  • Welcome to No Kids Allowed! in todays episode we are joined by Riyadh, winner of Celebrity Master Chief and Author of Yay! You're Gay! Now What? A Gay Boy's Guide to Life to discuss the topic of what would you do if your child came out to you as LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and/or Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual and/or Ally)
    Myself and Anna are both straight and have lived a mostly straight lifestyle for most of our lives so how would we manage and ensure our child would have the support they need.
    As always i love reading your comments on our opinions so please leave them below, and share this video as much as you can so other parents who might be in this situation can hear our conversation.

    Jonathon wants Eduardo to be gay so he can be accepted by the lgbtplus community, but Ed is too young to be gay, quit labeling him, pressuring him as if he won't be loved or will let you down if he wasn't gay. He just wants to be loved by his parents and Emilia is obviously the favored child.Poor Eduardo is not gay. you cant decide for him.

      I knew I was a lesbian since I was little, I sent love letters to my friends when I was 5, just like you knew you were straight, nobody forces you to be gay, if you were born that way, only prejudiced straight people who keep forcing lgbt people to be just like you, ridiculous.

      Really? A breath of fresh air? Eduardo cannot consent. Why are they using their son to entertain others? I would rather hear Eduardo when he's 18 speak about this. Not his parents when he's barely in grammar school speak to someone he might one day not even like. Or he might not want to speak about it at all because he just wants to live in the moment. This is exploitative!

    It frustrates me that people feel they have to announce their sexuality, not because I'm homophobic but because its no one else's business. As long as you feel happy in your own skin that's all that matters. To think people have to hide who they love is just unimaginable. Life's too short to worry about who's sleeping with who. Just because a male child chooses to dress in girl clothes and play with girl toys for example does not automatically mean the child is gay . A younger boy child often takes after the big sister. My brother was this way and he is a grown man with no gay behavior, married with children. Let children be who they are, they simply are not exposed to the harness of the world to know what is acceptable or not acceptable. If they grow out of it great, if they don't that is great to. One automatically "assumes" a child is gay by the way they act and play .... Don't push a child into one category or another ... Simply let the child grow and be who they feel comfortable being.

    This is such an interesting discussion! However to me it feels pretty selfish that straight family or friends could think that they are owed a coming out moment when it’s something so deeply personal and potentially traumatic. If an lgbt person chooses to share that part of themselves with you explicitly, then that is a privilege for you that they feel comfortable enough with you to share. If they choose to just live their lives authentically without an explicit coming out moment then that is absolutely their right as well, and I hope that in the future more people will feel secure enough in their environments to do that!

    I get Anna’s point when talking about her sister, about wanting her to have a ‘coming out’ so that she could process that herself. However I also don’t think that it should have to be a ‘coming out’, you don’t have to come out as straight and announce who you love. Who you love is who you love. We’ve always been very open in our house that you never have to ‘come out’ because you are who you are and that is nothing to be hidden and kept secret. This is probably worded really badly but I hope it gets across what I mean

    To the point of wanting people to come out officially, I wanted to bring up something I learned once that really opened my eyes. When kids are growing up, they are automatically assumed to be straight. This is called "compulsory heterosexuality," and it basically enforces the need to come out: everyone is assumed straight until told otherwise. It can endorse the idea that heterosexuality is the norm and when you come out you deviate from that norm. This was something I had never really thought about before I learned about it. I started talking to my roommate about it who is a lot more knowledgable on the subject and I wondered, "should you just assume they could be anything?" and she said "well why do we need assumptions about who kids will like anyway?" This was very eye-opening for me. I think it relates a lot to the discussion of labels because it can feel uncomfortable to not have a label for someone. Now I see it as sort of a new path, maybe we should just let kids be kids until they show interest in someone (not having an official coming out, but rather just accepting it) or they declare it themselves (an official coming out, no matter where you are on the spectrum!). I think this would take a lot of pressure of kids and prevent them from feeling like they "aren't normal" and need to announce it to the world. Obviously this is very hard when you are so conditioned to think in a binary way, but I found it interesting and very eye-opening. Food for thought!

    Astrology gets a lot of bad rep. Also disclaimer - the star signs haven’t actually changed! Anna is still a Scorpio (Loving, feels intense emotions, strong willed) etc, and then you can look at a birth chart for a much more in depth breakdown. Different planets rule different parts of your chart, which can make you less likely to identify with only your sun sign (in Anna’s case - Scorpio). There is so much more. For example, Anna’s moon sign (based off google) is Aries. This makes her ambitious, has an inner drive and very well structured. The moon rules your mother and children, and 2/4 of her children are also Aries. Anyway, long story short - signs haven’t changed and there is so much more to astrology!

      That’s lovely to hear. Just for the record, gender is a socially constructed thing. Centuries and communities have built them up. That’s one thing. Another thing is the sex, the bipolar system which identifies the baby based on their bodily differences. Even that is in fact an unnecessary thing, as it just makes the baby be a part of a system which was brought up to make things as some superior systems wanted it to be. So in fact the gender the baby has in your womb, is something which is constructed, there is just a humanbeing with a certain set of organs :)

    • @meghanh2511
      @meghanh2511 3 роки тому +4

      @@MeltemKarpat A baby is born male or female. It's a physical fact and thing. Whatever the baby chooses to be when it is older and understands feelings and knows all about genders, sex, etc, it can be whatever it wants to be. I personally will accept my child as whatever gender or no gender, but that doesn't change the fact that all babies in the world since humans first existed are born male or female.

    • @xoxostoneyoxxo
      @xoxostoneyoxxo 3 роки тому +1

      @@meghanh2511 That's oversimplified though because we know that intersex people exist. It is assumed that 1% of the world's population are intersex, which is the same as the percentage of people with red hair. There are actually quite a few chromosomal sex pairings that exist (XX, XY, XXX, XXY, X, XXXY) not just XX and XY, and each of these pairings may result in different primary sex characteristics (gonads, ovaries, etc.), secondary sex characteristics (body hair, voice pitch), or an over/under production of certain hormones such as estrogen and testosterone. So a baby may appear to be female at birth and assigned female as their gender, but then during puberty they find that where the ovaries should be there are actually testes. Of course this is just an example and there are so many ways a person's biological sex could be expressed. I find this all really fascinating and have been studying gender and biological sex since 2012! Hope you are staying safe and well. www.who.int/genomics/gender/en/index1.html

    I LOVE that you are bringing this to the forefront. I would also like to tell you about some amazing private online groups (via Facebook) for Mom's just getting this news. Frist of all, there is Just Because They Breathe (for Christian Mom's trying to navigate through their belief system, Freedheart Mom's (for Mom's who have come full circle and just want the support of other Mom's), and then their is Serendippity doo dah for Mom's of all beliefs. They were life savers for me when I first found out our son is gay. God has brought me full circle and I just LOVE better now. Wouldn't take anything for my gay child and all that he has taught me. :-))) I spend my time now trying to be a bridge in helping other parents and LGBTQ people navigate through this process. Thank-you again!!

    I feel like in today's society, the fact that coming out is still such a big deal still is a little strange. I know for a lot of people its a hard struggle (was for me) but I would wish for my children that the whole coming out thing isn't necessary at all. I would never want my child to have to feel like they have to come out about anything, I'd hope they would just feel accepted no matter what, from day 1.

    I understand what Anna went through about her sister.. My best friend from high school is gay... and I didn’t know... it was back in the late 70’s and it was hard for her.... I didn’t find out until later in life.. and we are still great friends... her and I have so much in common.. just she likes girls and I like boys ❤️❤️

    I have watched the Sacconejoly channel for over 7 years, when I first started watching I wanted to be part of the family and now as a 22 year old lesbian I feel exactly the same. My mum is currently growing and learning as well and trust me, that in itself is more validating then you could ever believe. Thank you Anna for understanding that everyone has room to grow and for Jonathon for forever being an incredible ally x

    Anna was so honest in this, it was really good to listen to it. I loved listening to this podcast! I thought it was done in such a great way! Done really respectfully and was very informative. I think it gave a really good perspective on all the topics. I have learnt so much listening to this xx

    Just now saw this awesome video. Jonathan's voice is expressive and free, just like Jonathan, which are the traits I love most about him. I don't think of his voice or him as gay. I'm in my 60s, and my father and I came out to each other and family as gay in my late teens. Eduardo is so fortunate to have you both as his parents. Love watching the Saccone Joly videos. You are the world's best parents and role models. Thank you! 💟🏳️‍🌈

    I don't understand the comments about Jonathan's voice or whatever giving the impression of being gay. I think he is a free spirit who loves to entertain. He is a breath of fresh air for children especially.

    Is he really gay...at this age does he really know?? Let him grow learn and explore. Don't push him to be. Is he really capable of such a thing at his age really????

    Props Riyadh for being so polite and patient here. They get a lot of stuff wrong but he either ignores it for the purpose of the conversation or politely corrects them. Lovely guy

    Great Conversations! As Riyadah said at the end, being open to learning is more important than just accepting societies ingrained homophobia and gender roles.

    What a wonderful first guest. This was the fastest hour. I truly enjoyed this discussion. It would be great to have a live Q & A with him. I hope he returns soon.
