I had never bought a pair of moc toes before, but I always loved the look of Thorogood's boots ever since I first tried them on at a Duluth, I believe. Just a few weeks ago, I decided I need to pick up a pair of moc toes, so I scoured ebay looking for Thorogoods and found some lightly used Field N Forest boots (with the leaf logo). From the little research I did, they're Fleet Farm's brand and the ones I got were made by Thorogood. So far, I've really enjoyed them, but it doesn't look like Fleet Farm sells them anymore. with your expertise, I'd like to see you get your hands on a pair, if possible, and offer your opinion if I made a good pick or not. All in, it cost me about $95, and all I did was a quick clean, conditioning and swapped the insoles.
When are you going to review more of the Wolverine line? How about Hudson boots, which have been around for years??????? They have other new products also.
ive been wearing irish setters for years now, and theyre still my favorite bang for the buck. comfort, price and durability are very good. i can get 3 years out of a pair.
I have to comment: This video could really have used a comparison of the lasts and sizing! Even just a rough idea of "this one is narrow, this one is wide, this one has a taller toebox, this one is for thin/thick ankles" etc. I think that's after all probably much more important than most other specs. And even though you can't fit a shoe through a UA-cam video, it might help people orient themselves a bit. Other than that, I loved it and thanks for all the hard work!
I would love to see you cut the Jim Green AR8. I think it is an underrated boot and should be making more noise in the boot community. With leather insoles added, they are probably my favorite boot so far.
@@OfDeath I'm jealous! They are sweet boots. The UPS man just dropped off my blacked out African Rangers. Damn comfy I must say. They can keep my Razorbacks, vellies, and Stockmans company. I'm amassing a small collection apparently.....
I’m a moc toe guy and have had several pairs of red wings and they’re great work boots. Even have had them resoled. However, I have a couple pairs of nicks and they’re significantly better. Not sure about other brands but nicks have to be pretty hard to beat.
Theres a new crazy horse leather Rockrooster! $129, leather welt, vibram outsole, 8" tall. I think its the Mantura? U gotta cut it up. I bought a pair and im liking them a lot!
I own both the Irish Setter and the Rockrooster. I alternate them with my Thorogoods to keep them all fresh. The Irish Setters are my favorite boots for winter weather or rain. The Rockrooster boots have really surprised me. The are super comfortable and look fantastic.
Around 5 or so years ago I bought a pair of of Golden Fox without knowing anything about boots at all. They were 70 bucks. I was starting an indoor production environment job. Those things lasted close to about 3 years of 40-50 hour work weeks before I finally retired them. If the build quality is 'decent' like it was, those things should be great for someone new to wearing boots everyday on the clock, and won't break the bank.
Yeah, it seems the current Perrys are different since they appeared on a Rose Anvil Tier list. Mostly the shank placement and the counter, which got the leather upgrade as far as I came to learn. Would love an actual update on the now 2y old tier list video. Love your insights, this is so useful for navigating the space to pick your own price\value point when spending between 200 and 500 stones on a pair, you just don't want to regret an expense like this, when you're not collecting them, but try to establish a minimalists wardrobe. ❤
I'd love to see how the Made In USA Georgia Moc Toes compare. They're about the same price at 200 dollars depending on model. I really want to support MITUSA boots but sometimes I simply don't have $300+ available.
Outsole traction is by far the most important to me. I walk on snow and ice for half the year. The vibram cristy crepe sole actually grips ice pretty well. They are lacking in loose snow due to shallow tread but are still quite useable.
I used Rose Anvil's recommendations for buying a good-quality "work boot" and chose the Rock Rooster boot but I bought the boots I wanted. These are the 8" Mantua (dark brown) leather soft-toe mock boots. These boots were listed on Amazon for $129.99 and delivered to my door for $139.74. They came with an extra pair of woven fabric laces, and are a rich brown color. After unboxing and lacing them up I immediately put them on and must say that they felt very good, fitting well, "right out of the box". 2 thumbs up. I intend to break these boots in and will let you know my feelings on them. Oh "side note" I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and grew through many good quality 8" leather boots growing up. I am also a former member of the U.S. military serving in the Navy & Army, so I do know about proper footwear. I enjoy your website a lot and look forward to new additions.
Im wearing my golden fox right now. They are the best value in boots. I added a red tanned kilte. After three years of regular wear they could use a new sole but are great otherwise.
I work in n construction, as an electrician. I think the Keen Cincinnati boots would fit in this list. 195 bucks, made in India and are chunky beefy sturdy moc toe work boots with a good fit and toe room. They're probably better than everything here for the price.
Just ordered my first pair of whites Perry’s thanks to Weston never seen any of these before I’ve had Timberland pro. and all the other ones that last 6-9 mths. can’t wait to try these ones

So, I have extremely deformed feet due to medical condition and the shoes are most important thing in my life, because without them I can not even stand. After years of exploring and spending thousands of dollars on different types of shoes and hiking boot, etc. I ended up with KEEN Utility San Jose 6inch Soft Toe Wedge Work Boots (for women) and been wearing them every day for the last 9 month and for the first time in my life I am happy. Every morning I f**ing feel happy to put them on 😁 Sooo, it would be cool to see what's inside and how you would rank them, because I really want to know what to expect from them in the future (I already got the second pair, just in case 😆)
The rock roosters are not a long lasting boot. I bought a pair just over a year ago, and within the last 4 months the stitching has failed, and the leather has started to get holes in it. The counter cover came apart pretty early on, but was hardly an issue. The incredibly soft metal on the eyelets likes to bend and change shape, requiring manually bending them back to be able to tie your shoes again, not to mention eating through your laces. They go through a set of ironlaces every 6 months or so. Back when this was $99, this was more than acceptable, but now at $120, I'm probably going to spend a little more and get the Georgias.
i have danner bull runs, i love em, theyre wider than thorogoods, i also almost bought carolina moc toes but nowhere carried them so i couldnt try them on
I wore bull runs all spring summer and fall. Till a dog we were sitting pissed on them. They were ready for a resole, I really like the super soft soles. But I can't get the pee smell out, I gave them away
i have those rock roosters (comfortable but squeaky) and a version of the golden fox with a steel toe (heavy but okay). i like them both but i picked up some keens moc toes that were on sale at $124. and i like it better for the work i do that sometimes involves using a pallet jack. my keens have a alloy toe. i needed that extra safety feature. and they feel lighter than the golden fox. (KEEN Utility Men's CSA San Jose... alloy toe) is my choice for my budget.
Which USA made boot would you get for someone with feet problems. Been dealing with gout and pain in the ball of my foot. I really like the design of the Thorogood. Thanks
Is it possible to glue in a counter cover into the Irish Setters? They're genuinely the only good quality CSA approved mock toe work boot we have here in Canada. The other brand that makes them is Keen but they're not really wide fitting enough for me.
Weston, your channel is the imo one of the most valuable channels ever when it comes to men’s footwear. You have really shined light on the truth about which boots are truly quality and which boots are faking it. Thank you. PS: you need to out the “thanks$” button on your videos
Question for Rose Anvil; are there any US made, work boots with toe cap (preferably composite but would take steel/alloy), that have zipper sides? I work offshore and part of the requirement for us is that we must have zipper sides for quick removal of the boot if we happen to man overboard. Price range isn't an issue but I would love to find a quality boot that suits.
Has anyone on here owned a pair of the Georgias? Also, what should you do when your boots need to be retired? I feel bad just throwing away a pair of waterproof chelseas I've had since 2019. Had them resoled last year but lining has now coming undone despite a new inner sole they've become hard on my feet. I bought a new pair of Origin Buffalo big lugs, Thursday Diplomats and Chelsea Redbacks.
why are you not talking about comfort???? thats the most important thing, i dont care how durable they are, if they arent comfortable and dont have a wide toe box then you cant work in them, who cares if they have thick material and last long if you cant wear them? we need toebox comparisons
I just got some Chippewa Edge Walkers. Id like to see how you feel about those. I will say they are very comfortable and fit nice. There was almost no break in period. They seem pretty waterproof too.
Generally, the insides of all these shoes is rubbish. Looking at those prices, you come to the conclusion that Red Wing moctoes are a phenomenal deal - you get 10 times more value for your buck.
Do you ever do any reviews of boots like the GoRuck MacV-2 ? I just bought a pair and they seem really good. There's only a few youtube videos about them. I first heard about them from Dave Canterbury.
I have a pair of Thorogoods that are still going a year later, but I’m looking to step my work boot. I like the moc toe and prefer to find another one. I like the composite shank for ease in the airport. What are some recommendations for a moc toe work boot with a composite shank, real Goodyear welt, made in America, leather heal counter, and 8 inch?
I've worn Thorogoods for over 20 years. For the price they couldn't be beat. Now the price is much higher I switched to the Whites Perry Moc toe. Better build components and quality for not much more $ anymore. I'm an IBEW Wiremen and alot of our guys are doing the same.
@@danichicago9140 that’s awesome to hear. I must have missed those looking at Whites. I looked at a lot of the PNW boots and didn’t see anything I was wanting. That Perry is at an awesome price point considering how much the Thorogoods increased in price over the last year and the quality you’re getting with Whites. How was the break in and can your feet tell the difference between the two boots? Thank you for the recommendation.
@ravnodinson there is a short break in compared to the Thorogoods out of the box. They are a little heavier because of the leather thickness and the Christy sole. They also stand up to puncture and repeated abrasion a little better. Also with the leather welt should get more resoles
@RoseAnvil I have recently seen your "bunny" or "Mickey mouse" boot videos. Aftet i watched them i got this idea of suggesting you that you guys analyze valenki, another cold-weather boots which is pretty famous and popular in cold places! So i suggest that you do one day a video about valenki
I believe he did thorogood a previous year. He did a blurb about other brands to look into, but I'm sure he just wanted to do a round up of this year's boots in this segment.

My brain: You need to go to sleep
Also my brain: Let's watch a guy cut shoes in half for 2 hours.
You should review the Keen Cincinnati moc toe boots
Curious why Keen isn't in any of your review or comparison videos?
Hey Weston! I'm a long time fan of the channel and would love to hear what you think of timberland pro Barstows moctoe boots!
You should get involved with the Offroad Games at Matts off-road Recovery
@@danichicago9140 I don’t mind the extra weight. I did look them up and the size I want are back ordered which is a complete buzz kill.
The shank in those golden foxes is under your heel??
This is really useful
I just got my Truman stone ramblers from UPS today. When are you going to review Truman?
My Redwing boots seem to be fantastic
No thorogood ???
I believe he did thorogood a previous year. He did a blurb about other brands to look into, but I'm sure he just wanted to do a round up of this year's boots in this segment.
Will you review the Irish setter in a nubuck?
Do you plan on cutting timberland pro Grid Work mocs in the near future, they look good, interested in your analysis.
im not sure i would call this a top 5 since there isnt a 6th boot that didnt make the cut its just a ranking of the 5 boots you did look at
QLTY work boots? Any reviews?
