Nice job on the cabinet! From that group of reels, I would like to see videos on any reels that might be unique in some way. Also, I look forward to hearing that 'story'.
    God bless, Happy New Year!

Gary, I’m counting on it. January should be a great month for Young Martin’s Reels. My wife is going to visit our son for 3 weeks and I will have plenty of time to make videos.

Happy new year Martin, love your videos, very nice cabinet, I noticed a eagle claw lake and stream on the second shelf down in the back right corner,.would really love it if you did a video on that.one soon , looking forward to seeing more

I ended up spending more for glass than I did to buy the cabinet. The bottom and top had almost disintegrated. I had some old walnut wood from a busted up antique bed that I used to make the top and bottom. I’ve got one more cabinet to finish and I should be done with my woodworking for a while.
You’ve got a good eye, that’s a Wright McGill Stream and Lake reel. I’ll see if I can get it moved up in the rotation.

I'm happy to see you're still able to be active. Here's hoping 2025 is a good year!
    My picks:
3:16 Top of cabinet, back row, silver conventional with red handle, and the gold Abumatic in front of it
4:08 First shelf inside, two reels on the far left side: the red "can" (automatic fly reel?). I see you've done a video on the Martin Mohawk Automatic 8A, which has a similar appearance. I'll have to watch that video.
4:21 Second shelf inside, middle, brown reel in back
4:33 Third shelf inside, left side, back row, green Abu spinner
4:47 Fourth shelf inside, right side, front - Is that a Penn 714 Spinfisher? Nice! I already know in detail how that one works, but there are sooo many interesting reels on this shelf. Do 'em all!
5:12 Fifth shelf inside, toward the left side, front row, silver conventional with wood grip
5:23 Bottom shelf, 3rd reel from the right, front row, black baitcaster with clear spool arbor - Is that an old Ambassadeur? I wanna see that one.
5:26 Bottom shelf, 5th reel from the right, front row, red baitcaster with yellow line. Looks cool. I've seen a similar design somewhere, along with some negativity. Wanna see what the mechanicals look like.

I'm hoping to be more than just active; I'm shooting for a very good year of videos.
Okay, here's the reel identification as best I could tell:
3:16 Pflueger Rocket Model 1355 and Abumatic 40.
4:08 The red can style fly reel is a Martin 49A.
4:21 Brown reel is a Ted Williams 135 fly reel.
4:33 That is an ABU Cardinal 6 spinning reel.
      4:47 Yes that is either a Penn 714 or 716 Spinfisher. It's missing the label but I'm pretty sure it's a 714.
5:12 It is a simulated wood grip but its a plastic or Bakelite handle on the Pluger Sea King 2188.
5:23 Black bait caster is an Ambassador and I believe it's a 5000 but the markings are missing. All it says is Ambassador and Sweden. I selected it as a parts reel. It's missing the handle, handle nut and handle nut retainer. I might be able to find enough parts to make it whole again.
5:26 the red reel is an Ocean City 945. It actually works pretty well. I'm looking forward to working on it.

Thanks for the reply. I have done the same thing, about 15 times right now. I had to take two of the sleeves off and emery cloth them to get them to go back on smoothly. Every single piece has to line up exactly, or I can’t get it to close properly. Thank you for replying.

Well, let’s see - I had three kidney surgeries, double pneumonia after getting the flu, a bout with pericarditis, and got hearing aids. I told you how much I liked your cabinet! I still think that someday when you’re not home, your wife is going to abscond with it. LOL. What is the large black spinning reel on the left end of the back row? I do see a nice Zebco Cardinal reel on that row of spinning reels. I think I saw your Luxor 3LA and a nice Penn 713 greenie. In addition to all my ailments this year I have gotten my reel collection to over 420 vintage spinning reels. It will shortly begin to shrink as I have to sell a few to pay for another nice center drag I just acquired. That Abu center drag was all for me in 2024. I can’t see buying anymore high dollar reels for a long time to come or the wife will throw my out in the cold. I started out 2025 early this morning getting four nerve ablations in my neck. What a way ti start a new year! Happy New Year Rick!

I am hoping that you can help me reattach a cam spring to the flipping cam of a 1989 Shimano Bantam Black Magnum, 2000 II, two speed right hand bait caster reel. So far, everyone that I asked for help has declined to help me repair this great reel. I mistakenly took the screw out of the flipping lever before I separated the right faceplate from the housing, big mistake. By doing that, the Flipping Cam Spring (Part # 1013) released from the Flipping Cam (Part # 1014). Even with the schematic, it isn’t detailed enough to show exactly where the spring attaches to the flipping cam. They both somehow attach inside the right faceplate and are held in place by the Flipping Lever (Part # 854), a Flipping Lever Screw (Part # 589), and a small black colored Lock Washer (Part # 590). When you reattach the right faceplate to the housing/frame, the Flipping Cam rests on top of the Joint Plate (Part # 1031), which is held in place by a Retractor Spring (Part # 823). In order to use the flipping feature of this reel, you have to switch the flipping lever to "FLIP", and then push the thumb bar down. I am really sorry for bothering you, but my options are very limited because I live in Japan. If I lived in the US, I could simply ship the reel to a dealer to be repaired. I am praying and hoping, that all the information that I have provided you, will enable you to help me. A simple drawing or photo of the spring placement on the flipping cam, is all I am looking for. Everyone, including the Shimano dealer basically told me to just throw the reel in the garbage and buy a newer model. IMO Shimano’s attitude is exactly what I would expect from a major manufacturer, don’t really care about the average guy and how much money he/she spent on one of their products-totally unacceptable! I paid a lot of money for this reel in 1989, to just throw a perfectly good reel away because nobody wants to help me repair it. My options are becoming slimmer each day!

Larry, thanks for reviving my nightmare. I received a Shimano phantom black magnum 1000ii about two years ago. It was non-functioning. I disassembled and reassembled that real at least 20 times trying to make it work. Several times I got up in the middle of the night to attempt to repair the reel. I finally put it into it’s own plastic tub and set it on the shelf. Until this morning that was where it had stayed. It is now back on my workbench. After reviewing the schematics of the 2000ii and the 1000ii it appears they are practically the same. I may not be able to repair the reel but I should be able to show you how to install your flipping switch spring. If you haven’t heard from me in a week, contact me again. If I don’t respond then, I’m probably in a mental institution for obsessive reel repair. 🤩😣😁
