- The G Wagon is an SUV that had become a status symbol. This Mercedes AMG G63 takes it to the next level to compete with the Cadillac Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, Jeep Wagoneer and BMW X7. On the outside you will find the distinct body lines of the G-Series, AMG wheels, brush guard, full LED lighting and side exit exhausts. On the inside you will be greeted to a full leather interior, two 12.3in digital displays, and dark wood finishes. Under the hood is a 4.0L Bi-Turbo V8 that produces 577HP & mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2021 Mercedes AMG G63 the KING of performance luxury SUVs?

What I like the most about this G63 is how the doors sound when you close them.
They all sound the same when you close them
So satisfying 🔥
The engineers spent time to make sure it sounded like a shotgun when it shut. I heard that somewhere idk if it’s true or not. It sure as shit feels great to open and close tho lol

@@freshoftheoven965 there’s no 2022 V8 for US market. 2021 might be the last V8 for the G therefore the market adjustment.
I'd love to see someone take one of these off road to see how much of the original g wagons spirit is still in it

Completely satisfying. Never liked a 3-row design, so this would be my purchase. Not a fan of infotainment of any sort, but not being a touch screen is weird. This just looks right; SUV's should look boxy. Thank for this, Joe. Thanks for all you do, Lori. Great video!

@@RaitisRides Hey quick question how does that G wagon pass inspection with the exhaust not being behind the cab I thought the exhaust exit has to be behind the cab in order to pass a state inspection.

I think my 2022 New’s Year’s resolution is to buy one of these. The Gs are just a cut above when it comes to luxury SUV. I love the 2022 Grand Wagoneers, but one cannot deny that this Mercedes (especially the AMG) is just amazing.

Great review as usual and love the ride! Even better is the SCHAWE outfitted G63 which is an absolute BEAST! Carbon fiber throughout, Lamborghini leather interior, and of course soft closing doors!

The G Wagon body style never change. Only the headlights front grill and interior that changed. The G Wagon is the only Mercedes line up that I truly admire. It never gets old. Joe can the exhaust spits out flames 🔥?? That would be awsome

Thanks so much for the good review. In my opinion the gwagon has no competition. Looking at having both on road and off road exceptional performance. But I would prefer the G400d .its a work horse.good fuel economy and slightly higher ground clearance and riding on off road 18 inch.
When they first came out w the G wagon I was in love. So u know I love love this ❤️ I hope to be a owner soon.

I started googling the G63 when my son bought one in the UK, admittedly 2 years old, he picked it up today. I knew about the G wagon in vague terms as an expensive 4x4 but it seems a stunning vehicle, really looking forward to seeing and hearing it. Our boring Tucson will hide away when they visit!

Loved this video. Thank you for the additional tidbits. Never knew the difference between bi-turbo and twin turbo, now I know thanks to my friend Joe Raiti, bless you. Random question: do the rear windows go all the way down? I used to own a 2009 Yukon and the rear windows didn’t go all the way down due to the shape of the rear doors (unlike the XL, or the expedition which had a longer wheelbase back, they fixed it with the last generation). Also another fun fact, the rear wiper got moved to the top with the redesign in 2014 btw. Sorry for this last part in advance, repeat after me: SEEG-NOLLS 😉

I would take X6M comp or Turbo GT for the product itself. But G63 is the dreamcar.
Not only for the iconic design but also for the image of owning it.
In my country teenagers with rich father buy Lambo/Ferrari, rich people who don't know much about cars buy RR/Maybach/Bentley, rich car enthusiasts buy E63s/M5/GT3, celebrities buy 911/SLS or luxury vans.
And every one of them buys G63s.😂
The AMG G Wagon is the king of asphalt beasts. They did a phenomenal job inside and out.

this is exquisite inside and out and this commands attention when driving, but for 171K and no touchscreen and a manuel roof is killing the truck and i would like 2 tv monitors in the back

Yes, these are beautiful SUV's. Unfortunately, due to current market conditions, they are now in the mid $ 300,000 price range. I'd take a Jeep Grand Wagoneer and pocket the extra 200 grand.

Very interesting car and very good review. The ride and maintenance on the older vehicles was awful. I hear people talk about the new steering and ride quality, however, no one can give me a relevant compassion in ride quality. I have owned S Class, E Class, M Class, GL Class, etc.... is the ride quality, comfort and space on par with any of these vehicles?

The G-Wagen strongly reminds me of a upper-class Jeep Wrangler,minus the seven-slot grill and the removable panels. While the Grand Waggoneer has a more refined and elegant look to her,the G-Wagen is unapologetically old-school military in many aspects,inside and out.
What's really remarkable is that the AMG G-Wagen is apparently equally at home touring Yellowstone and parked near the best restaurant in town,just from looks alone.

Great car for versatility and offroading especially in Africa/Middle East/eastern Europe and still having luxury.
What i wish is they would update the mbux (looks very outdated compared to GLE) and add the high end 3d sound system and other luxury features and is outrageous at the price point.
I see several G clases almost every day I'm in Tampa.
I got to sit in one of these at a auto show it was very nice but I like the GLS more
