Drag racing at the old airport in Siem Reap, Cambodia!

- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- People often ask us what is going on at the old Siem Reap airport. Are they using it for anything? Are there any plans for redeveloping the land? We don’t know, but on the weekend 24 - 26 May, the old airstrip is being used for drag racing! There is also a car and motorbike show and lots of things to see. We went out on the first day of the three day event.

This is so cool Claire 🏁🇰🇭love that you added this for a video! Thanks for sharing more about neat things to see there!
You are so welcome! 😇
Fantastic use of space❤
It really is! 😇
That was so cool and weird at the same time, seeing you walking on the tarmac 😂 So many odd details in that video, I can't wait to be there next fall to explore and discover. Not related but... How people manage to wear jeans in such hot weather baffles me.
Glad you enjoyed it! It was odd walking through the old airport 😳
Thanks for sharing something that isn’t of much interest to you but is for others. Fantastic to see the Khmer using the airport for this.
Glad you enjoyed it! It was very interesting, next year we will go full CB media on it.
Thanks for the video! Planning to go on Sunday, good to know what to expect
Go after 5pm, we went way too early 😒
Well yes, you were there too early, later on it was packed with people. With more races too, lot of food stands and a concert.
We expected that was the case as people were pouring in after we left.
Next year we will do the last two days fully.
Cool. Very nice vid, Claire..xx from Kampot.
Glad you enjoyed it! The heat was next level, though 😊
Love this!. I have always been curious about Cambodia's motorsport scene.
Hope you enjoyed it! It's alive and growing 🙌 👏
I wonder what the street march was about. The old airport could make a good high school, room for some big playing fields. Such beautiful buildings, hope they keep them. Drag racing is traditional on closed airports worldwide. Fun.
I hope so too! Most likely it will be kept for events.
Hopefully it's developed into a nice area for everyone to use.
More activity in SR…
It could be a big tourism festival for SR.
that brings back memories. it had just opened when I first went to Cambodia, construction workers were putting the finishing touches to it. I didn't know that it was no longer in use now.
It's just used for functions and VIP guests who fly in.
Cool I saw the flyer, I was thinking you'd make a video!
I wonder when they raced the actual cars. Cheers!
Later in the day, we were way too early 😪
today they are drag race the car
That was fun. Thanks for braving the heat out there even though it must have been a real drag 🏍️ standing on that tarmac. Stay safe, stay cool . Peace.
Our hearts we racing 🏁 🏎 ♥
I did not expect to see something like this in Cambodia!
First time we have seen something like this.
U thought we poor? 😂
All happening in Cambodia, amazing, but I still prefer the beauty and the quietness of the temples and the ordinary life the Kingdown has to offer.
Always good to mix it up sometimes 😌 👌
I was expecting RuPaul!!😂
Me too! It would have been more fun, that's for sure 😃
Many things to do in SR
There sure are 🤩
Were you guys there today?
Yesterday. It was damn hot out there!
@@ForRielsure was. But I did find a wonderful gin distillery!
@@chrisc5275 was it Kulen? We saw their banner.
@@ForRielyes indeed. Very tasty gin and really nice people. Had to buy a bottle!
It's nice to see some motor sports venues being setup in The Kingdom.
One question, since it was decided to build the new Siem Reap airport nowhere near Siem Reap, where will the connecting air shuttles operate from when the old airport is turned into a fairground?
The old baggage carousels would make ripping sushi trains.
It was a great choice of venue! There are shuttle buses that cost $8 per person and run regularly throughout the day. They could do something really fun with the baggage carousels, but I'd say they'll be left to decay.
Great video. Thank you for sharing this, Claire. 😃
Thanks for watching 🙂
Do you think it will be an annual event?
Probably more than annual.
Hopefully, if so we will be back.
Todd sent me 😁 enjoyed watching you two on Todd's channel Now in Lao
So great to have you here! I hope you enjoy our content.
A great venue & occasion for the petrol heads
Would have been fun to attend -
Thanks for taking us along ✌️👍👋
Yes it was! 😇
Racing hot cars 🚙… very cool SR
Thank you 👍
Racy hot car 🚗 ever
We promise a full experience of the event next year.
Hot hot hot wheel
Hot 🔥 🇰🇭 🏁
You summarized well there at the end the Cambodian drag racing situation not the drag racing scene 🤪. Gotta love the organized chaos 🤙🏻.
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
i think those people own those nice cars, most of them are high rank in the government and rich
There sure was a lot of money driving around.
As always Claire, amazing!! My daily dose of the Kingdom. :)
Glad you enjoyed it! The heat was next level but it was a fun day out.
Paul here 😃
Hi Steve
Hi, Paul 🥰
Hot 🥵 drag racing…great for trying
Thanks 👍 Next year we will be better prepared
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching! 🥰
Very cool Krud cap Claire!
I had to go to extreme lengths to get that Krud🧢! Thanks for watching!
🙂❤👍
😇🥰😍
I saw you guys on now in lao channel.
Aw, we love those guys. We had a great time travelling and hanging out with them.
NO shuttle transportation ! 👎
They did have the buses.....
How stupid of them to close that airport that is number one, other is equipment's that is used by an airport just left behind like a country has lot of money not to worry too much.
There are a lot of factors moving the airport which was planned before Covid hit. Now we just need to except it, but the buses could be at least sold.
Hey guys! Great to meet you the other night! I saw some of those suped up cars kicking around Siem Reap the other day and was wondering what they were doing here. Now we know! Thanks!
No problem we should meet up again soon 🙂
Want to see a video of you interviewing or interacting with Cambodians 😁
Will do 😃😁
Love your videos❤
Would you might view some accommodation in siem reap as a family of 5 please!!
Move there either the end of this year or early next year, would love to see what available out there .
Thank you
Thanks so much 🙏 😊
We will, start doing more apartment video's soon.
More entertainment for the locals and another way of business
Yes, it's very positive for the local economy. 😊
I was wondering when they gonna do racing scenes in Cambodia because Cambodia have a lots of land .
Yes, it's a great use of the space out at the old airport.
How hard is it to get your family there if I go to teach English? Wife and soon to be 2 kids! Ages: 1.5 years old and the other one is due in Aug.
As I understand it, each person has to have a visa in their own right. Check the visa and work permit Facebook group that is linked in the video description.
Convert that airport into a museum is kind of nice
Yes, there needs to be a more permanent use for it. 💯👍😊
Todd an nini and Nina sent me
Wonderful! Glad you're here. 😁
Hey Claire! Any news on the Kampot port? :) My latest information from some locals in Kep was Vietnam doesn´t want to issue Visas directly to Cambodians coming over to Phu Quoc...
I'm not sure about that. Given that Cambodians are ASEAN, do they even need a visa?
@@ForRiel yes they do. Vietnam seems to be way more strict on that than Thailand
Great videos great people caring about the people of the Kingdom😊
Thank you so much. It's lovely when people understand where we are coming from.
Hey, great video Claire, Do you happen to have contacts or a recommendation for a company that provides babysitter or nanny services in Laos (luang prabang)? I am asking for a fellow Aussie friend who is a single mum there looking for an affordable sitter.
Sorry, we don't really know anyone up there. We just passed through for 3 nights. Thanks for watching.
sick! now im realy tempted to bring my 750 ninja over with me. if im licensed and insured in the uk can i drive in Cambodia? or is it still the basic must have their licence?
Get an international license and you'll be ok. Big bikes do attract attention here, and you'll be automatically under a bit more scrutiny. Insurance, you'd want to read the fine print. Odds are it wouldn't cover you here.
@@ForRiel thanks for the reply. i have a full bike license in the uk people use that to go abroad all the time. there is a guy on youtube riding from the uk to Cambodia. so it has to be possible. im looking at moving there eventually. i know its not quite the right bike for the roads. but what i would get for it vs a new scooter is not great. sure would be fun taking it on the track. hard decision. you are right it would draw cops fine every time i pass one. n thefts. would make a crazy tuk tuk lol.
