ever also. Just flying around is so damn fun, let alone dogfights. awesome game. sad there wasnt more content tho, it´s the perfect base for an even greater game, but sadly lacking a few more gamemodes imo
I disagree about the campaign. The story wasn't great but the missions were excellent. The game DEFINITELY needed more game modes for online. I really enjoyed it but got a bit bored of the fleet battles in the end. Fantastic game mode but i would have liked some other options. I think in the end, this is a good game and met its brief as well as it could. Its a shame it came out after BF2 was killed off.
this game was really for vr its amazing in vr with a h.o.t.a.s. and index and i still play it . but i can see how it can get old playing it flat i tried it flat and it was silly to me after playing it in vr .
There’s no reason the game should’ve died out this early on, this was one of the greatest games ever, I assure you it’s gonna come back once someone starts making videos on them
I bought PSVR because of this game. Then a hotas flight stick. Long story short I fly missions for the empire a few times during the week after work, this game is amazing for any pilot/star wars fan.
Honestly I can't say I have the most experience with this game since I did not have vr, did not have friends to play with, and got my ass kicked every game by pros. But I am going to have to disagree with you on the campaign. It was immersive and epic even if the characters were bad. The multiplayer though was not so good. Dogfights were filled with tryhards and capital ship fights were good but it left me wanting something bigger. I know it was released as not a triple A title but I kind of wished it was. It would have been cool to add more game modes or have game modes with more players.
I honestly didn't even know this game existed until someone mentioned it in a UA-cam comment - I wish platform exclusivity wasn't a thing, Origin did this game absolutely no favours.
I still think this could be a banger again if they gave us Clone Wars content and at least 2 more game modes. I thought it was super fun, there just wasnt enough variety.
After what Motive did for BF2. I didn't have faith in this. But Squadrons was actually kinda fun so I was surprised. The multi-player tho, the story was weak imo. But to my surprise. The game wasn't broken on release. They did promise to support the game but idk if they actually did since I only played a month

Yeah I agree, I also think that the game had no accessibility, the very few lobbies I could find were filled with sweats and contained zero fun, there was no middle level multiplayer and it was very very annoying.
I wish they made a Star wars game where it was multiple phases per match where you capture planet systems in a form of tug of war and the battle takes place in space and on ground at the same time. You can have 1 teamate fighting thru halls of an enemy destroyer, while another mate is dogfighting in space, another is on ground fighting thru beautiful scenery, another mate flying in the air providing air support and flying back to space to help dogfight, another mate controlling a star destroyer turret. Just imagine flying in space and being able to fly down to the ground and fight.

This was my issue with it as well. It was so small and empty and the few players I faced were waaaay too good to have fun playing against.
I got in relatively early while there were still a lot of players learning the game mechanics. That made it a bit easier to get involved. But there are lots of channels with useful instructional videos, and some (such as Fencar) are still contributing meaningfully to the game
To this day I still play Squadrons actively, even though I’ve had pauses (as every gamer does).
Some comments here notwithstanding, I routinely get into game queues quickly, and the base that regularly plays the game is quite loyal and active.
The game’s offline mode is a tutorial, and little more. Judging it on that basis is pointless. It’s an online multiplayer, and that’s all it is
Having said that, the learning curve is now quite strict. There are pro-level players who routinely queue up in any given online mode, and if you’re not familiar with the technical aspects of managing power, outfitting ships, movement, etc, you’re going to be torched.
It’s a bit like a fighting game, in that your skill requirements are high.
But if you like dogfight sims and you like Star Wars, buckle up because your game has arrived

To me the game is still one of the best VR experiences. I really loved the campaign, which is far too short. Lots of great StarWars campaigns. In general the ww2 fighter feeling was simply geniously.
The multiplayer gave me a lot of adrenaline rushes, because of the ultra fast tactical combat in fleet battles. A lot of fun in a good team!

For a £40 game I was pretty impressed by the AAA level graphics and quality of gameplay and the campaign was far better then BF2 but your right it just got stale very quickly
Playing multiplayer in VR gave you the upperhand in just about everything, making you feel like Poe Dameron (ep. 7) scoring 15+ kills in dogfights was where the fun began.
And thats the issue with most games nowadays. VR takes the lead by combining the things that make both computers and consoles good and yeets them up a notch. It will not be long until VR gamers will take the leaderboard in basically anything

This game is an actual flight simulator. You have to have actual pilot skills to play it.

Me… I took the flight as a personal challenge but when folks from legend and above come into my lobbies I realize I ain’t got no flight time.
Almost everyone has played a shooter, so getting into Battlefront isn't that difficult and attracting a large gamer base is easier. Everyone doesn't know how to fly, let alone fight for their lives in true 3 dimensional movement with double the button inputs.

I've got to say, I was bored with this game and had no desire to finish the campaign till I got a Oculus Quest 2 and played it in VR, it almost instantly became my favorite game I owned.
Even with a clunky PS VR set the experience is quite something.

I bought the game the day it released and knocked over the campaign in a short time. I wasn't disappointed but I think there could have been room for improvements. Such as what you mentioned, Clone Wars era ships and possibly storyline.

I actually LOVED Star Wars: Squadrons. I was SO happy that it was for free on PlayStation Plus, but, yeah, I wish the game’s servers were somewhat playable. I couldn’t get a match when I tried to play it to level up and get some Mandalorian content.

A matter of taste. I find this easily the best SW game in years and far from boring. The missions are great. You don't play a game like this for cutscenes and the tedious stuff that happens outside of the space combat. The combat is great. I've already played through all the missions twice. It's more of a niche market I suppose.
Would still hope for a sequel. But Chorus is good too.
Star Wars Squadrons was a lot of fun, highly underrated, I enjoyed the single player campaign, the graphics were amazing, I feel it came right about the same time as New Generation consoles were coming out as a result many people overlooked it, still I would recommend it to any Star Wars fan 👏
I love smaller games like these and hope more are released! they are love letters to the fans of said genre and would love one for RTS fans would love to see a empire at war type game.
I never played Squadrons and I actually thought the game was way older than one year because it was over/dead so quickly.

I got this game for Christmas last year and started playing in January. I’m a completionist so I was going for the platinum on PS4. I finished the campaign and jumped int MP for about a month before the game went to PS plus. I had gotten good enough to own all the new players and finished MP up, then went back and finished campaign on ace. It seemed like all the new pa plus players were moving on though, not sure how the servers are now, but I really enjoyed the game during my time with it. I appreciated the video Ozzy!

I remember pre-ordering this one, I was really excited. After the release I played it a couple of times and then forgot about it, not because of its quality (which is great) but because of me being more into CoD during the pandemic.
Recently, with the release of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, my love for Star Wars has revived immensely, so I’ve been revisiting my Star Wars games (including this one). So far I’ve been practicing against AI, but I hope I can find some good matches once I catch up.
This was EA fixing the sluggish air combat from the 1st two Battlefront games.

I bought this game at launch and LOVED it. Finished the game withing a matter of days. The campaign is literally your warmup. The game itself was meant as an online multiplayer. Once I went to play online is where I decided to not play anymore. Being as i didn't have PSVR at the time, that was what my problem was since the game is meant to be played in VR. The VR headset was a game changer. Having an actual squadron that communicates is also EXTREMELY helpful. If you played this game without a VR headset, try it again with VR and you will have seen the difference immediately.
Squadrons to me just felt like it should be the starfighter mode for battlefront 3
Just add in the landing feature from the old battlefront 2 and bump the player numbers in a match (5v5 was too small for the atmosphere they want)
That's really something ea is not understanding the main group of gamers looking to buy Star Wars games are people who grew up with the prequels and there not doing a lot for them with all these galactic empire themed games

I still enjoy this game, in fact it's my favorite one. I never really liked Battefront because it was not my kind of game and I got bored of that game after a few hours.
I wish they would add more missions or challenges like attacking the Death Star I & II or Starkiller Base. Would have been cool to fly on Hoth against AT-ATs. Man, at least have a level editor so people can create their own multiplayer maps or challenges. After I finished the campaign, I replayed it in VR which was an entirely different experience. Game has a lot of potential.
As unlikely as it is to happen, I'd love a proper AAA sequel to the game. It has some real potential for pushing the flight sim genre in the Star Wars universe. Imagine planet-side battles, piloting atmospheric vehicles like speeders, walkers, LAATs, or even Pod Racers. How awesome would it be to drive a speeder-bike in VR?? I don't think there's much chance of it happening, but then again, I said the same thing about the Snyder Cut.
For me, there were two things that turned me off.
One, the fact that they said there wouldn’t be any updates after launch (even tho they still decided to do a few, including the fighters which was a nice touch). This isn’t a criticism, more so just a personal preference. There’s nothing wrong with deciding to ship a game at launch and leaving it at that, but I personally just enjoy longer life span games that get updates.
I think the nail in the coffin for me was the lack of Clone Wars. If this game had Clone Wars, I would’ve bought it even if there were no updates after launch. But there wasn’t clone wars so my interest just went downhill.
This game is still beautiful though, just wish it came out at a time when battlefront 2 wasn’t just cancelled.
I really like Star Wars Squadrons 🙂. It took me a while to get used to the controls but once you adjust and customize it , it feels amazing and fun 🙂. Its a blast to fly a X-Wing or Tie Fighter and so on and i love blasting enemy ships🙂

I’m personally a huge fan of squadrons, my only true gripe with it is the lack of balancing. I just wish they did more with it. I think they should do a relaunch and use what they have to make a much bigger, better game. It’s an amazing concept that they unfortunately just dropped, kinda akin to what happened with theHunter: Primal.
It’s a great game for what it is. It’s an online multiplayer flight sim. For that, they nailed it. But otherwise, it does get repetitive. The campaign is just a long tutorial and the multiplayer is fun but it’s pretty much the same thing over and over so it gets old fast. They nailed the starship experience but the overall content was just too limited to stay interesting for a long time. Worth the $40 I paid

We can only hope in 10 years Lucasfilm games employee's who loved this game decide to make a Clone Wars version of this game with hero ships, the ability to drop troops off on planets, whatever your imagination can think of, etc in VR. Just combine this game with Battlefront II, call it something new, and have a crazy multiplayer and ship flying hybrid VR war game. Let's fly around on Mygeeto, Cato Nemoidia, Scarif, Death Star, and finally Coruscant.
This game is fantastic just for the fact that you can simply sit in the cockpit of some of your favorite ships, plus walk around the hangers in VR. Try just sitting in the cockpit, relax, eat some Doritos. Feels amazing. IT DOES NOT WEAR OFF.

I played squadrons for a straight month when it came out and it is a good game. The graphics look amazing, the controls feel great, the customisation is good. The problem I had with the game is that they just left it after they released it. IMO it’s a great game there’s just nothing to keep me playing. If they started adding content and actually seemed to care for the game I’d play it more

They drop the ball with this game. They could have had content from all movies as DLC missions. Imagine playing the Death Star battle or the Battle of Endor or Hoth. So many missed opportunities.

talking about the games EA has made for star wars makes me realize that EA basically wasted their exclusivity rights to star wars they only made 5 games (Battlefront, Battlefront 2, Jedi Fallen Order, Squadrons, and The Old Republic)

The game itself isn't bad and wasn't to alot of people your missing the whole point of the problem with this game IT HAD NO CONTENT and barely expanded but besides that loads of fans loved it and would love to play it still if the developers actually treated it like a game not just a mini project
The reason why this game was forgotten by A majority of star wars gamers is because it was a star-fighter only game. I would say the majority of players that play star wars based games look for ground based combat. The battlefront series had the perfect combination of space/air and ground combat and the flying was simplified enough for noobs(like me) to understand and make a decent effort at fighting in Starfighters.
This game was an amazing experience for me. Played it all the time and was lucky enough to have an amazing team and win the first open Dog Fight tournament in November fueled my passion. In December my team disbanded due to issued in the game that killed it for us.
Continued on another team but it never was the same. But a freaking amazing game. Miss it a lot but got to fly with some awesome ppl :)
I love this game! I don't care if no one else plays it, as I never play online. See, I remember when video games were something you played alone, and I still prefer that. :)
A perfect example of how a well-executed and polished gameplay loop rapidly becomes boring if it's too simple.
I mean, I still play it. I just go into the training mode and stare into oblivion, but hey - the view is really amazing. And the game is solid stuff all things considered when I’m bored at staring into the galaxy
I just love flying really close to the capital ships and flying fast I really love this game.
I would have played the game much more, but setting up VR and getting into functioning lobbies with friends was so buggy that it didn't work most of the time. When it did work, I had the most fun with a video game in many years. Imho, VR is what makes the game worth playing. Without VR, the game is less than mediocre and doesn't compete with X-Wing Alliance, which is over 20 years old now.
I wasn’t sure about this one when it came out, I fell in love with it though. I still play ai fleet battles from tome to time. In fact I’ve actually never played online yet
If you ask me, what Star Wars needs is a dragon age-like game.
Give us different races, without a paywall, gives us planets to explore, let us choose what kind of character we want to be. Just let us experience Star Wars without any of the controversies or negativity it's received.
If your bored of the game I suggest finding a discord to find online friends to play with. I had financial struggles during the end of 2020, so I couldn’t really afford new games. The story mode of this game is basically a giant tutorial to get the player used to playing. This is E-Sport quality content honestly. More variety would be nice, but this is easily one my top five online-multiplayer games.
There was a contingent of us that are dedicated space sim/flight sim players, and veterans of the old LucasArts Xwing and TIE fighter titles. The incredibly broken joystick/HOTAS support and unbalanced TIE bomber in the first couple months after launch basically turned my whole community off of Squadrons.
Based on the gameplay footage that you're sharing... You have not put enough time into the game to fully understand it's depth. There is a much deeper progression of skill in this game that you've not yet experienced - it's not ace combat or star fox. Master your power management while performing complex maneuvers, fully exploit the high risk/reward style of the empires ships, find the best approach angles to attack shield generators while flying under the star destroyers shield bubble, use your boost to pull off Sukhoi SU-25 style thrust vectoring maneuvers, and get on discord and work as a team to divide and conquer before passing judgement.
This is all before discussing the progression with different loadouts with very high risk/reward ratios - such as weapons which require more precise aim.
In your gameplay footage I'm hardly seeing any overcharge in any of your systems, not even your boost bar. You're shooting at the power system while the shields are still up, with no overcharge and you don't even hold your fire until under the shield bubble.
The only thing you are right about is that the player base is very small. You're wrong about why. It's a very niche game but its got a lot to offer to the right player who wants to explore. If you're thinking of picking this up, give it a real chance and get on discord and talk to some more experienced players.
this is one of the best VR games ever also. Just flying around is so damn fun, let alone dogfights. awesome game. sad there wasnt more content tho, it´s the perfect base for an even greater game, but sadly lacking a few more gamemodes imo
I disagree about the campaign. The story wasn't great but the missions were excellent.
The game DEFINITELY needed more game modes for online. I really enjoyed it but got a bit bored of the fleet battles in the end. Fantastic game mode but i would have liked some other options.
I think in the end, this is a good game and met its brief as well as it could. Its a shame it came out after BF2 was killed off.

I bought PSVR because of this game. Then a hotas flight stick. Long story short I fly missions for the empire a few times during the week after work, this game is amazing for any pilot/star wars fan.
Honestly I can't say I have the most experience with this game since I did not have vr, did not have friends to play with, and got my ass kicked every game by pros. But I am going to have to disagree with you on the campaign. It was immersive and epic even if the characters were bad. The multiplayer though was not so good. Dogfights were filled with tryhards and capital ship fights were good but it left me wanting something bigger. I know it was released as not a triple A title but I kind of wished it was. It would have been cool to add more game modes or have game modes with more players.
For 10,- for the physical version the single player is very worth it. A lot of fun.
