Yep and Eren is also the metaphore of nature itself. Mikasa's strongest quote is « This world is cruel yet it is also beautiful ». When she says so she thinks about Eren caring for her and giving her the scarf. The other main physical feature of Mikasa beside her scarf is her scar, which Eren also gave her. Therefore Eren is the cause of both what's beautiful (scarf) and what's cruel (scar). Trying to say he is good or evil is completely missing the show. Eren is just like the world.

The conversation between Eren and Armin at the end revealed what I think is his true motivation.
In the early seasons, Eren truly believed the Eldians were the last bastion of humanity resisting an apocalyptic enemy. The world outside the walls was empty virgin land ready for those with the audacity to venture outwards.
This justified the sacrifice of thousands of Survey Corps members towards that end.
When Eren realizes that the world outside is inhabited by humans who are hostile and indifferent to their suffering, he is mind-broken. All of the death and suffering was just collateral damage of the geopolitical machinations of the nations outside Paradis.
Eren’s motivation for starting the Rumbling was to create the empty world that Armin showed him in his book.

I'll just leave here my perspective on Eren's story, this comes a lot from the place I was/am in my life, psychologically/spiritually while watching the anime: so the first and most important interpretation I got was that Eren is a representation of Humanity's compulsivity, from the desire to be free and the longing to know more about reality beyond (the walls) to the extremes of violence and hatred, war, genocide.
Eren says he can't change the future, everything happens just the way he sees it. So basically he has no control over his actions and he is nothing but the agonizing witness of them. He's stuck in a paradox where he is both the cause and the consequence of all the "evil", he's both the victim and the monster.
I do feel like we are all like Eren in a way. We are a "consequence" of the past (our family, culture, religion, ideologies, our childhood, History) and at the same time we are the cause of what's gonna happen in the future. We are influenced by the outside and at the same time we our worst enemy, our mind works against us. We seek freedom and we create justifications for all our actions. We make choices and we are somehow the result of other's choices. We can make great things, bad or good.
I see Eren as an "unstoppable" representation of our anger and the "monster" we all have inside, I couldn't help but relate to that in the form of my life, my own compulsiveness, my addictions, my impulses, my behavior, my fears, my anger; like I can never stop, like I can't just try and seek peace, or just stop, find a different way to make real solutions.
    "I can't".
I remember Levi's uncle (can't remember his name) saying that "everyone is a slave to something". If we could decipher the end of the story we would say that the author is showing that humanity is stuck in a cycle of destruction, suffering and death. We are slaves to greed, power and anger. This is human "nature", even if there's love, empathy and grace, war is always the end.
I don't believe that, but I do see this perspective as a reflection of the way we have been cultivating our humanity, and the point in History that we are right now.
All this brings questions about freedom and compulsivity, are we really free? Or are we atill inside the walls? Being guided by our basic instincts, controlled by our fears, guilt, shame and superficial desires, is this living?
Now let me switch things a little bit: are we really stuck? Is it true that we really don't have a choice? Or are we all like Eren who just "keeps moving forward" even though he's killing 80% of humanity, even though war is never gonna stop?
I don't know what we really are and I don't know much. But I do feel like we living in a paradox, we have the "monster", the "hero", the victim and the victor inside us, we can be echoes of the past and agents of the future.
Can we still find beauty in this life? Are we slaves to our impulses and identities? Can we find peace or are we all going to always end up creating more Erens? More genocide? Do we have a choice?
Sometimes, personally I feel like I have no choice about my future and my actions. Sometimes I find that I do have a choice and the power to change things for the better. But I don't know. Right now I feel more like "moving forward" towards destruction and self destruction. Can't help but feel like the mind/ego is the real "problem" and I do feel like there's a solution to humanity, but that's just me. I am a slave to hope.

Except that Eren's character was build to break free and bring peace to the Island.
Until his character get retconed in chapter 139.
Then he become a raging incel who dont even know what he was doing 😅

@@lain5858 if you still believe Eren is "free" you're ignoring the fact that he only did what he did in order to safe his friends. But becoming a monster was not his choice, it was what he felt he had to do. Eren himself said he tried to change what he saw in the future but it always happens the same way. That doesn't sound like freedom to me. BTW I don't think Eren is an "incel", but I'm curious to know why you believe that

    • @fs400ion
      @fs400ion 4 місяці тому +2

@@lain5858 That's exactly what he did. Eren moved forward because when he touched Ymir he suddenly understood why he would do the Rumbling : it was the only way of ending the Titan curse and freeing Ymir. He kept moving forward to that feeling of liberation Ymir felt at the end. Eren was a slave to freedom. He couldn't help but do what was needed to free the poor enslaved Ymir, end the curse, and reduce the risk for his friends to die.
As Mikasa said, this worrld is cruel, yet it's also beautiful. Eren represents this too. Eren has cruel apsects but also beautiful ones. He gave Mikasa the scarf (beautiful) and he gave her her scar (cruel).

I think you may have misunderstood Nietzsche’s take on the idea of the eternal reoccurrence. It was less about history repeating itself indefinitely and it was more about living a life that we could say ‘Yes’ to should the concept be one that governed our universe.
