This feels like the perfect place to drop a Ted Talk about how I felt about Mokuba’s redesign in DSOD. Originally, I hated it because it was so different from his original design: he looked too old, I didn't like his shorter hair, he looked wierd in DSOD's style (Im partial to softer art styles), and the lab coat and suit looked too adult on a character who basically always wore casual kids clothes. But over time, I realized it was the most natural progression for his design to look - he looks older because he IS older, he has more of a family resemblance to Kaiba which is great (srsly, some of those screencaps have him pulling the most Kaiba faces ever), he's doing more significant work for KaibaCorp, so the professional design makes sense, I acclimated to the sharp artstyle, and even the haircut grew on me. Nowadays whenever I depict him older, his design always takes at least some cues from the DSOD design (s1 is still my fave tho).
I understand why so many fans didn't like the Dante redesign. I didn't like it at first too, but after PLAYING the game (which I believe is the one thing most ofthe people who hated the redesign didn't do) I realized that the trailers did this iteration of Dante so dirty, the trailers focused on the "edgy" part of the character, like he is some sort "bad boy" who follows no rules and kicks pupies, but in the game he is just not like that. In fact, he shows empathy and compassion pretty quickly, especially to the girl character (whose name I don't remember right now). He is a little shit pretty much only with the ones who antagonize him.
