Today I threw out a whole load of trash from my workplace. This was a sort of lead-in to throwing out stuff at home. This talk is really helping me to gain some insight into the problem of hoarding. Thank you for posting it. It's so helpful!

OMG This is shocking to me. At 56 years old I never realised until now that I could organise things into categories! Now I am putting all my large size clothes into a storage container. They are all too big for me. I don't want to throw them away just yet but at least they are organised into one place. throwing them out will come next.

Most definitely I have always been puzzled by my need to see things and hang things on hooks.. put them in clear plastic bags.. and the worst part is I have to get for example all of the 300 shoes together in one spot, (shut up that's only 150 pairs, lol) but I don't want to throw anything away until I see everything that I have so I can decide what I want to keep the most. After that I don't have a problem throwing stuff away. I have to laugh and I usually get other people to laugh at it too because it's funny it kind of break the ice.... I am not some fasion Queen not materialistic but I do know but I can't afford to buy anyting now that I'm disabled. And it's hysterical because I will hold onto one shoe for six months because I'm waiting for the pair to it. And as soon as I realized okay I must have thrown it out and I get rid of the one I'm holding onto... Guess what happens???? Of course, Murphy's law. I find the other one and it happens to be the coolest pair of black boots that I will ever come across only now it's just one black boot. Since I was trying to be a good girl and throw the other one away. I wonder how many people go through this

I just acquired his book. No, I don't have space for it, but I have avoided all the decluttering books up until hearing this guy state my thought processes. He knows of what he speaks.
Experience the urge without doing it. Like porn addicts.
The brain has a strong seeking feature. What is the healthy way to discharge this seekingn behavior if not porn clicking or buying books?
