The Drowned And The Saved was a great way to wrap up the Governor Shalvoy storyline. Sam Watterson really digs deep into this one and I still love Cutter's talk to Shalvoy. "I'm not Jack McCoy". Epic!!!
Spousal privilege doesn’t prevent one spouse from letting the other spouse testify, it only prevents the state from compelling a spouse to testify against the other.
I thought it protected either party, gave them a reasonable expectation of privacy, regardless of the other spouses choice to testify or not, but I could be wrong for sure
@@midwestnewsgurl you’re sort of there. Spousal privilege does give a married couple the expectation that their private conversations can be kept secret and not be dragged out into the light by the state, but if one of the spouses wants to shine the light on their private conversations they are free to do it.
@@midwestnewsgurlThis is a separate privilege known as the Confidential Marital Communications Privilege. This can be used by one spouse to prevent the other spouse from testify to their conversations while they were married.
Couple of thoughts: 1. McCoy’s “Drowned and Saved” monologue was one of his finest moments on the show. 2. The Shalvoy storyline was up there with the show’s best season-long arcs, up there with Van Buren’s cancer storyline and Schiff’s election arc. 3. Tom Everett Scott and Alison Elliott were brilliant as the Shalvoy and Rita 4. Did the elf keep her tiddies? 😂
"You're such a fool. I had such high hopes for you." "And I had high hopes for you! How could you do this to your wife, your constituents? How could you be so reckless with their trust?!"
I couldn't agree with you more. Sam Waterston...the OG of L&O. I grew up on Jack McCoy for many years and he's absolutely the best character of a long running series...and there will NEVER be another guy like him.
Love the storyline, appreciated what a principled justice system could be no matter how idealized in fiction. But only realization I have is, if this happens in one of the most progressive country in the world, it is saddening for the rest of the globe in similarity. Path of Least Resistance, I doubt any person in public office will follow through what the protagonist did.
McCoy would do anything to make a deal with someone to get what he wants. But not the other way around as long as it benefits him just to avoid indictment of himself. What do you think that is about? I wonder.
As a lawyer friend of mine once told me, to play the political game you have to be willing to sell off parts of your soul. The higher up your get the more you lose. Those who've reached the top...you have to wonder if they're still really human.

They should've kept that part before the video ended.

@@austinfisher186 ok thanks
This is one of the most misunderstood laws going. TV/Cinema is always getting it wrong.

They cut the best part out again. The part when Cutter decides to pull his ace in hold on the governor.
One of Jack McCoy’s best. 👏🏻
😀Which Jack McCoy is that and on which T.V. screen? I don't watch T.V. so I cannot say.
One of Jack McCoy's best moments👍🏻
The governor and his wife seem like a loving and compatible couple. I think they’ll make it to the “death us do part” portion of the marriage vows.😂
That look Lupo gives Bernard at the "Low-calorie diet" comment XD
This was a good episode, thanks I just went and watched the whole thing
McCoy at his best
"YOU OWE ME!!!" Common excuse for the guilty.

I like this cap, much more the ending 😅

Dead Man on Campus became the governor! Good for him.
No, no, Guy Patterson, the drummer, and co founder of the Puget Sound Conservatory of Music
I want full episodes of the original show
They're all available, including this episode on the Peacock streaming app.

Yes sir
She should’ve left him

Yes and No.

Marriage is tough.
I noticed that NYPD BLUE And LAW AND ORDER shows both use the same paper coffee cups...white and blue
Those "We are happy to serve you" cups are everywhere in New York. You can see them in Daredevil and the end of Spider-Man Far From Home.
@andrewli6606 Thank you, Andrew. I have not been to New York City since June 1972. I think probably that they were not in use then .
