  • Anytime i get small engines that "ran when parked" before i do anything else, I order an inexpensive aftermarket carb. It seems nine times out of ten, that is the fix.

    I can attest that carburetors are easy to change. I'm a 62 year old woman and I changed my first one last year. We had an old weedeater that hadn't been used in years and wouldn't run. Bought a carburetor for less than $20 and watched a Chickanic video about how to change and adjust them. Changed (carb, fuel lines, fuel filter in tank) and adjusted it with no problems and now it runs like a champ.

    Our culture has gotten so heavily entrenched in just throwing stuff away and replacing it if it breaks, it's nice to see you bringing these back to life with a relatively simple and cheap fix.

    I have passed along (given away) a lot of stuff for exactly that reason. It was frustrating enough that it did not start when I wanted to use it and I got even more bothered when a few minutes of trying to get it running didn’t magically resolve it (you’re fired). That was Phase 2 of life where I had little to zero time to waste on things (or people) that were not working well.
    Phase 1 of life…I happily collected others’ broken or non functioning stuff and fixed it.
    Phase 3….now I have all the time in the world and dislike yielding to things that really need to work. Even if I don’t want it anymore, I’ll usually fix it before I give it away to someone who does want it.

    Spot on with the comment “afraid of carburetors”. I have maintained thru out life that if it’s man made, it can be repaired, it’s just a matter of how much it cost if your not willing to invest some of your time and a few bucks in parts. There are some awesome deals out there. Thanks for sharing, enjoyed watching.

    MIKE, don't know why it is, but, I can fix other people's 'junk' and it works fine. Me? Not so much! Got a great Service star riding mower, rebuilt the carburetor with the proper kit, TWICE, delved into New plugs, coil, and various other parts. Non-ethanol fuel, everything new now, still got nuthin! Cranks, got spark just won't fire on its own, only on starting fluid. Guess its a lost cause.

    Every spring you can find tons of free / cheap small engine stuff listed online, everyone leaves gas in them over winter, they gum up, and won't start when they finally decide to use them. Easy carb clean or swap and usually it's back up and running in no time.

    My good neighbor picked up a box of Dewalt 18 volt tools at a yard sale last week. A small circular saw, an impact driver and a drill. The one battery with them wouldn't charge all the way and all his other stuff is the red tools from Harbor Freight, so he gave them to me.
    I cleaned the contacts on the charger and battery and it charges now, but I also ordered 4 18 to 20 volt Dewalt adapters so I can use my Dewalt 20 volt batteries on them.
    The extra adapter will be used to connect to a Crraftsman 18 volt battery shell, so I can use my Dewalt batteries on my Craftsman drill and work light.
    I already have an adapter I made to run my 18 volt Black and Decker weed eater, with my 30 Volt Dewalt batteries.
    I had to do the 'right thing' and buy 2 more 3 AH Dewalt 20 volt batteries, so I can keep everything charged and running.

    Hi Mike. I got one of those aftermarket carbs for a cheap chainsaw off ebay one time and it bolted in fine but only ran at wide-open throttle. I switched part of the throttle linkage from the original carb and all was fine. It wasn't from the company you mentioned so no bad reflection on them. Just mentioning it because once in a while, an exact replacement isn't really exact. The fix was pretty simple and if a fella had some mechanical aptitude, it wasn't hard to figure out.

  • @johnunsicker7440
    @johnunsicker7440 3 місяці тому +3

    So many people think you have to go OEM on stuff. Most of the carbs are made by a few companies and they just have a different plate with the brand name on it Most times the OEM part number will cross to a aftermarket parts. I do this with everything. Mower blades are another big one. Dealer wants $100 a set I can get the same blade with there part number stamped in the blade for $45 a set.

    Hello Mike. I have the FB32EC by TroyBilt. I also have the pole saw attachment. I have sharpened the chain once. The thing runs great on non-ethanol gas mix. The two channels have one thing in common and I suppose you know what is. Perhaps, the two channels could meet one day.
    Have good days!

    The cheap carbs don't last as long from my experience, but they're great for seeing if that's the problem with the engine. I tend to clean the old carb if the replacement works.

    • @Kleeman1
      @Kleeman1  3 місяці тому +1

      I've never had any issues, and a lot of "OEM" carbs are built in the same far around land. I can't find a reason as to why pay the extra for the name on the box. But if it doesn't last as long, a fella can still buy three or four of them for the price of the OEM lol

    • @m2hmghb
      @m2hmghb 3 місяці тому

      @@Kleeman1 It might have been the brand I used. It's happened with a snow blower and a chainsaw. I agree - I didn't buy an OEM carb as replacement - just a more expensive after market.

    My son buys old a bunch of old not running lawnmowers every fall. He then spends the winter when its too cold to do things out side fixing them up. Sells them in the spring. Gives him something to do and makes a little cash. I called him Karl, but had to explain it since he hasn't seen Sling Blade. 😸

    Common sense for changing a carburetor can be as simple as taking a couple pictures before you start to take it apart.
    I replaced the carburetor on my Dad’s mower because buying a multipack of float seats cost the same as a replacement carburetor.
    Definitely a seat was cheaper but I know I would not remember where I put the seats the next time I needed one of the 9 extra.
    One thing I found with the replacement offshore carburetor is that the gaskets were much thinner than an OEM Briggs & Stratton gasket.

    • @Kleeman1
      @Kleeman1  3 місяці тому +1

      I found the same things, same price to just get the whole carb, but thinner gaskets, but I've never had any issues with the gaskets and if I was too worried about it, some gasket material goes a long way

    Fuel in most cases is the issue, ethanol, it’s expensive but canned tru fuel is what the fire department uses and your not changing out carburetor almost because of gunks up. I tried regular non ethanol gas but only last about 30 days or less causing rough running engine
