My heartfelt Condolences to the people in Spain so sad to see this devastating weather conditiones.. Stay strong everyone.. greetings from Skandinavia 💞✌️💞
Thoughts with the people of Spain our town of Los Alcazeres was hit at least twice since my retired mum has gone over regularly most recently 2022. The streets were filled with brown water for a couple of days following a crazy thunderstorm but this is on another level ABSOLUTELY heartbreaking. ❤ Espana
This is absolutely heartbreaking to hear about the devastating flash floods in Spain. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by this tragedy. It's times like these when emergency services truly become heroes, risking their lives to rescue those in need. Let's all come together to support the people of Valencia and the other affected regions during this difficult time. Stay strong, Spain ❤
Actually, it was. The warning had been out for a week. It’s the regional government of Valencia that failed to act, alert the population and decree the closure of all businesses for the day.
In case anyone is wondering. The southeast of Spain has a Mediterranean climate, and is characterised by long dry periods and flash floods from time to time. Once every few years is very common. These torrential rains can be more or less violent, so this has been happening literally forever in the region. The difference is that this time it was one of the worst in decades, but it is not a rare weather phenomenon in the region. In Spain they are called "Danas". The real estate companies have been building in ravines and vagoadas which are the natural channel for these torrents of water. Until now no one cared because events like this happen once every thirty or fifty years, but eventually this is what happens because of building in flood risk zones.
@@NapoleonGelignite Spain is a very mountainous country. Most of the region are hills, so many town are built near rivers. Seriously, its a typical problem here, many of the new buildings are just bad planning
Yes. God surely could, and I'm sure would want to, but will not, cause a devastating flood anymore. Something worse is coming for our lack of wisdom regards to the environment and lack of compassion towards bulls and animal kingdom.
In Florida 23 people died and in Valencia around 90 and counting when the territory is not as big. The Valencia's authorities failed to tell people to stay home when they were already adviced by the meteorology national agency.

From the street interviews in the piece, it seems like ppl didnt understand what a flash flood is despite the warnings, ie. that it happens suddenly, not like usual flooding.
To give an example: Rajasthan is years ahead of European countries when it comes to a distributed and well integrated concept of slowing down, storing and infiltrating large amounts of rain water that falls during the monsoon season. Droughts and extreme rainfalls are one and the same challenge. Watershed management is one of the key fields where we can improve our climate resilience.
Being in an area that experiences a monsoon season for over 1000 years, like the cities and people of Rajasthan has, and you would be expected to be years ahead of dry desert Spain in dealing with monsoon rains, right? Or did they just realize they were getting rained on in 1999 and have pursued enlightened civil engineering projects in the modern era to accommodate the seasonal monsoon?
I did not know that but Rajasthan is mainly flat and now imagine 400 litres per sq meter coming downhill top speed from the mountains... You would need to erase all human construction and re-start from zero to make a smart and efficient rainwater distribution
@@lazurusknight2724 They have experience to draw upon, but a few decades ago the drought-stricken land was only used for a single crop cycle, laying barren while the population had to migrate to cities for work. Do watch "Creating an Oasis: How a Rajasthan village is reviving traditional water management practices | CEEW" for a more thorough view. @@sinsubterfugios2637 Many people in Europe think that flood management is a permanent allocation of space to infrastructure. Much of the flooding that happens in valleys and downstream however has a chance of being addressed by slowing down the water such that it takes a few days to a week to make its way into rivers. This means that fields may be subjected to temporary flooding, and that permitting in former flood plains needs to be scaled back in relevant places. The take-away from the report is that people in Valencia have known extreme rain events, so there is imo now a serious incentive to effect change towards building climate resilience.

Flash floods does NOT help against droughts. Hard ground does not intake water and the flood washes most of the water away. Like here 500mm of rain in few hours. And most runs away from the area. Almost no ground water is develooed by these events. If same amount of rain would come in few months most of it would remain in the area, because the soil would take more rain and there would be green vegetation. This type of extreme rain is NOT helping, not even for drought. And you will also lose top soil due to runoff that the currents make. And that is harmful for all vegetation.
Did you not think there would be consequences for pumping c02 into the atmosphere ten times faster than the petm extinction event? Your “weather manipulation “ is just getting started, grab some popcorn and enjoy the show
Should we be asking the question as to what is causing these devastating flood rains that are occurring worldwide more often? There are some who are pointing their finger at the construction of large Solar Panel farms as the cause of sudden heavy flood rains. It seems the larger they are building the massive solar farms the more heavy torrential rain and floods are occurring more often. The majority of scientists are saying no, solar panel farms are not the cause of flood rains. However, some scientists believe that large solar panel farms can change the molecules in the air above the solar panels and the air heats up and rises above cloud cover and increases moisture and instability in the atmosphere. Maybe not, but what is causing these heavy flood rains that are occurring worldwide more often?
