For a long time I thought the lyric was “now little Johnny had an Ape that hung around the poor boys neck, and ever time that Johnny ate, the little fucker fed the ape” actually I prefer my version. I’m off to pen a letter, suggesting an edit.
Their first album, Laser Guided Melodies is also excellent as are Spacemen 3, Jason Pierce’s previous band. Also, Pete Kember from Spacemen 3’s band Spectrum are good, particularly the song How You Satisfy Me which is a total psychedelic drone and illustrates Kember’s minimalist approach as opposed to Pierce’s maximalism.
Thanks for this. Come Together is what sets up Think I'm In Love with a beautiful seguay. I think the vocal is largely used as a sonic tool and the lyrics tie ominously to the final track Cop Shoot Cop (Dr John on Piano) which references Prine's Sam Stone. The title track basically layers Can't Help Falling In Love With You and Fools Rush In. There's probably a bunch more references. May i suggest Tortoise's Djed. It's not short but oh so good. Happy New Year gentlemen.
Do the title track from the album - Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space (I Can't Help Falling In Love) - make sure it's that version with the Elvis lyrics incorporated. ua-cam.com/video/wg5GlmzIIZo/v-deo.html
I worked at an inner city woolworths on the cd counter and remember blasting this through the store and laughing at everyone's bewildered faces hehe
Repeating of my recommendation after your first Spiritualized review: check out their Life at the Royal Albert Hall. It is a stunner.
I think I’m in love is a great song

This is another song about heroin. We seem to have a few bands like that over here!
