New cybersecurity career videos drop every Tuesday and Friday at 9am EST. What other questions do you have about your cybersecurity career?
I’m confused. I was told to place vulnerability management as a skill on my resume. Based on what I see in this video, it’s a job role. Will you clarify? I’m switching careers and need a solid roadmap to break into cybersecurity. The field itself is extremely broad, adding to the confusion.
It’s both. The typical job title is Vulnerability Analyst or VAPT (vulnerability assessment and penetration tester). Some organizations will also call you a penetration tester, but your actual daily tasks are just running vulnerability scans for compliance and not exploiting anything.
Vulnerability management and vulnerability scans are also skills that are used in many cybersecurity job roles.
For your resume and LinkedIn, people are telling you to put that as a keyword to help you get found by recruiters and hiring managers.
In reality, everyone and their mother is doing that, so keyword stuffing doesn’t work anymore.
Besides listing the keywords, you also want to show you can actually do a scan and report the results. Show, don’t just tell.
Qualys should still have some free training for their scanner. I suggest going through that and then screen record yourself conducting a sample scan and reporting results. You don’t have to be on camera just record your screen.
That will show potential hiring managers that you can actually do the job.
@@CyberLifeTV I appreciate the time you took to explain the in-depth, yet clear-cut answer you have provided me. It actually makes more sense to me now. Again, thank you!
My pleasure
