Broadway, resuming after the pandemic: Oh, uh we're back guys, lol, yes we're still expensive. West End, resuming after the pandemic: Here's a FULLY COSTUMED spectacular that unifies the biggest shows in music and moves the soul, it is outside so the people can see it!
That’s my issue with Broadway, on the plus side it’s home to the creme de la creme of theatre, and musical theatre in particular, but it presents an image of elitism, and attending is something you save up for rather than just nipping along on a whim. That’s why the west end has so much more heart, it’s about the performances not the money, you can see three or four shows in a weekend for less than £100 in London, whilst on Broadway you’re looking at around $100 for the cheapest tickets.
Broadway does Broadway in Bryant Park every year which is the same idea, and that event actually happened days after this. Also by the time they did Broadway in Bryant Park this year, a very small number of the shows had only started to open just over a week prior on September 14th. But most of the shows still haven't even opened. So Broadway in Bryant Park was the shows that were open but also shows that were still in rehearsals.
No way. They made it about them rather than the characters. For that matter, so did the actos playing Jean Valjean- made it about him, like a concert… appealing to the crowd 🤨
@@chrisduffy6043 it is all a matter of opinion. I didn’t think so. At the same time, it is a live concert type setting! Which means there will be more liberties taken throughout their vocals. Also, this performance is promoting the show, so even if they were showing off more, I feel like it’s okay because they are promoting the show! Loved it!!!
As a professional stage manager I feel obligated to say, great mic handoff. Sometimes you have to just get out there and do what you have to do. On point stage crew.
I don't really like them together. The only way I can describe it is toothpaste and orange juice. Odd because it's two of the best voices singing two of the best songs. I'd like each to sing abridged versions of their own songs. They sound AMAZING when they're singing the few lines together.
I was there. Amazing experience. Love how even though his mic was messing up he continued like no problem And the ending when all the Cameron Macintosh shows came on was out of this world!
But why was he so unprofessional when entering the stage by laughing & looking full of himself? The song he was then to sing was undermined by this arrogant swagger.
those saying the first song sucked… is everything okay? that was absolutely PERFECT and the two voices were gorgeous, and then they mixed the voices and it became even more powerful.
I love both their voices, I think they are both incredible, but I think the keyboard was to low in some places, their gorgeous voices didn't match with the background music
@@annie-laurencepaulin3392 I think this is an issue with WEL sometimes, it's very hard for the performers to hear the quieter backing tracks, not to mention usually they are the ones setting the pace and the musicians follow them.
Loved the new take and mash up, the ladies sounded great but it sounded like the production crew was trying to meet a schedule because so many good moments were just rushed through. Valjean was great. He managed to make the accompaniment work for him. And stayed in the moment despite the mic problems. What a pro.
I really loved the entire cast and alongside with other friends, come together to reunited and celebrate the return of the West End in one under big roof for the first time since the whole world is in lockdown. Welcome back West End!! 😍
This was amazing to watch live, we saw the phantom in the background and just thought haha he snuck in he's not ment to be there, and then the ending happen with everyone on stage. Was absolutely breath taken
Imagine if you were watching this video and didn't know about the special cameos. The blink-and-you'll-miss-them glimpses at the Phantom and Mary Popping at 8:44 and 8:59 would be so crazy hahahaha
It was mental actually being there because no one was expecting it and there were just gasps when peiole realised there were the other casts there as well
This is amazing!!! Got me crying from missing being able to watch musicals, being able to travel, being together with people I love watching a performance like that. Thank you to those who made this available online for the rest of us in the world to join you guys on this!
@@Daniel.S.Hypnotist yes! There were quite a lot of people at the rehearsals and it was so good you get to see them and talk to them once they leave the stage.
Ah so cool! What times was it so I can know for next time? We’re you allowed in or did they close it off when they were practicing? And do you mean you waited by stage door to talk to them when they came out? Thanks!
@@Daniel.S.Hypnotist Well, I arrived at Trafalgar Square at around 12ish, and Les Liz was already singing the last minute of "One Day More." but I believe they probably started early since per production, once they rehearsed, they would then leave the stage and go back to the theatre. So, maybe next year, try and get there around 10 or 11 am-ish. Yes, entry is free, and you're allowed to watch every production and take as many photos and videos as you like. Once production for the particular musical has finished, the cast then leaves the stage and go straight to the backstage door. I saw all the cast of Les Miz as they left the backstage door, but I got too shy to approach them since some of them were carrying the huge red flag, and they were headed back to the theatre, but some fans were saying hi as they passed through. I got lucky enough to talk and take a picture with Shan and Rachelle, who played Eponine and Fantine at the Les Miz: The Concert Production, and they were the ones who opened the show. I just saw them at one of the fountains in Trafalgar Square, watching the cast of Mary Poppins rehearsals. So, I grabbed the chance and approached them even though I was nervous, but it was worth it! They were so friendly and lovely.
I am in Canada and our theatre hasn't opened yet. But when the other cast members and cast from other plays took the stage for the final notes I cried tears of joy!

I dont know if anyone mention this but I have to give credits to the sign language translator 7:52 & 8:47 . Waving his hands all around and having the time of his life. But serious question whos part does he play when there are multiple people singing different parts?
I’d imagine in an ensemble number like one day more he’d likely have to go with the track that’s most relevant overall - so probably jvj or javert ,since the majority of the story centres about jvj’s journey - although perhaps he’s just picking up whatever he can ! (Btw I’m not an authority on British sign language,I’m just learning it ! But I’ve noticed with many interpreters it seems to be the most relevant information that is conveyed !!)
that mic couldnt handle the pure awesomeness of that voice! amazing performances
Round of applause for the stage crew with the microphone. hehe
actually it was the host ruthie henshell' quick thinking. she came on and gave him her handheld.
