Absolutely LOVE the idea of this game, everything sounds fantastic but as soon as I saw the flight patterns of the enemy fighters, the ease with which it appeared you shot down the 109s I thought NOPE. Unless they change that, if they leave it as it appears in the film, which looks exactly like a phone game I'm not up for it even if it's 12 PLAYER VR OR 100. it needs to be a PROPER simulation with some tweaks for gameplay enjoyment not the other way round. They're not going to attract many arcadey type VR gamers to an obscure old ww2 type game, (whilst putting off sim enthusiasts) ,let's face it! but they COULD attract EVERY sim player with a VR headset (*plus SOME adventurous arcadey types on easy mode) which is a considerably larger number right? Just my opinion, still maybe that WAS an easy mode shown Nd there was a realistic mode? With realistic flying enemy? One can only hope!!!
The gameplay shown if from above and beyond as I mention in the video and in description as it’s the only decent VR game footage in a B17 and the inspiration for this video. They have not released any gameplay officially yet.
@ItIsntJack well it looks great , everything apart from imo the way the 109s flew amd the flames from the fighters, so if as you say its just to give idea and finished game will have all that done realistically I'm all in . Love the idea of flying bombers with vr or things like submarines. It's so suited to a VR experience as you are in a restricted space , everything happens pretty far from you but you're still fully involved, aiming bombs or guns etc. For me I can't understand why these sorts of games werent top of the "to do" lists from day one of building a VR 😂
This should be a very interesting game and might be the tipping point for me getting VR. My great uncle flew in the 303rd BS Hells Angel's, 30 missions over Germany in various positions but primarily as a pilot. R.I.P. John "Dewey" Dorsett Jr.
@@SlavicUnionGaming Correct. There were other bombers you know. It wasn't the only bomber he flew before grounding into an office with as a Lt. Colonel.
God I’d love a game where it’s this concept but a ship. Gunner, loader, engineer, damage control, etc, all playable by a full crew. Sea of Thieves but it’s the war in the pacific. Imagine how fun that’d be.
I got it but never played it. When I heard development stoped due to the loss of one of the devs I lost interest in it. I did hear the remaining dev was going to do something new so interested in that.
There was a multiplayer VR submarine game a few years ago, I think it was called Iron Wolf. That was back when VR was still pretty janky on the interactions, and it was more of a submarine arcade than a submarine simulator. Still, they had individual missions and even an open world that you could patrol on while hunting convoys. You could fix leaks, reload torpedo tubes, operate the engines manually, aim, fire, and reload the deck gun, operate the periscope and lots of other things. My brother and I had fun with it, I just wish they had time to keep tweaking the interactions so the VR wasn't as jank as it was. I imagine B17 VR will be similar, but with better controls and interations. Depending on how realistic they make it or how arcadey they make it will affect how accessible it is. Too much detail will make certain positions boring as all getout, while others require so much knowledge that few people will be able to use them. But if you make it too arcadey like COD then the detailed simmers will just give it a pass, since it would have no basis in reality. Tough balance to find. I'm interested to see how it turns out.
I got it but after hearing of the passing of one of the devs and the remaining dev stepping away I just never launched the game as they had so much planned but it will now never happen. Last I checked, the dev wants to do something new but not sure what or when. The devs of this B17 game though wants things to be realistic though so could be more in depth than we think.
@@ItIsntJackdamn if that happened they should have tried getting interest into a new dev or even released it open source for people to keep the legacy going of their good work
I've been wanting a 10-seat B17 for DCS (in VR) for years, this could be even better! I hope the enemy aircraft won't be as arcady as they appear in this demo, realism is key here I think but balanced with it being fun for all 10 members. Who wants to be radioman, navigator or co-pilot though? Needs working out to be fun. Adding to wishlist for sure and would pre-buy ifit would help dev team.
Yeah, I was expecting, or at least hoping for, something a bit more realistic. The way those 109's are flitting around like gnats and falling like flies, does seem to be more on the arcadish side.

I doubt this will become a reality for at least 2 or 3 more years. It will probably be a big letdown. Pilot, gunners, and bombardier would be fun but nobody wants to be the copilot or radio operator.

This and the other B17 games on Steam have been "Coming Soon" for years. Been in my wishlist a long time. I don't think they'll ever see the light of day.
I'll believe it when I see it, all I have seen so far is vapourware sadly. I have been following this years already. I loved the original Mighty Eighth, brilliant game for the time.
I agree. I have been following since I hear Microprose was back and they were making the 3 B17 games. I've seen them post all sorts of things which I will admit has made me excited for the game they say is coming but the lack of actual updates with gameplay does make me have doubts now after the few years I've tracked.

I remember hearing about this 2 years ago and the initial development was coming along swimmingly, however since 2022 their discord went silent, I don’t believe this is the same company but the other group has been silent for ages now. This isn’t the 1st time that someone has tried doing this and I hope it doesn’t end up flopping like the other group.
According to the moderators in the Discord, the game is still very much in development but without stuff to show and prove that, it certainly is hard to take their word for it.
Seems to be the norm now unfortunately. I tend to wait until I see actual gameplay from not the devs. So like on a stream or on UA-cam before I make my decision.
The Might Eighth was an incredible gaming experience, especially considering how long ago it was released. If this VR version actually comes to fruition, I would spend the money on the setup to play it.
They are also remaking the same mighty eighth from the past on a new engine but keeping the gameplay the same. Looks really good. Called the Mighty Eighth Redux.
My great grandfather shot down an ME/BF 110 as a ball turret gunner in one of these. Im probably of one of only a handful of people of younger people around the world who got the crazy opportunity to fly in one of these legendary warbirds so if this ever comes to fruition, ill have to get it, but this was gonna be a thing years ago and never worked out so im not optimistic yet.
I would love if there was a 100% dynamic mode, where there is no scripted parts, only randomness where there is no guarantee you will even survive even if you do everything right. I want the flak to be random and could kill you at any point, or a random spray from a 109 could get you. Parts of the plane tearing apart as you're in combat, that would be amazing.
This game is not yet available on Steam Planned Release Date: 23 Jan, 2024 This game plans to unlock in approximately 18 hours Thats what it says on steam now
This project is interesting but also very ambitious (which can be a good thing given the right ressorces and planning) To do simulator of a ww2 bomber can be alot of work on its own. Then having 8 player co-op on top AND having the whole thing working in VR - well i am not suprized if it takes longer to make than the stated 2023 Q3.
Honestly, I kinda wish they'd just scrap the VR part and just basically make B17 the mighty eighth, but with co-op multiplayer in first person. Just like Wolfpack. Who needs VR? It just adds complexity to an already ambitious idea. EDIT: Actually, just read the FAQ and there's a question that says, "Q: Will the title be VR-exclusive? A: At this point yes." WHAT??!!?! SO WE HAVE TO HAVE A VR HEADSET AND IT'S ONLY VR??!?! Well, it's dead. Going absolutely nowhere now. Fan-fucking-tastic.
There is no need for them to drop the VR when they are also releasing a non VR game called the bloody 100th which is a more in depth campaign in more bombers
If feel like it would lack replayability. How many times are you and your friends would realistically want to repeat the same loop of flying, shooting at planes and dropping bombs?
Depends on how they do it. If you progress airframes as you play or the targets get harder the later the game such as jet fighters when hitting Germany in 1945 I think it could have long playability as well as modding being supported will also help.
Microprose have number of very good looking games in development. But it feels like things are moving very, very slowly. I’ve had their Cold War naval game on my Steam wish list since 2020. I suspect we are many tears away from a release.
2:19 David Lagettie? How'd he end up with the original dev team? You might wanna have a look at his Band "Seventh", and maybe also at VBS1 which the aussie military used to train with, before it was superseded by VBS2 which is still in use i guess. edit: Developer Outerra??? Right folks, kiss your release schedule goodbye lol edit2: Publisher Microprose? Something tells me that Mr Lagettie has found a way to invest his government $$$'s :D
I occasionally play IL-2 Great Battles with friends as a gunner. Shame there isn't many multicrew airframes in the game. The tanks are fun too but not enough content to be worth the price.
From what I've heard on the national BBC radio station news bulletins, there is a lot of rationalising going on in the gaming industry; lots of studios being mothballed or closed completely because of the global economic downturn and spiralling costs of developing games. So I wouldn't be holding my breath while waiting for news of the new B-17 game. I think it's going to be a long time before it ever sees the light of day. By the way, the Redux of the old B-17 The Mighty 8th" is not all it's been cracked up to be. It is full of bugs and some UA-cam streamers are returning to the original version of the game because the Redux repeatedly throws up anomalies such as ridiculous numbers of enemy fighters and no flak over the target, or no fighters and ridiculous flak barrages. Every time a B-17 goes down, no crews actually bail out: the debriefing is full of such and such bomber crashing in either enemy/friendly and all 10 crew members are listed as KIA. A UA-camr, whose playthroughs I've followed for a number of years, Taff-In-Exile, was in the middle of a tour of duty, when the game crashed to the desktop no fewer than FIVE times before he decided to continue his tour using the original 2000 version. The Redux really is not very good, and if you're thinking of investing hard-earned cash in buying a copy, I'd urge you not to bother. It's throwing good money down the drain.
I havent seen but I am hopeful they give us older bombers, Id love to get into a B24D. For the main B17 content I hope on the VR it is like the original Mighty Eighth where you experience the whole mission from waiting to taxi and take off, the take off, the form up, the mission then the return, the orbit to land then the landing. I know it takes a long time for that to play out in real time but in VR it should be a option for those of us that want the full real time experience.
I know you have to drive up to the aircraft, board and go through startup so maybe this will be the case by default. As for older bombers, I know they have different variants of the B17 and most likely the B24 also.
The flight dynamics of all the aircraft don’t seem to be realistic. Those fighters wouldn’t just fly in formation in “gun zones” of the B-17s. They don’t live long doing that. I think they’d make slashing passes, making it difficult for the gunners to target them. The only time they might do that is to get behind a B-17 for a short time and pound the hell out it with their guns…which is a very bad thing for everyone inside that aluminum can (B-17). That said, it’s an awesome looking 3D model in VR! I wish that was in DCS, where the flight models, flight dynamics and gunnery ballistics are much more realistic.
I've been waiting on this, the B-17 2 remake and the Bloody 100th (B-17 3) since they've been announced. They're just about vaporware at this point. The B-17 2 remake was supposed to release as early access in Q4 of this year. There's two and a half weeks left and no indication of any movement. I feel bad for they guy they've got as Discord admin.
Imagine syncing this game with IL-2 multiplayer! Real players would be escorts and defending Luftwaffe aircraft as this game's players manned their bombers and try to hit their targets. Amazing...
Oh wow kind of reminds me of that old B17 Flying Fortress game from way back when. Edit: Naturally right after saying that and playing the video you say that it's from the same people lol.
I can imagine a game that’s going to take this same type of VR movement an interaction but with more then 10 v 10 An mix it with DCS to have a hardcore fps bomber / pilot fighter in a WW2 setting an adding a little of squad or postscriptum an have battles of hundreds Not just as a pilot/ bomber fps but all in one like a game where you can have foot battles tanks planes boats anything but hyper realistic an VR capable it (shouldn’t be too hard)
If this is all true then I am all in. I used to play Air Warrior back in 95 and would fly a B-17 with 6 crew manning the guns and I had people from all around the world gunning and talking on the radio with some of the funniest people actually being German. We would fly tree top height and kill all incoming fighters before blasting just above bombing altitude and spread a lot of havoc. Looking forward to this game.
Bro the first few seconds of your video made my heart stop. I've never played Medal of Honor Above and Beyond, so I did not recognize the footage lol. Here's to continuing the wait!
I got the idea to do the video while playing MoH as the B17 part is cool but the game itself is rubbish which is a shame as it had the right idea and constand easter eggs from previous titles.
Holy crap I have had this same idea for 2 years now after playing bomber crew and remembering the old COD mission, but I dont have the skill or time to make it. Seeing it IRL with these kind of graphics, I cant believe it. I think the concept can be really fun. I hope they find solutions on the problems to make it fun and engaging in the long run. I been playing with the idea of having plane upgrades. The person hosting is the one with the plane and needs to have the upgrades. Like demonlogist lobby, or have something like phasmophobia where every person can add items, or in this case add upgrades. Get rewards and such for completing the missions. Gonna keep a close eye on this, I cant wait to see what they come up with.
It will be good for a couple of players, swapping positions will keep them busy. But ten people on a six hour flight? Be pretty boring. Imagine being the chin gunner and getting five shots off the whole time cause your being attacked from the rear. Or the bombardier, three hours of twiddling your thumbs five minutes of terror, another three hours of boredom coming back. It may be realistic but i play games to alleviate boredom not create it.
The gunsight reticles are wrong. The gunsights for the Upper Turret and Ball Turret had a ranging reticle that was adjustable to the target fighters' wingspan. If details are the objective of this VR experience, then do the proper research and get the details right. Also, those fighters are sure going slow, it looks to arcade game like
Fingers crossed for the games, but MicroProse was apparently bought out by a new team! So lets hope they're not just going to ride on the shoulders of that beloved giant in games and palm us off with some generic EA crap!
I would but it in a heartbeat. The only decent VR game I have played in VR is HL:Alyx but for a military sim type game, nothing out there is really worth mentioning
Back in the day I sunk 100's of hours into the might 8th, been hyped for all 3 games for the last 2 years. Just a shame like you said there is almost 0 news about it and what is going on
Mighty Eighth was one of the 1st games I got for PC and played it to death. I'm glad I can get it on steam and they are remaking the same game too along with this VR one but from the ground up
I'm sure someone has thrown this theory out there, but is it possible they're being very quiet about the development because they want to surprise everyone with a simultaneous release? I'm referring to Apple TV+ releasing "Masters of the Air" in January? It's the third series made by Spielberg and Hanks about WWII, and this game would pair very well with that.
The people on the discord thought the same thing. Especially because the third B-17 game they're working on is also focused on the 100th BG. We're not holding our breath though.
I believe they also plan to add fighters and if the lancaster does get added like teased, spitfires and hurricanes are not out of the question. Especially with modding support.
One of my favorite WWII games on paper was “ B 17, Queen of the Skies “ where you played a full crew on a mission as a solo war game. My friends once gathered nine copies of the game and played a small wing group flying together at a war game convention!
would definately be interested in this, especially if you get the option to be in a B-24. My Great Uncle was a tail gunner in a B-24 over Italy from 1943 to 1944. Would be really interesting to get a feel for what it was like for him. I said that and pause though, because I know it had lasting negative effects on him though well after the war...
Played the original for hours at a time, been waiting 20 years (or so) for an update... Also played Air Warrior 3 (multiplayer online) about 20 years ago and we got full bomber crews on co-op missions against enemies who were actual players and not AI. Great fun. Hope this one comes to fruition and soon.
sorry...gonna call bullshit on this... have you seen the content of games they (microprose) are releasing of late... 3rd rate rubbish..... this is a massive undertaking if its to be done properly if at all...... sorry to be a jenny doomer
They have not made any games yet, they have published many since their revival such as Ground Branch, Carrier Command 2 and more. The B17 games are their first in house developed games. Their B17 games also have some of the original team working on it so I disagree with your statement.
Clicko vision had a b-17 bomber game! You would have a top down view for bomb runs and get alerts to what side the plane was being attacked from a plane. Then you had to switch views

This project is interesting but also very ambitious (which can be a good thing given the right ressorces and planning)
To do simulator of a ww2 bomber can be alot of work on its own. Then having 8 player co-op on top AND having the whole thing working in VR - well i am not suprized if it takes longer to make than the stated 2023 Q3.
It is very ambitious but has been in development for years. While I doubt it will release on schedule, I don’t see it being years away.
@@ItIsntJack yea but even then i've heard nothing about the mighty 8th redux game or the bloody 100th getting multiplayer in the future
The world needs more B17 Games!!
4:28 theese german fighters flies too slow, it is not realistic at all!
Been waiting for someone to make this bro million dollar ifea
Microprose have number of very good looking games in development. But it feels like things are moving very, very slowly. I’ve had their Cold War naval game on my Steam wish list since 2020. I suspect we are many tears away from a release.
I want this as a physical VR arcade game!! With a fuselage on a gimbal, force feedback M2's, flak jacket, etc
That would be unreal
I want to play this so bad!! Multi crew bombers in VR is my dream. Please god let this be completed!
2:19 David Lagettie? How'd he end up with the original dev team? You might wanna have a look at his Band "Seventh", and maybe also at VBS1 which the aussie military used to train with, before it was superseded by VBS2 which is still in use i guess. edit: Developer Outerra??? Right folks, kiss your release schedule goodbye lol
edit2: Publisher Microprose? Something tells me that Mr Lagettie has found a way to invest his government $$$'s :D
They had 10 player squads in BF2142… so large squads should be easy… even squads in squadrons.
id only like a game like this if you played in teams with the ability to also play as a single seat fighter
I know they said they would like to add fighters later on. Maybe we can fly escort missions to player bombers or even attack players in the skies.
I was in a discord group that was developing a similar game to this but it died a few years ago
I've heard of a few projects doing similar but unfortunately don't go that far.
there is also word of b26s and b25s i believe for the future in either the vr or the other modern one
I heard something about that in either a discussion about modding or DLCs.
This game has been in development for SO long it’s in danger of looking and playing like a 2016 VR game, as that is mostly what it is.
I thought this was abandoned lol, good to see it is still in development
Still going, they just don't seem to post any news about it.
i Loved playing IL2 in a bomber with 3 or 4 buddies
Amazing...
This. I would love this.
Oh wow kind of reminds me of that old B17 Flying Fortress game from way back when.
Edit: Naturally right after saying that and playing the video you say that it's from the same people lol.
Yup. Same. They are also making same old game from scratch too, not just a remaster.
Would be fun with earlier B-17's without the chin turret, but looking super good so far!
Earlier models are going to be included such as the F like the Memphis Belle.
I can imagine a game that’s going to take this same type of VR movement an interaction but with more then 10 v 10
An mix it with DCS to have a hardcore fps bomber / pilot fighter in a WW2 setting an adding a little of squad or postscriptum an have battles of hundreds
Not just as a pilot/ bomber fps but all in one like a game where you can have foot battles tanks planes boats anything but hyper realistic an VR capable it (shouldn’t be too hard)
Last game I bought was about 10 years ago. But this I would definitely purchase.
Why can’t somebody make an IL2/DCS style B-17 8th Airforce OR a Pacific Carrier Aviation simulator that is new. I would buy either…..
The Q4 of 2023 was the date before Covid, so look at it being a lot longer.
True. My guess, maybe Q4 2024. We might be pleasantly surprised though so just going to wait. Patiently. Staring at my PC. Waiting......
We need a full WW2 battle sim in vr. I need that. One that feature vehicles and that is very strategic.
I would but it in a heartbeat. The only decent VR game I have played in VR is HL:Alyx but for a military sim type game, nothing out there is really worth mentioning
I played the hell out of the Old mighty 8th.
The fact it's come back is nostalgic as hell and I'm beyond excited.
this looks like that one game called medal of honour where you fly a b-17 in a mission
Oh that's cool, it reminds me of that U-boat VR Co-Op game but better. I hope that it's as good as it could be and isn't just a gimmicky mess.
Bombardier to Pilot, opening the bay doors.
Bombardier to pilot, had to close them, the navigator fell out of the bomb bay again.
It is a possibility, would certainly give sales and advertisement a boost.
The people on the discord thought the same thing. Especially because the third B-17 game they're working on is also focused on the 100th BG. We're not holding our breath though.
4:43
THat bf-109 making that maneuver makes me believe this is not realistic. Could be fun still though.
I believe it when I see it.
I’d like to see a similar VR game on the Meta Quest 3 where you can fly a Spitfire. 😊
I believe they also plan to add fighters and if the lancaster does get added like teased, spitfires and hurricanes are not out of the question. Especially with modding support.
This looks awesome. Now I just need 9 of you guys to join me
Just let the other 9 be AI. Take role of radio operator and just have a pleasant flight haha
I'll Go ! Ball Turret Gunner Sir !
I'm in!
To think...there were guys about the same age as the people playing this game, who did this in real life during WW2
VR is still too expensive and processor intensive…. This is wh they are holding off. Your welcome.
i imagine my friends and boyfriend screaming at me what im even doing lol (i suck at being the gunner)
As do I. I just hope my crew can pick up my slack haha.
Wow!!! :)
*Never happen. The operative word is **_"cooperate"..._** NOT something people are known for nowadays.*
One of my favorite WWII games on paper was “ B 17, Queen of the Skies “ where you played a full crew on a mission as a solo war game. My friends once gathered nine copies of the game and played a small wing group flying together at a war game convention!
That is cool.
We need to be seeing our avatar & not just gloves
If done right, nothing worse than the tracking going and your head comes out of your ass. haha
You shot thru your own plane... and you ran out of ammo so fast in real life. Definitely not real. But looks like a fun game
mega unrealistic game; fighters like a toys in child hands
This would be the ultimate team support game dude, this gives me absolute chills of excitement!
I cannot wait for it. I wish they would just keep us in the loop.
This is awesome, but can't wait for Falcon 5
We have submarine game vr such type, it is beautiful, but nobody plays
Great review but in the future, please slow down panning of the camera.
Long range bombing missions have got a lot of boring bits and everyone will want to be a gunner.
This game will be trash to poor developer they dont care not update anithing joke
Give me a radar plot and nav screen! I’m here for it!
I like to walk back as far as I can in warthunder bombers, should be fun.
I loved the mighty eight as a kid. I didn’t know they were remaking it!
Just released a video about the redux version of the mighty eighth. Its coming very soon and looking very promising
@@ItIsntJack thanks, I’ll check it out.
would definately be interested in this, especially if you get the option to be in a B-24. My Great Uncle was a tail gunner in a B-24 over Italy from 1943 to 1944. Would be really interesting to get a feel for what it was like for him. I said that and pause though, because I know it had lasting negative effects on him though well after the war...
DEVS PLEASE MAKE THE IRONSIGHT TRUE TO HISTORY MAKES THE GAME LOOK ARCADY
Played the original for hours at a time, been waiting 20 years (or so) for an update... Also played Air Warrior 3 (multiplayer online) about 20 years ago and we got full bomber crews on co-op missions against enemies who were actual players and not AI. Great fun. Hope this one comes to fruition and soon.
Super interested to see what comes of this! We need a good Bomber sim.
Single player version FTW!
I'd play it in single player too. Would be nice to enjoy the flight with the AI doing the work
sorry...gonna call bullshit on this... have you seen the content of games they (microprose) are releasing of late...
This is what I’ve wanted. I’m helping funding this.
So wolfpack in the air 🤗🤗🤗
pretty much
microprose grand prix f1 game was rad back in the day
games like this would be the only reason to get vr for me.
This is one of the coolest ideas I've ever heard!
It is indeed!
Battle Field had 10 man teams with a built in chat when it had Titans
Man this games been on my wishlist forever, fingers crossed it happens
Sadly, none of my friends have VR
