This kinda stuff is why I love 3D printing. The ability to solve custom problems with custom solutions is so great.
The best part is that if we were not into 3d printing we wouldn't have to organize all this stuff :P
@@simoneazzoni3882 most of his stuff looks like camera equipment and general tools though
@@simoneazzoni3882 very true lmao
Use thousands of hours for non problems. Best hobby ever. ❤
Love "custom problems", becuase ultimately, he created this problem lol. Just kidding though, this is absolutely something I would do lol!
The effortless transitions between needing something, the printing time-lapse and then the print removal is stunning videography.
It’s so satisfying to watch
So effortless that it took me a few modules to realize that's not how a 3D printer works....
As an ocd person, watching everything fit perfectly is such a blessing
As an adhd person, all I can think about is how as soon as I had it printed and organized I would want to change it or move something or I’d get something new and need to rearrange.
A more detailed breakdown of how you went from the reference photo to having precisely-measured and space-optimized slots would be cool, how you carved out the shapes with rounded edges and sliced the files with the progressively denser infill. Also how did you precisely measure the curve of the scissor handles? I do everything in Tinkercad and it's all I know how to use because using shapes to carve out other shapes makes sense to me, but is extremely limiting and not aesthetic.
That's the video I want to see.
@@dhmclean Yup, me too, would be nice to see in-depth vid on measuring from reference photographs (I know that u can calibrate your canvas in Fusion if you know exact size of something on photo, but maybe there is more to it).
@@1ronman I've calibrated a photo and done basic modeling from a photo, but what I want to know how to do it to be able to take an object and have it be "cradled" in a holder. Molded into place sort of. He does that a lot here.
Yes to a video like this !
@@dhmclean You could try using photogrammetry to make a model of the item and use it as a boolean to subtract the shape out of the container. A lot of work though lol and the tolerances may be too tight.
In the beginning of the video he speeds over modeling from a photo so most likely he just used the sketch from the reference and extruded in -maybe added some wiggle room first- and then added a bevel to the edges.
I’ll be honest with you Scott. I have never found a channel before where I’ve been so sad and disappointed to discover they don’t have a huge backlog of videos to binge. I’ve started just straight up watching your videos multiple times. They’re incredibly well produced and the content is absolutely top tier. Can’t see a scenario going forward where your channel doesn’t become insanely popular.
Hahaha I felt exactly the same :D
3rd time watching this video today
Hahahha literally same
im watching this the fifth time bro it's awesome
Dude, your design details are so good. What a great setup 💪
this details - plastic waste

This is one of the best videos I've ever seen on youtube. The cinematography, the lighting, the precision with the time-lapse shots, the clean designs and functionality. Man, I can't tell you how satisfying this video was to watch! If I had wealth to spare, I would certainly be begging you to help me design a setup. Absolutely love your content man!
I felt the same, I watch it so many times just because its soooooo satisfying
I came here to say the exact same thing
agreed
AGREE!
Such a cool youtube video! My little 3Dprinter is hiding somewhere in my garage. After seeing this excited to dust it off
Crazy how you can make hours of modeling and printing look so easy….great work as always!
Days!
A few days ago, I was also thinking how those bits holders are annoying. Your solution with magnets is genius! I'll have to make something similar for myself as well. :)
When a video that’s recommended has nothing to do with anything you have ever searched for, but thoroughly love when you do watch. Great stuff
Hi Scott, can you maybe make a video tutorial on how you make the 3D models?
How do you get your measurements for the holders, for example?(in depth guide)
Because of this video, I am looking into 3D printers now. :)
I have the same question!
Same same!
Also which software did you use for that?
@@MichaSwitonWould also like to know
Ok, reviewing the video again it's clear that he used Fusion360
You can use any 3d modeling software that exports STL files. Sketchup is free and can get you going. Measuring simply comes down to pulling out your ruler and angle.
Hey, Scott. Wanted to say you're genuinely one of my biggest inspirations. I don't mean this as a joke or as a throw-away comment, but your creativity and execution of these video embodies the professionalism I someday want to achieve. I'm in highschool right now thinking of going into premed for university; thanks for these videos and everything you do to make them happen even if I may never go down the path of making content myself. I've recommended you to many of my friends at various instances. Thank you for your channel again!
The total time that you would’ve saved from having these organizers will most certainly not make up for the time it took to make them.. but when you think about it, its not about the time saved. Its about the experience and doing something that you enjoy. Great video as always Scott.
I don't know about this guy, but I have ADHD, and the time spent looking for things is probably in the months if not years of life. I can waste an entire day looking for a specific screwdriver that is lost as it never has a definitive home. I am also an industrial designer, so apart from making this for the items to have a home, the process of designing and making cements a psychological motivation link to utilise the individual places. The action creates a bond in your mind so strong you get a boost of endorphins by just putting the item back in its place. This creates an exponential feedback loop that ensures future proofing against misplaces or lost items. I currently have 3 of everything, as I never find what I need when I need it and end up going shopping!!
Definitely a clean slate, clean mind sort of thing. A lot of your mental state is relative to your environment and when things are neat and tidy, you can "feel" more productive or puts your focus on not searching for things. But I agree, the time trade off might not be the main goal.
@@Dumppump Gridfinity is better for ADHD as it can be impulsively reorganized if needed and Zack also has it.
I'm currently undergoing diagnosis and saving up for a bedslinger.
@@p_serdiuk I see your logic, however having unlimited flexibility can be detrimental too, at least for me. If you build your own like is done here: You have committed to something. You have put much more effort into it and by default has a sunk cost of time and effort, along with the pride of being the designer and builder. It’s the attachment to the effort and process that ultimately helps encourage the correct use and abatement of bad habits like junking the drawer or not putting an item back,
@@Dumppump Well I really dislike such sunk costs even while being conscious of my ADHD tendencies because I have a strong need of flexibility in my time (because I might not be able to follow through on my commitments on a bad day) and in my space (because I might not have the executive function capacity to plan everything out perfectly the first time, as planning is not my strong suit, obviously). So this is why Gridfinity works for me. I can still be proud of taming my mess and living an organized life, without clutter that is annoying (and the ability to emotionally self-regulate is also compromised in ADHD). I am motivated to avoid bad habits by making it very, very easy to do the opposite, which is why Gridfinity is emphasizing spacial opennes (everything has to be immediately accessible at the cost of efficient use of space) and custom fit (it is satisfying to put things into spaces that perfectly fit them, even in the face of the temptation to put them wherever).
Also Gridfinity can be grown over time, as more and more modules are added and rearranged, lowering the barrier to entry compared to custom solutions that you have to do yourself first, which is also very good for motivation, which is, again, impacted by ADHD. I can print a single Gridfinity grid and some ready made modules and start to use them immediately without dedicating any more time to planning and customization, and be motivated by the success of using that basic solution to expand on it, maybe even falling into hyperfixation on Gridfinifying everything around me for a time, until it tapers out and I switch focus to something else only to take up expanding the storage later which is very easy to do with a modular system.
There is just something theraputic about watching this video. Makes me wanna come back to it once in a while.
I can’t stop watching this video, as an engineer it is SO satisfying. Definitely planning on doing this when I get my new desk. Please make more of these for your other drawers!
Wow. This is my first time seeing your videos and I'm blown away. The editing. The cinematography. The clever masking in the shot at 4:56 and, above all else, the thoughtful design of each segment, even with care taken to reduce filament waste in both bottom layers and infill. Just wow. You, sir, are a master. Can't wait to dive into your video library and learn more. Kudos.
what masking i don;t get it
@@unripped92 Notice that he's hand is reaching the model before it was finished printing.
@@azi3lplays696 thats slick i like that
For real! I was admiring all those masked transitions, and when he reached from the front I was taken aback! I watched that clip frame by frame-more than once :)
this was just if satisfying could be a whole video, the way each object perfectly fit into the slots and the designs as well, also the cinematography is so relaxing!
Always love watching what you do with 3D prints to help make life that little bit easier. Thanks for sharing. 👍🏼
The level of detail in your projects is amazing! Such minor inconveniences when solved, yield the highest satisfaction!
I cannot stop watching this. The aesthetic, the sound, the satisfaction all together just itches something in my brain
Scott, your videography alone deserves awards! Not only is this the coolest take on true organization I've ever seen, it was incredibly satisfying to watch all the way through! Keep up the awesome projects and great videos :D
The details, effort, satisfaction, videography... I'm in awe
crazy high quality, love how usability drove the decisions here + the cleaver creative details, especially the screwdriver bit holder and the slanted power banks
I've only ever watched 2 of your videos, this and your equipment tour, and honestly I think you're an organizational genius. Your stuff is sublime, you inspire me to be organized. Kudos
Great video Scott, oddly satisfying to watch this process. Honestly I think you've got something here, way more fun to watch than those "clean up your closet" videos. Meanwhile: can you PLEASE create a video or short series on how you actually create and export the 3D models you're using for these projects? For many of us farther up the learning curve on 3D printing, a clear tutorial on that process would be amazing. Thank you!
Man, your videos are amazing. The work you put in your videos make waiting a month worthy.
The music and the transitions are amazing. Keep like that.
I love your attention to detail!!!
Been watching UA-cam pretty much everyday since 2011 and you’re content Scott is honestly the best I have ever seen.
From start to finish there is not one flaw I noticed. Lighting, the shots, the editing, the ad integration and on camera presence. Super inspirational man.
Can’t wait for more content like this as well as other types of content in the future. I think someone as talented as you intrigues people and I know for sure I’d love to get to know you through more personal content like vlogs and podcasts.
Keep it up! In my opinion. The goat.
Man is literally a maniac.
I love this so much!
More organizers will be appreciated.
you are a genius, can't stress enough how satisfying your solutions are!
Please keep making videos forever, even if once every three months. Your work is mesmerizing.
Everything fits so perfectly!! Amazing as always.
Great tip about avoiding bottoms on prints at 4:14 , everyone should start doing that
Surely it doesnt save that much time compared to the duration of the print right? Is it more about saving material?
@@Peter-jt3de First layers take a long time, especially with big flat surfaces like that. I wouldn't be surprised if it saved over 20% of the printing time
@@NicksStuff I agree! first layer is the killer for time!
Hey can you tell me how to achive this setting in cura. I mean how to reduce the bottom material
@@Abhyuday_rai in the Cura print settings it's under Shell > Bottom Layers. If you don't see the settings you'll need to click the ⚙️ icon and search for that setting to enable it. Bottom Thickness setting will also work
Oh man, this was the inspirational kick in the pants I needed to get my desk in order. I'm going with gridfinity, but keen to make a lot of custom modules following a similar philosophy to your designs with shadow cutouts.
The crisp, clean satisfying editing and care this vid was made with..... Inspired.
Subbed.
Watching this video about 3D printing and organizing was truly therapeutic. It's amazing how much of a difference having a 3D printer can make in solving everyday problems. I can understand why you want to have your own 3D printer - it really does seem like a game-changer. Not only does it make organizing so much easier, but it also allows for endless possibilities when it comes to creating and designing.
The 6:07 editing-the-motion-to-the-music... Wow. You're attention to details is incredible. Watching the videos is so aesthetically pleasing. Huge fan of your work!
I'm wondering for a while now: how do people film the 3D-printing timelapes like this? Is there a "timelapse" setting on the printer so the head moves to one spot after every layer? it really looks like magic
By default, no. If you use software like octoprint or similar they have timelapse features/plugins that do snap a photo at the same position every layer. Moving the print head away every layer does come with some quality degradation though.
They use an application called Octoprint. It does pretty much exactly what you described.
@@TheAnoniemo As a side note, the quality degradation is mostly related to either printers that haven't been tuned well (temps too high, retractions too slow, etc) resulting in stringing during the print head moving away, or bowden setups resulting in the same thing. It's entirely possible to print something with and without octolapse and still have the same quality on a decent printer.
Octoprint makes it easy. There's also slicer plugins that will move the head to a specific position after every layer.
Thank y'all for the helpful answers! But you also need your camera settings synced to that specific time to take a picture, but the printer doesn't always take the same amount of time for eaah layer, right? Or is the camera somehow connected to the printer?
Your ability to balance creativity and efficiency is truly impressive, and your dedication to your craft is admirable. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us, and for encouraging us to strive for greater productivity and focus in our own work. Keep up the great work!
I feel like this could be really useful thinking for accessibility as well!! Soooo well thought out ❤️❤️❤️

Ty for watching my vid
nope
nope
This is really cool! It appears that a lot of thought and effort was put into solving some of everyday gripes at the heart of your workflow and further customized to suit your needs. I find this is inspiring, something very much worth considering for anyone who owns a 3D-printer.
Personally I would be a little concerned about making the modules too specific to certain items (although the perfect fits are nothing to scoff at, very satisfying to look at), as their items eventually wear out/get upgraded/etc. and may no longer fit, however it does appear that you have already considered this, as the design approach is very modular and the tips you provided to reduce filament usage will make this issue quite neglectable on the grand scale of things.
Nope 👌👌
Watching the printing and then the object sliding perfectly into place is therapy for my brain
I will be watching this video on repeat. The design concept is outstanding. And the video execution is top tier as well. So well done. The details like the magnet to secure the scissors and the slight slant to allow the chargers to fit? 🤯😍So impressive! Thank you for sharing you talents with us!
You know it's good when the thumbnail hasn't loaded yet.
It’s nice to see someone else almost as obsessive about organization as myself but you are way more capable than myself at doing it right. I’m very envious of your technical prowess to pull it off.
I am envious of your productivity and organization
