  • In this full-frame vs aps-c battle I'm trying to find the sweet spot when it comes to value for a UA-cam camera. And since I have both the Sony zv-e1 AND the Sony zv-e10 I thought it would be fun to put 'em side-by-side to see if the full-frame big brother is actually better when it comes to making UA-cam videos.
    I pair the full frame zv-e1 with the Sony 24mm f1.4 G-Master lens, what I think is the best UA-cam lens for talking head shots... with the zv-e10, I have the Sigma 16mm f1.4 which is has been a crowd favorite for years because of it's affordable yet fantastic quality.
    The full frame setup costs over $5,000 Canadian, yowch! Where the smaller aps-c setup comes in at around $1600.
    Will the full frame steal the show or will the more affordable cropped sensor camera surprise you with it's quality/value ratio? Let's find out right now!
    I think both of these cameras are among the best for creating UA-cam videos. If you are interested in any of the gear for yourself I will share affiliate links down below:
    Sony ZV-E1 - amzn.to/3RBhzXV

    Sony ZV-E10 - amzn.to/3z8Gfk0
    Sigma 16mm f1.4 - amzn.to/4cbrJa1

    Thanks for justifying my ZV-10! I do want the ZV-1 but just cannot justify it at the moment. From what I understand, and I could be wrong, but from my research about a year or so ago, the ZV-1 shines as a mobile Vlog setup. The automatic settings do awesome walking from light to low light scenarios and keeping a solid and fast focus while in motion. I think the ZV-10 is great for a starting channel though and also does some excellent photography. A bit more complicated in the settings though especially for a beginner. Thanks for the excellent comparison video. :)

      Glad you enjoyed it! While you are correct that it would be a MUCH better camera for vlogging you would have to make sure you get the right lens for it (maybe the 20mm Sony?) because FF lenses are quite a bit heavier. I've vlogged with this and, while the quality is good, the experience is not great in my opinion. I mean heck, that was why I bought the DJI Osmo Pocket 3, because I didn't like vlogging with this. But then I got that camera and realized I just didn't really like vlogging at all 😆

    Another note, when the video started off, I actually preferred the #2 footage! But once you moved indoors the #1 footage edged it out, especially in the low light bedroom, #2 had a lot more noise. I’m viewing on a 75” 4K television though 😆

      @thesahdstudio  7 днів тому +2

      Right?! Yeah I just watched it on my 75" 4K TV too and had similar thoughts... some scenes were more about personal preference rather than quality. But by the end of the video I think it was clear which was the more robust camera. The price difference though....

    Interesting, #2 looked better outside to me while #1 looked better inside. I think you'd still be a bit more future proofed with the ZV-E1, the sensor is just so much better and as you said, the tech and extras in it are much better.

      I know, the zv-e10 surprised me a bit too. This is the 3rd Sigma 16mm I've had for crop sensor cameras. It's just so good for the price. It's not as satisfying to use as a G-Master lens of course... and I'm in my 40's now so feel a little entitled to the better quality lol. But jeez, it's hard not to recommend the cheaper lens/camera, even in 2024.

    1min in and 1# is definitely ZV-E1 and 2# is ZV-E10, it comes down to dynamic range and boca it’s pretty apparent but it’s all depends on lighting and other filming scenarios

      Hehe nice! I was wondering how fast it would become obvious. I tried to throw some fake outs in there but I think you're right about the dynamic range really making the footage stand out. But without the side-by-side I think the zv-e10 would be absolutely good enough.

    You just can’t beat that object/background separation of full frame, but other than the low light shot, the e10 held up well enough!

      @thesahdstudio  7 днів тому +2

      Right?! I agree. And I was impressed more than I thought I'd be after seeing the footage side-by-side. At first when I brought s-log 2 from the zv-e10 into Resolve it didn't look quite as good, but, I was able to tweak the footage more than I expected and it just got there. The value is fantastic. It's the Honda Civic of cameras 🤣

    I have both and I think the zv-e1 is better it gives more options and is better for future-proofing.

      That's my take away too... but with that being said, it costs a LOT more.
      What lens are you rocking on yours?

  • @RyanKorea
    @RyanKorea 6 днів тому +1

    There's no point downgrading if you don't need to. That said, if you switched from the ZVE1 to the ZVE10 and didn't tell anyone, nobody would notice.

    • @thesahdstudio
      @thesahdstudio  6 днів тому +1

      That's exactly how I feel. I'm comfy with my workflow... and I can use the camera while being in front of it quickly. I mean I still deal with overheating here and there but that just goes with 4k30+ frame rates at this price point of camera.

      I know right, they are both just great. Mine's just collecting dust and I'd rather sell it while it's worth more instead of keeping it because I like it. Tough call!

    As a camera nerd I could see that #2 was a crop body because of the DOF. Then when you did your bedroom I could really tell based on the noise and dynamic range. Keep the full frame the color is better and you can use all the best lenses.

    • @thesahdstudio
      @thesahdstudio  7 днів тому +1

      Right? I was switching pretty quick without really focusing on the background too much, but like you said, if you look you can tell. Yeah I love the full frame. The aps-c IS convenient though with it's size and price. Fortunately I'm a bit beyond that though.

    Honestly, it’s UA-cam compression that makes it even more difficult to tell. Short answer… it’s the type of glass that you strap on the front.

    • @thesahdstudio
      @thesahdstudio  6 днів тому +2

      Right? I DO agree the lens is probably the most important part of the combo... I'd rather have a sick piece of glass and shoot in 1080p than a 4k camera with a kit lens.

    panasonic lumix s5 iix or the upcoming Panasonic LUMIX GH7 are really good. Zero overheating issues

    • @thesahdstudio
      @thesahdstudio  6 днів тому +1

      Yeah that's an interesting suggestion. To be honest, since I'm a bit of a newb, the fact Panasonic's not being full-frame has always scared me off a bit. But as I'm learning it doesn't reallllly matter. Maybe a bit. But also the resale seems a little tougher. It's like buying a Hyundai vs a Honda you know? It's always easy to sell Sony stuff but maybe it'd be a little tougher getting top dollar for the used Panny?

    • @shaunod6745
      @shaunod6745 6 днів тому +1

      @thesahdstudio the s5iix is a full frame sensor. The GH7 isn't, but it's the first camera to be able to record in 32bit float audio internally when you use the xlr mount. The beauty of 32bit float audio is that you dont have to set the audio levels. both have fan cooling too, so they don't overheat

      @thesahdstudio rental or look at returns policy. In the UK for example, online purchases have a 14-day window when it comes to returns so long as it's not damaged. Which would be cheaper than rental 🤔

    Ok I guessed it by a hair of a difference.
    ZV-E1 is a special camera indeed. In the super low light, did you push it to 12800 iso(second native)? It really cleans things up.

    • @thesahdstudio
      @thesahdstudio  7 днів тому +2

      Great question! But no, I left the ISO at the lowest setting (original native?)... I did so on both of them. I'm sure it really could have blown the E10 out of the water had I done that but I was in a bit of a rush and honestly didn't think to do so. I don't always do the most comprehensive tests but I still think it's enough to get the jyst of what these cameras are capable of. The E10 actually did better than I expected to. If it had more of the features of it's big brother I would consider keeping it but it just feels like it's has yesterday's tech whereas the E1 still feels up-to-date.
