No matter what wax you use, the key is proper PREP. Deep Clean/Strip Washing, decontamination, and machine polishing, then a prep wipe will ensure the best adhesive to the paint. As you said, another key is weekly washing, especially for daily drives. If you have a car you seldom drive and have a minimum budget, I like using TW Seal 'N Shine & and Ice Spray Wax. In the States, very low cost. Thank you Jon for your videos.

Ceramic has to be the best for a long term protection model, but if you want something simple but effective, I just don't think you can beat Fusso Coat.

@@Darren_Nicola You could spend hours looking on the net for a definitive answer.
But simply. Waxing a car creates a huge amount of static build up!
Why, if the rubber tyres are grounded right! So why does the static not dissipate?
Plus you are probably wearing rubber soled shoes.
I have even heard of guys sticking a metal pole in the ground and running a cable with a clamp to the exhaust. Sounds fn crazy right!
But there is so much confusion around this subject.
Check for yourself and you will find loads of threads on this phenomenon.

    Great topic, Jon!
I tend to gravitate towards waxes and sealants for my personal vehicle , and those in my family. The exception is the better half. Her car had been ceramic coated.
Through the years I've enjoyed Zymol Creame, Carbon, Titanium, Glaser, and Concours. Going back to the late 90's it was Meguiar's M20 Polymer Sealant, M26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax paste, Deep Crystal Carnauba Wax, Gold Class Carnauba Plus paste wax. Blue Coral Ultra Fine Auto Polish, and Turtle Wax Vision.
When I got back into detailing around 2008 I was using Turtle Wax Ice Paste, then Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax, M26, and M21. Then I got into the Duragloss line, and really found something seriously durable there.
Today I'm mostly using the Optimum range. GPS (cleaner wax) Car Wax, Opti-Seal, Hyper Seal, and Gloss Coat.
In the summer I use Optimum Car Wax on my and my mom's car. Gf's Jeep Sahara has Gloss Coat on it, and PPF on the front clip topped with Gloss Coat.
What I love about the Optimum range is the maintenance. I can use ONR, Opti Clean and Instant Detailer and Gloss Enhancer to keep them clean and shiny. I'm not too emotional about water behavior, not as much as I used to be anyways. I had to jump through hoops to keep those Zymol beads around, seems similar to Tha amount of hoops people jump through to maintain beads on their ceramic coatings, which to me negates the advantages of the ceramics. What I like about Gloss Coat is that I can wash it and let it roll. I do find that I still have to clay periodically on the roof of the Jeep, but that coating has been holding up beautifully. As I type this at 4 am eastern standard time here in Metro Detroit, Michigan I have just finished topping off with a traditional foam applicator installation of Hyper Seal on the Jeep. I'm going to see of a yearly application of this product will extend the life of the Gloss Coat.
I already did mine, my mom's, and my neighbor's two vehicles in Opti-Seal. I want to see how it does over the winter. The part of my trunk had had Opti-Seal on it since late May 2022, and here we are at the very end of October and it's still there and looking just fine. Great gloss and water repellency. I'll be topping off moms car with Car Wax before the weather hits though. I'm going to strip everything I've put on my car - except the section that already has Opti-Seal on it - and apply a coat of Opti-Seal.
I did a customer car two weeks ago, a black 2017 Tesla Model X. Polish + Seal. I polished it with 3D ONE and protected with Opti-Seal and Car Wax. This weekend I had an Audi S5. I polished it with Meguiar's Ultimate Polish and protected with Jescar Ultra Lock Plus. The Ultra Lock is a very, very nice sealant! Not fun to apply, but the wipe off was incredibly slick, and the gloss was intense. The owner and his wife wer were stunned. Very complimentary to the work done. I can't take the credit for the fine job done by the Ultimate Polish / Ultra Lock Plus combo!

Food for thought, my partners dad has a gorgeous 1969 Buick that he's in two minds about respraying it as the liqueur is thin due to years of polishing. The paint has gone light and patchy (if you really really look for it) and he's a bit old school and would take too much conveniencing to get it ceramic coated. So, my thoughts are with Soft 99 fuso hybrid wax. He's used to applying wax so hopefully this might do. I hope it has some fillers and adds a darkening effect as that is really what its needs, I think more cutting of the lacquer would introduce sleepless nights for him....I'll Google it in a sec to see if it does add those benefits. A cracking little video thats really got me thinking about products. 15:42 Carpro Essence adds a very little cut but adds gloss and Si02 base for a coating, Essence plus is different, its designed to go over the top of a ceramic to polish a micron layer to remove love marks from contact washing without damaging the coating (not supposed to use abrasives on ceramics) I think that's what you're think of Jon.

Fusso is pretty crazy. I'd say that as of now it's about as far as a paste wax can be pushed and still be a paste wax. If you're getting a year out of it (lots and lots of people actually do) then it's pretty freaking impressive for a traditionally applied wax from a can.
The only thing I tell people to keep in mind is that as tech advances and we get better and better stuff, it's best to err on the side of caution and wear PPE. Fusso has PTFE which can be dangerous if mishandled so it's one to be a little more careful with I suppose.

Agreed about Fusso. It contains fluorocarbons which is extremely hazardous to both humans and the environment. It is a "forever chemical." The "other" wax industry - ski wax is or already has phased them out. Most if not all international ski race federations have now banned them. Please find and use alternative products. Last weekend I tried it on a friend's truck, and it was leaving deposits that wouldn't wipe away. This has happened at times, every time I've used it since 2013. This weekend I had an Audi S5, and using the same pad/ polisher/polish and it worked beautifully. Left an incredibly gloss finish.
Things that helped were really shaking up the bottle. This makes sure all the abrasives and lubricants are well mixed. Nine out of ten times this solves my issues.
I also make sure not to use too much product. I start with four small drops and reload with two on a 5.5" pad.
I can usually notice when it starts to leave a deposit as I'm polishing. The deposit sits under the buffed liquid and is unaffected by a normal pass of the pad. If I sit on that section for a moment or two, the deposit will be worked away and the section easily wipes off.
Meguiar's Ultimate Polish is historically my most used polishing liquid since I switched to a random orbital Porter Cable in 2013. Today I mostly use 3D ONE, but I still enjoy the performance and user experience of Meguiar's Ultimate. I also use Optimum's spray abrasives.

so im just getting into detailing, have purchased some products as featured in your videos. I am just wanting some confirmation on the steps. as in do i pre wash/shampoo/clay bar decon/polish/ wax. after this how often to a carry out this process, looking at doing this every 2 weeks, with this is mind is the polish/wax needed every 2 weeks ?
also have some ag magma/clean wheels for the alloy wheels. The products i have are ag polar series ( balast/wash/seal) chemical guys honeydrew/watermelon, waxplanet 8 below snow foam, ag srp,ag ultra HD wax and 2 ceramic sprays - ag rapid cermaic spray/maguirs hybrid ceramic wax.
i know that the ceramics spray are not needed if i use the ag srp/ag ultra hd wax, kind of brought alot of products before discovering your wealth of knowledge, youtube channel. I also have the ag polar blaster and 2 mjjc canon pros for use with different products. car is a 21 plate astra(kept outisde on drive way), silver as offical colour but looks more like light blue. also have a k7 with the stubby gun you featured from in2detailing along with the yellow 16x16 plush edgeless cloths (10)
the srp will be applied with an applicator then buffed( until i can order the da8 polisher from in2detailing) and same with the ag ultra HD wax. I am sorry if i have went on alot as i wanted to tell you the products i have to give you more of an insight what im working with and able to best advise. keep up the fantastic work john and many thanks in advance

The full list twice a year is enough (going into winter, going into summer). Then do your pre-wash&shampoo weekly/fortnightly. If you use AG SRP+UHD wax, maybe stick with AG foam and wash first until it runs out. I wouldn’t bother with the Polar Seal until your UHD wax is fading. Swapping to another pre-wash foam isn’t going to harm, nor is a new shampoo - when the AG runs out just use your other stuff.

@@davidfigg Hi David. If they're piano black B-pillars then a the AG Serum Reson Polish will bring them up lovely if they're just faded. Wash the car or clean the pillars in preparation, and in the absence of a DA just apply a pea-sized blob of polish to a MF towel and work the product into the pillars in small 2p sized circles until the product is shining up a little. Then wipe over with clean section of MF. Assess the results and repeat if necessary. Note: tape up your rubber window trim in local area as polish can stain rubber. Use the same technique to get rid of finger nail/jewellery scratches from under door handles.

I have a question that I'm hoping you can answer please 😁 If I use the Autoglym Ceramic Coating and layer it by washing with Turtle Wax Ceramic Wash and Wax & Wet Wax as a drying aid. I also go through the car once a month after washing with Meguiars Ceramic Detailer. Will this extend the life of the base Autoglym Ceramic Coating to more than the one year claimed? If I keep layering, will base ceramic coating be extended indefinitely? My car is garage kept by the way. Thank you and awesome videos as always 😁

Anyone or jon can recommend a detail spray that won’t mess with the hydrophobics of a ceramic coating ?
I will be applying ceramic coating after polishing my car but don’t want to mess with the coating by adding other stuff on top, just want something to help dry the car a bit safer

I think the forms of protection you use are heavily influenced by 1. the fact you run a detailing channel and are always testing products and 2. you can garage cars up which makes a difference as you say. I agree we all have different requirements/needs/interests/time available etc. A ceramic coating makes sense for me but waxing your car every month will make sense for others….
