Personally, I've been 100% off grid for 10 years. Basically, the energy costs are higher than grid supplied in most locations. In Thailand, where I'm located, it's around double the cost, with grid supply being around US $ 0.17 per kWh. The change to Lifepo4 batteries was a significant improvement over lead acid, especially now that the prices have come down to that of lead acid, with significant improvements in terms of performance.
