In this episode, the headmaster sold out the spot that was supposed to go to Cassie for a bribe from another boy’s family so that he could get into the private school. He was only being paid $60k per year, so he took the bribe under the table in exchange for another kid’s admission into the school. Debra Landon found out about the bribe, and she told the headmaster to disclose his dishonesty and bribe collection to the school board or else she would tell them herself so he killed her.
back in the 80's, private school salaries were low. but away from cities, it included housing + board, so it wasn't that bad in net. also, free tuition for children. I knew one teacher, left a public school for a private school when his children were the right age, then went back. Some who remember college campuses from that era, even good ones, are nothing like the resorts nowadays. One child then went to college, and felt the college was a let down from the private school campus and facilities
Lmao this video leaves out my favorite part where they're with the medical examiner Rodgers: She'd also had an oophorectomy. Lenny: She had her oophers removed?
I can provide a little back story regarding Briscoe's admonishment of the crime scene technician. The dialogue was included as a not so subtle dig of rival forensic dramas, especially the "CSI" franchise. There was another scene that was not included in this clip when Briscoe and Green attended the post mortem and Dr. Rodgers expressed frustration with the crime scene unit because she found the victims purse with identification on the body and could't understand how they could have missed it. Upon hearing this, Briscoe responded: "Those crime scene guys are highly overrated. The problem is, they all think they're cops."
Because he’s not a CSI, he was from the city Medical Examiner’s office, which is independent of any law enforcement agency. It’s their job to examine the body and figure out things like method and time of death. CSU are NYPD. The evidence collection teams are NYPD uniformed officers.
Its brilliant in some sense but I also feel a little sorry for the one being arrested. They find another party guilty and release the big shot but it prob wouldn't matter part of ones image is tarnished.
Reminds me of Stephen Kings 'the outsider' the coach in the book got arrested in front of his entire team and the stadium at the time, ended up coming back to bite the authorities per an assassination.

Usually, the first suspect didn't do it. Especially if they arrest him early in the show. If they solved the crime within 5 minutes, then they did not solve the crime.
SPOILERS It is the Headmaster. It turns out that he's been illegitimately admitting the children of wealthy parents into the school in exchange for bribes, all while expelling more deserving underprivileged students for the tiniest transgressions to make room for the new arrivals. The victim planned to appeal the expulsion of a gifted African-American student, whom the headmaster expelled so the son of a prominent filmmaker could be admitted, and he killed her to keep his secret from getting out.
“I didn’t want a stranger running around my house” lmfao you do realize that biological children are also strangers until you as the parent put in effort to get to know them right?
This Dude's Mad at the school system so he took it out on his colleague That Crazy If that was the case you could have resigned or find another job elsewhere
I got the impression he was also a bigot. His lecturing the detectives about affirmative action tells me he was more than happy to deny Cassie a spot and probably even relished telling the dad she wouldn't really 'fit in' at the school (though no doubt he was careful not to show it). I don't blame the dad for wanting to wring Waters' neck. Even if Waters felt he was underpaid, I don't think he needed much 'persuasion' to screw a potential student who happens to be a minority out of a place at 'his' school.
iirc he was taking a little extra under the table in order to afford his place from a someone connected to organized crime in exchange for getting his kid into the school. the victim was trying to interfere with that arrangement and wouldnt give up and he lost his temper.

"Sold to the man in the silver bracelets." That's why I love Lennie Briscoe!!!
It was skillful how Lennie tricked him into placing himself near the crime scene within the 2-hour window the victim was murdered
That guy is book smart only why the cops are a different type of smart
"Purgatorio?"
"Isn't that a strip club in Queens?"
Good ole Lenny one-liners.

Rodgers and Lennie traded zingers like tennis players volley balls. One of my favorite parts too.
Love the little banter telling the CSI team to stop acting like they're detectives.

Roger Rees (the headmaster) passed in 2015. He was always a scene stealer.
I share my birthday with him! 😊
The Sheriff of Rottingham really went dark
Mervyn had his demons.
Right? He's out of control 😂
Now that I know it was him, I can't get the sheriff of rottingham acting in this episode out of my head
Cracked me Up..LOL
Well when he lost his crone he was lost lol.
"Detective, you know I've never met a hard drive I can't lick."

And I had a dozen Briscoe comebacks in mind, and he disappointed me, lol....

Roger Rees was such a great actor:) Loved him on The West Wing.

Having been educated at Cambridge and the Sorbonne I am, as you know, exceedingly stupid.
I didn't realize Lord John Marbury started as a Prep School Headmaster.
GERALD!!!!
What kind of idiot leaves an easily identifiable murder weapon at the scene? Looked like an expensive, hoity-toity cane to me.
The Detectives, and certainly Lennie, seems to enjoy arresting their murder suspects in the most public way possible!
Verdict was murder 2, and the headmaster only made 60K a year.
I would love to know what Jesse L Martin was really writing on the notepads he was carrying 😂. Ohh hey that guy was Robin Colcord on Cheers.

Truly though, they didn't really have much evidence and any good defense attorney would have gotten that case thrown out.
Not if you had watched the entire episode
The headmaster looks a bit like Richard Hammond.

Why was Briscoe so rude to the CSI guy?
The headmaster is right about affirmative action.
Dated episode. Sorry, Detective Greene, the US Supreme Court outlawed affirmative action. LOL.
Uh, no, it didn't. What it did do was made AA not a factor for college and university admissions.
