I use that same Brinley for overseeding as well as new lawn prep and it does a great job in scarifying the soil for receiving the seed and results are very good with proper watering/fertilizing. The thin growth spots are a conundrum as to why they occur but I scratch up/reseed those areas later on and eventually all is well. Keep the original grass cut short so as not to shade the upcoming grass from the sun. Congrats on the 1K subscriber milestone.
If you want to maintain that large lawn you should probably overseed with microclover. The microclover sits below the “grass canopy” and makes the lawn look super dark. It also feeds the grass nitrogen because clover pulls nitrogen from the air and feeds the soil
@@BreakFreeHomestead I'm in the process of getting my nerve up to smoking all 6 acres off and starting over! Just not sure what to plant here in rural Indiana.
@@ohdirtracer Wow, 6 acres? What don't you like about it? I heard it's pretty hearty. I like hearty grasses, which is why I have turf type tall fescue on my lawn. It needs way less water than a lot of these grasses that go brown the moment it goes two weeks with no water!
@@dontbanmebrodontbanme5403 When we first bought the home, 3.5 acres in front of the house was rented to a local farmer and I wanted grass there so taking the advice of an older local gentleman, he suggested k31 Blue from TSC. Fast forward, when it did come up (easy to grow) it had a lime green look, nothing like the grass around the home so it was odd to say the least and here is where it went wrong. I ended up over seeding (k31) around the home and now it's just a blotchy mess and looks horrible. If I had known better, I would have used Turf type tall fescue, so here's to starting over 😁
@@ohdirtracer With the amount of land you have, it will definitely be work. I only have an acre and nuked 1/3rd of it and started over last August and that was a HUGE CHORE for me. I knew I wanted to top dress my seeds with peat moss and doing that by hand on 1/3rd of an acre would have simply been impossible, so I was lucky enough to get my hands on an Ecolawn 250 for a weekend. They're over $6K to buy and almost impossible to find anywhere to rent. I'm considering buying the Ecolawn 50, which is "only" $3K, but it's hard justifying spending that much money on something you might use twice a year. But in your case, I'd say it's pretty much essential. No way you'd be able to top dress compost or peat moss on 6.5 acres by hand.
We're using the same k31 seeds, but mine is a so much lighter than yours. I leveled with store bought topsoil. I'm wondering if the topsoil did something to change the color of my grass. What do you think?
Hmm, it could be the amount of water, or soil conditions. You should google soil testing in your area, sometimes local colleges will test it for a reasonable price.
@@BreakFreeHomestead You needed to prepare your lawn better. 1. Kill everything with glyphosate (twice to make sure you kill everything) 2. dethatch 3. Set your lawnmower blade at the lowest setting and pick up all the dead hay from step #1. And take a bath after to get all the dust off of you!! 4. Aerate 5. Topsoil 6. Seed + fertilizer + tenacity 7. Peat moss on top of that 8. Water at least twice a day, preferably three times a day 9. A month in, add more tenacity to keep the weeds at bay I did this to my lawn last fall after watching Ryan Knorr's videos and now all of my neighbors are complimenting me on my lawn, something I never ever got before!

Yeah it's not a bad piece!! Yup! We'll have to get more down next season until it's completely filled in. Patience right?
Thank you so much!! 🤙

I just planted that seed on my lawn that got hammered over the summer. I see that you are excited about it, do you have any videos on the progress?
I used k31 on the entire lawn 9 years ago and absolutely hate the look of it!
Oh no! its a bunch of work to remove! I would have liked to do turf type also but just couldn't stretch it at the time😌

Okay thanks.
Is this the same music that Ryan Knorr uses?
Sounds like it! Only if my lawn looked like that 😂
