- Woohoo! Here I am installing my aftermarket JVC KW-M845BW head-unit that I acquired from Crutchfield.com.
I purchased this product with my own money. I have no affiliation with Crutchfield or JVC in any way, shape or form.

Finally I see someone like me in these videos I watch. Great job!
Currently in the market for a new vehicle and I'm down to an Audi Q5, VW Tiguan, or this beauty.
Nice to see a Black woman working on her own vehicle! Queen tings! ✨
Alanna Janae The current generation of CX-5 is soo nice!
Yesss. The 2016 is calling meee.
Awesome video! Do your steering audio controls still work? What aftermarket radio did you end up using?
Love this. Looking to do the same job in my CX-5!
Thanks for the video! I have a '16 CX-5 and am looking for a replacement unit (my OEM one got smashed in and doesn't display anything anymore). The audio and everything still works I just can't see where I'm navigating too. My concern is that I'm afraid of losing functions like how to reset the service light after doing oil changes, rotating tires, etc.. Have you had this issue with the aftermarket radio you installed? Does the service light still come on? or is that something that ONLY turns on/activates with the OEM infotainment system? Also, I assume with these aftermarket radios you also lose the audio functions on the steering wheel, right?
Nice work. I'm planning a similar install.
Amazing video. So just to be sure you use the Axxess harness for the backup camera ?If yes, ss your backup camera works ? Also everything still works fine ? I read / watched other people comments they're having problems with the backup camera function after the install. Thank you in advance.
chad W yes, that is correct! The backup camera works fine. The differences from the oem radio are; the view radius of the camera is slightly wider (I can see the top of my license plate now), the quality is not as good (just slightly, quality still is good overall), and it takes about a second or two longer to display the video when the car is put in reverse. Hopefully this answers your question! 🙂
This is magnificent thank you Kris!
So I have 2 other connections that I don't know what they're for? I have the Bose system package. Could they have something to do with that?
hi, i have a question, can you install a 10.01 inch screen with the same metra that you used
Update: I have had this unit installed since October 2018 and everything works fine the problem I am having with it is it will randomly turn off then turn back on while I’m driving. It’s only happened 3 times so far when multiple devices are connected and Spotify and google maps are being used. I guess it short circuits when over worked. Idk
I'm getting a Kenwood DMX709s installed in the coming week. I've been researching Kenwood (JVC has merged? with Kenwood) HUs and that seems to be somewhat normal on some units. Great video.
Nice video, Did you lose the Aux input with this radio?
moises223 yes, the vehicles aux input is not functional. Any device connected has to be via Bluetooth or connected directly into the unit.
I didn’t realize it was a chick installing the radio until I seen her pry the automatic thing and pulled the center console out heheh never knew that’s how you open it. I need to purchase those tools just in case I need to do something like that.
Did this disable your usb connection in the armrest?
What about the Sat Nav and reversing camera?
Hi, nice video. I just have a couple of questions:
1. I see you have a mic right where the gauges are. The factory mic is lost with the upgrade?
2. If you already had the factory camera, how come you needed to tap that red wire? Isn’t there a factory cable on the back for that?
Thanks in advance!!
David Palma
Hello friend, to answer your questions, yes the factory mic is disabled once this unit is installed. According to the tech support guy I talked to, the red wire taps into the reverse light wire to send power to the factory camera while also causing it to turn on when shifting into reverse. I’m not sure why but the rear camera wire on the unit that connects to the factory camera doesn’t send power to the camera.
Women do get it done, very helpful thanks
De cuantas pulgadas ves tu nuevo estereo
are all the 9 speakers working
so do you loose reverse camera screen and the specific car/mazda setting when you install an aftermarket deck?
Radek Woj Hello, I can still use the rearview camera but I had to purchase additional wire to connect the unit to the backup light wires to power the camera after installing the headunit. This also activates the camera when the car in put in reverse.
Any car specific settings needed to be set before removing the OEM headunit. (Eg. door lock settings, auto off highlight duration time) Unfortunately, if I ever wanted to adjust these things I would have to replace the aftermarket unit with OEM unit temporarily. Hope this helps.
@@NBnKB2525 Yeah this is great, makes sense. I don't know if I'm willing to part with those functions. I managed to upgrade the tweeters in the dash of the car and it really made a huge difference. If you don't have speakers there, the wiring is all there for you just plug in and away you go. I got Kenwood KFC835C 3.5" speakers and what a difference. There is also a middle panel in the dash but no wiring for a speaker is there unless you have the bose premium audio which I do not. I thought I was going to have to replace all the speakers but turns out I just needed those tweeters. My only complaint about the head unit is how slow it is, and how slow it reads USB especially if you plugin like 8gb or 16gb drive. It also starts playback all over again after you turn it off for a while ... quite annoying.
Radek Woj interesting, I may attempt to add tweeters also! I noticed the empty location where they go when install this unit.
Did that red wire come with the radio?? & how did you get the red wire to reach all the way in the back??
No, I had to purchase the wire separately. It’s was a total of 25 ft. I tied one end of the wire to the end of a x-large zip tie and weaved it from the radio, behind the steering wheel, down passed the interior fuse box and tucked it under the lower plastic trim along the driver and backseat doorways. Then I used a detailer tool to detach a small area of the plastic interior of the trunk, and used the x-large zip tie to push the wire behind it the until it reached the taillight connectors.
What Year is this one?
Unrelated question but how long did you have the car, how many miles and what problems did you have thus far?
Radek Woj I purchased this vehicle June 2017 and it currently has about 86,500 miles. I haven’t had any major problems so far. I’ve had just to replace the battery and do other regular maintenance.
@@NBnKB2525 Good to know mine is a 2014, got it in Oct 2018 and has about 109,500 miles. It's the 2.0L, 6speed manual. Had to replace the PCV valve because was burning oil. Then soon after the left strut mount went, within a month the other side went. After that I had to replace 2 of the door handles, they seemed to fail (not sure if previous owner did something that they failed). I also replaced one of the axels due to noise but it didn't solve it. There is currently a few different drive train noises I hear when its cold out and the brakes are noisy too. The battery I think will need to be changed soon, looks original and yeah its pretty weak at times. I also changed the front swaybar linkages but old ones seemed fine. Also topped off the transmission fluid, it was low. All small things but a bit annoying.
@@radekw708 That's alot of issues my 14 has 116k Miles and really nothing wrong. Sounds like you got a Monday vehicle.
@@dexterm1285 A year later and another $1600 of work went into it just a few months ago including seized rear callipers (so replaced the whole rear brakes). Both axels in the front were noisy and leaking so were replaced, along with the front control arms which had to be replaced as the ball joints and the control arms was one piece with the OEM variant. I still have the rust on the roof left, the rear engine mount is blown and the other strut bearing went as well. I'm also at 116k. Apart from the roof rust I should be able to get it back to 100% working order soon.
@@dexterm1285 I also had issues with the security key icon popping up on the dash which was reported by the blue driver as a security fault. This was as recent as this summer... seems to come and go. You may have not noticed problems, but I am a car whisperer and I'm sure I can find plenty of things to fix on yours :)
did u have to run that red wire to the back of the car ?
yes, tapping into the reverse light wire sends power to the camera and activates it when I shift into reverse.
do you have a link for where you got the red wire?

what year is this car?
Hello there! 2015
Good video but that cable management 😭 I work in IT so it made me cringe sorry lol
Does your car have Bose?
No
@@NBnKB2525 where did you find the reverse light
@@lestatybarbo6545 There are two removable panels on the inside of the lift-gate. I used the one on the left. Once removed you will have access to all the vehicle tail lights.
Do you need to use the resistor?
