Canning Strawberry Pancake Syrup

- Here's how I canned strawberry pancake syrup. The USDA recipe is far better than the Ball Book one. It only uses strawberry juice and sugar whereas the Ball recipe adds water to the juice and uses sugar and corn syrup, resulting in a more watery, less tasty syrup.

You are one busy and informative woman. I can hardly keep up with your videos, let alone duplicating all of the things you do.
Great great video and eveeytime you said, "I hope that makes sense" you totally did and as someone who has been canning for years you actually explained it in a way that I wish someone would have explained it to me years ago.
I just wanted to say that this was a very well made video. Every time I was thinking of a question you provided the answer! The timing of the video was very good, no dead space or repetition. I really liked the recipe/instructions but I especially like how the video was put together. Thanks for taking the time to do it!
I *HAVE* to make this soon! Not just me, but my daughter will LOVE THIS!
Thank you for explaining exactly why it is important to start with hot ingredients. That really helps me to remember to do something, when I understand why!
Great tip on telling if the jar sealed or not. As always, wonderful video.
You make everything look so simple. If I tried this I'd have broken bottles all over the place. Our strawberries are doing pretty good, theres just not a lot of plants. My wife loves the strawberry syrup on waffles. I'll see how many berries we can round up, and if necessary, buy enough to make a run. As always....it helps. :-)
Made strawberry rhubarb jam the other day then found a recipe for strawberry syrup in my home canning book. Thankfully I stumbled onto your video b4 I proceeded w/that recipe which added water. SO SO glad I found your video and linked recipe!! I doubled recipe then bottled in continuous thread 10 oz bottles per your direction. I don't have a food mill like yours so I simmered my fruit then strained thru a muslin lined colander. Thanks for sharing your video as I've never canned using anything other than standard jars, lids and rings. Follow the directions and your tutorial for easy peasy, perfect results!! This is a wonderfully tasty, perfect mouth feel syrup - just yummy!!
I pureed 9 cups of strawberries in my ninja, and only added 6 cups of sugar. My kids prefer it with less sugar, it's very sweet and you can really taste the strawberries.
Do you add lemon juice to it?
I love when you do these cooking videos!! Please keep more comming. I watched your entire dehydrator series and have been deydrating every day for over a month now :-)!! I get inspired everytime I watch these cooking instruction videos.
I just planted strawberries..hopefully this time next year I will be able to make this!
well, it's been 6 years, did you make it?
Thank you so much! I like seeing how people can items and what types of jars they use. The Container Store has canning jars from France and Germany. The German ones have a "juice" jar as well and this gives me a reason to use them. Thanks!
out standing job love it no more buying Syrup from the store just get more sugar and grow my own strawberry's thanks again god bless you thanks again keep up the the grate work on here wish you luck on more ideas
This stuff is sooo good that I've been making blueberry waffles and we have been eating this up. It will be fantastic on ice cream too. It looks like I'll be making a couple more batches of it while we still have good strawberries. The good part is it is so easy to make and it does not take all day. My daughter said she would rather me make this than jam!
I really appreciate how you explain things.
Kent
You're a wonderful teacher! Thanks so much for the very informative and useful videos! God Bless you and yours!
use that pulp for bread recipes or freeze till you want to use it. do not waste pulp, it is good fiber.
this is another good video. i made some blueberry and some strawberry syrup. i used 1/2 sugar and 1/2 honey and last years frozen fruit. it all worked out well. i put some of the skimmed off foam on a piece of store bought pound cake(blah) and i may have a new favorite.
thanks for the insights. it does help!
OKAY, I let my daughter watch this video and she turned to me and said, "Mom, I know what we will be doing this weekend!"
The things you get me into! : )
that looks really yummie... bet your kitchen smelled great!
i always wondered about other types of bottles n jars to can in thanks
Great video. Did you have the bottles on anything while in the stock pot?
I used your recipe for this & it turned out beautifully!!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!! :}
wonderful lesson :) I really want to make some of this wonderful syrup
I'm going to see if Cincinnati Container's price are anywhere close to Fillmore - If you buy a certain amount they will deliver - and you get a great price break if you buy like $200 worth of jars - I buy gallon and others all at the same time to see what price breaks I get . . . thanks for the great work you do!
Have to tell you that I pureed the cleaned strawberries then squeezed the puree though a cotton cloth & I have to tell you that I ended up with literally no pulp & only seeds left in the cloth...Pure strawberry syrup :} YAY
The syrup looks great, can't wait to try,. I have a question, which lid is more practical for canning, Is the metal more practical for canning and can you reuse them or do you use once then throw away like you do for the mason jars.
Thanks in advance
June
Can't wait to make. How many strawberries did you start out with to make 8 cups juice.
I can just taste this on vanilla ice cream!
Wow, thank you so much, that was a great video, very informative, clear and easy to see and hear. I'm new to canning, so far just have done jam. I'd like to try syrup and some vegetables, too. :) I like to give them as gifts at Christmas.
Thank you for this video! Such great advice. I'm about to can my first round of woozies
I just made this today and my family loves it! I
thank you for telling us about the bottles they are perfect, :)
I love your videos
Could you add a tiny smidge of butter to the mixture, to reduce foaming-much like when we make jam? Also, I'm going to be making this with blackberries(and then strawberries later), but I'm trying to figure out how many berries I'll need to get 8cups of juice. I assume the ratio of fruit juice to sugar is 1c juice to 1.5c sugar? Have to say that I look forward to your videos over all my other subscriptions. You have the neatest ideas! lol
What kind of lids are you using? Fillmore does not have go-ahead 28-400 go-ahead. Thank you.
I still think we can find another use for that strawberry pulp. I will make this either today or Friday. I may freeze and use the pulp for smoothies. If it is blended like crazy in the blender that may work fine. There is a bunch of nutrients in those little seeds!
Okay, I'm going to make this. Where do I get the recipe? Is it on the web or do I need to purchase a book? This looks wonderful.
Could you share with us the make of your strainer and where you purchased it. Thanks so very much.
hi! great videos. do you have a recipe for regular homemade pancake syrup? thanks
Thank you so much for sharing this. I have been wondering about these jars for some time now. I looked at the jars on the website and want to know if the lids came with them or do you order them separately? Down here in Georgia, these same bottles are used for the real homemade cane syrup. Also, the Mennonites use them for honey and salad dressing. Thanks a million for doing the video!
Never mind about my last question. I found the recipe. I am not sure why when I looked the first time it wasn't in the description box. I've printed it and I'm on my way! What did you do with the strawberry pulp? I wonder if that could go into muffins or into a smoothie. Just a thought. Great video!
I always try to avoid adding water to stuff like this cuz it dilutes flavor. Thanks for the vid and the links cuz I make my own hot sauce and fruit syrups and would like to get these jars and lids :)
On the Fillmore Container site they have several kinds of bottle tops, is the one you used the "white metal plastisol lids"?
Great info, thanks!
Great video!
Blessings ❤
Do you think I could just use my stovetop juicer to get to the strawberry juice rather than straining? Or would it be too thin?
Perfect to use on your waffle recipe. Thanks so much.
I find the easiest way to make syrup is to not fallow the directions when making jelly--makes syrup every time (granted I wasn't trying to make syrup.....) :) This is neat! Thanks.
And before I go through all this work and expense I need to know if I can bottle using these caps. I bought 2 cases of these bottles which are great for many uses but when I got home I realized the caps might not be what you use so now I am confused and apprehensive about starting. I have 48 pints of berries so syrup is a definite too
Nice to see you again. Useful vid as usual.
Hope all is good. ( Yes.made perfect sense) LOL! :-)
I know this is an old video, but can you tell me if the lids can be reused for canning again?
Do you need to refrigerate it after you break the seal to use it or can you store in cabinet ?
Refrigerate after opening, same as if it was store bought.
imstillworkin Thanks so much. I just made my first batch of Blueberry as gifts in my shop . Looks good 😋. Blackberry is next . Love ❤️ your videos 😊.
Beautiful. Both you and the syrup. :o)
Where are you obtaining your bottles? Thanks for the wonderful recipe!
Susann Minall She gets them at FillmoreContainer.com. There's a link in the box above. A dozen of the bottles are $5.82 and the lids are .10 each. It's a good deal if you live on the east coast. Not so much if you live out west. A dozen bottles and lids to me are less than $7.00 but shipping is $18.00 bringing cost to over $2.00 per bottle.
Which lids are she using? Fillmore does not recommend water bathing the lids. So are there other lids? Thanks
Where did you get your food mill you used to process the strawberries?
Morgan Hoven Amazon
Thank you!!!
Hey Sue, I Need your help. S might have to send 2 comments to fit all of this. I bought small glass wine bottles cause these bottles you use would cost me a fortune for s/h. They have screw caps like yours but have that round cardboardy liner inside. Can I still safely can like you do? I want to make blueberry syrup (lots of it)
is it okay to use this method to can other homemade drinks?
I called the company and they said they don't recommend water bath. They told me the hot product will seal them. Would it be safe not to water bath?
Hot product will seal jars/bottles but it won't kill germs present on jars/bottles. Only a boiling product would do that and once something comes out of the pot, it's no longer boiling. I love that company but they aren't canning experts. I never had a problem water bathing those bottles.
So you water bath with the white or black palatial lids? Does it matter. The bottles are find the lids I'm concerned with. Thanks for your help.
Can you just use store bought juice
Omg yummy!
can you can just regular homemade syrup?...thank you.
that's what I was wondering to. I raised sugar beets in my garden, shredded them, cooked them down to, well I gave up trying to get sugar. Thought I'd try for syrup. So now I need to know IF I can process it into small jars for long term storage? Just plane ol sugar beet juice. Do you know what to do?
Do you think can work for all berries?
for how long we can keep the syrup ???
Can you make and can a pecan syrup? God bless.
Debbie Holland Also is it possible to make a diabetic version and how?
Can't you just juice the strawberries through a juicer?
I did.
❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for the video!!
Sorry about this but I still cant figure how to send a p.m. off my ipad. I would not have done it like this but I really need YOUR help so no one else will do
Where can I find the recipe?
nchfp.uga.edu/how/can_02/berry_syrup.html
12 cups of sugar ??
Surprise! Syrup is melted sugar.
what 12 cups of sugar
Oops! I think they are Italian, not German, But they are still neat!
Looks more like bottles to me
Blessings ❤️
