As a professional electronics and audio tech with some 44 years experience, may I make two suggestions? One, never use tape as insulation. Always use heat shrink tubing instead. Safer, more permanent, more professional, and better looking. Two, bring line level inputs to the outside of the cabinet, so you can connect audio directly to the amp. Bluetooth is wholly incapable of true high-fidelity audio, so if you want to hear what your speakers really sound like (and those Tang-Band drivers are REALLY good), you need line inputs. Otherwise, nice job!
Dope! Great job. I like the aesthetic of the curvy chamber behind the driver for breaking up the rear wave reflection. Also I like how you moved the speaker around to actually demonstrate that the frequency response isn't faked. And I got to say, pretty impressive frequency response.
Rather than sanding the outside, which with MDF is an exercise in futility, try coating the outside with body filler such as Bondo and then sanding that. This way you can get it as smooth as you want and it is prepped for paint.
@@JJ_ExMachina Yes, that's true. But MDF doesn't finish well, it's hard to keep precise tolerances with it because it flakes at every cut edge, and if it ever gets damp, it's all over but the crying. It's just a matter of what you want.
@@ScottGrammer ... Very true, but if treated properly (aka sealed under varnish, veneer, or other water resistant coatings, it will withstand a fair amount of moisture. I hate most of these DIY speakers videos. Made in a way that looks like there were only 2 rules - be as fast to build as possible and make noise at the end. Some at least "look" like there were some "sound mathematics" used but then without any info in the video which/why - aka looks like someone just found instructions on the net and decided to make video about it. Half of them made of scrap, half of them not sealed in any way, nearly all powered by "chinisium-grade" electronics - crapiests dc-dc converters, bt modules, amps. No proper tests really made at the end. Some include "rainbow-puke" RGB disco-lights. Wouldn't be surprised if most of those speakers are disassembled for parts for next videos. And worst in all of that is that when I thumb-down and mark as "not interested" in recommended part of the site these videos, it sometimes makes youtube reduce the number of "good" videos too.
Esta bien hecho el trabajo,,, la estetica es hermosa,,, la pregunta es si así el sonido es profundo, claro, si los bajos son buenos y las medias frecuencias son buenas y armoniosas....buen video...
True but I think it’s the density of the MDF that gives it the resonance kind of like the type of wood used in a strata verious which is why they make cheap speakers out of partical board
@@shanebethune9032 While I understand what you are getting at, that is the exact opposite of what you want when engineering a quality speaker. In an acoustic instrument like a violin or a guitar, The resonance is an integral part of the design. It reinforces and amplifies the sound of the strings while giving it character. A perfectly designed speaker would be completely inert. You do not want a speakers cabinet to color the sound at all, which is why high quality speakers are extremely dense, heavy, internally braced, and filled with fiberfill to dampen any internal standing waves. The purpose of any speaker is to perfectly replicate the RECORDED audio, and inducing resonant sound from a speakers enclosure is antithetical to that design goal. MDF is actually a very good material for those design goals as it is both dense and inert, however with how small that speaker is compared to with how thick the wood is, switching to a Baltic birch would have near zero impact to the speaker acoustically, but have a dramatic improvement on aesthetics. Cheers.
I like the fasteners for the batteries, very unusual and lamp-like, but actually impractical, because batteries are for portable equipment and you are unlikely to carry such heavy acoustics with you. But overall, not bad, for the sake of wow effect, well done.👍
Sorry but too big for the result... You must put an active filter or a DSP to maximise bass and for lower mids! Do the same with bigger full range... 5" is the minimal. My first 2.1 is from 1995 (3 liters total). With linear amplifiers. Hot in temperatures for a little speaker!!! Welcome class D! But never for high frequences... I build now hybrid 3 way amplifiers. hay nhưng chưa hoàn thiện lắm. mình góp ý thôi nhé. mica để âm xuống mặt mdf, mdf nên sơn, mica nên dùng loại đen bóng nhìn sẽ sang hơn loại trong. chỗ mica và gỗ phải có lót cao su non. thêm chút đèn nữa là đẹp rồi, sp như trên video chỉ để chơi thì hay thôi chứ chưa thực sự đẹp, thêm 1 chút công nữa là ngon rồi
Vỏ loa dày vậy làm như bt nó cũng đã rất trầm rồi, t ko hiểu về loa lắm, ko biết kiểu này b làm theo công thức, nguyên lý nào hay là tự chế, vì t nghĩ đường đi cộng hưởng xa vậy liệu âm trầm có bị delay ko, với lại nên sơn lại phần trong chứ đừng để nguyên bề mặt gỗ thô vậy, bề mặt ko nhẵn âm thanh di chuyển va đập bề mặt thô cũng làm âm bị rè đi
Beautiful work can I suggest one thing try to brush the glue that way you don’t have all that work Cleaning up Get yourself a flatBrush they come like six in a pack at dollar store Besides that beautiful work
Very nice... this is more or less how Bose home speakers produce such full sound out of small speakers... They do use a bit of EQ trickery to get a good balance out of their speakers.

Unless maybe using Bluetooth module that Support LDAC codec
He should have use passive radiators instead of this conception to increase the bass, i have the feeling that the bass is totally absent

Bondo mixed with fiberglass resin works really well for this.
That's an excellent idea. An even better idea would be to make it out of wood. 😃

Looks awesome mate, good job! But could you show some measurements on the driver.
Great build! I’m surprised you didn’t place the volume control of the amplifier to the outside.
Probably just have it set to max volume and use the phone to control the volume
I would unsolder the pot and mount it in the plexi...
DIY Speaker:
Step 1: Have a CNC workbench...

Lol I hate how almost everything today labelled as "DIY" involves either a CNC or a 3d printer. Kinda pointless.

To get a better solder joint onto the nickel strips, you can roughen the nickel strip's surface with sandpaper before pre tinning with solder.
I would add to that, not to solder where heat can transfer to the cells as this can easily damage them, spot weld on a longer tab, and solder to this.
@@kiwiskiz Exactly, for this reason it would be much easier and better to solder the wire to nickel strips first and then weld them on to the cells.
Sounds really good. Reach 70-75herts hundred percent. Really cool !

Very nice project would it have been possible to adjust your c&c machine to allow you to put some sort of veneer finish on the bare mdf
МАСТЕР!!!Руки золотые!
your next project should be for the new Dayton Audio Epique E150HE-44, bet you could make one hell of a box for that little monster.
I'm planning on making one with the new epique 5.25 . Need a bigger amp than this though

Excellent video, but how can I get the plans or the file for the cnc?
Stunning workmanship
Magnifique, bravo.
If you use a downcut bit instead of the uncut in this video you’ll get much cleaner cuts.

Bass is non-directional so you’re better off using a dual voice coil with single woofer in one enclosure.

Do you make and sell these? I’d buy one nice work.

This is late, but to aid in alignment you can cut alignment holes for dowels. It cuts down on the sliding out of position during glue up.
Also, Drok makes some great 3-4" drivers
