My husband and I are very busy people. He is a fire chief and I am a teacher. We have a middle schooler and a college age child. Why are you the only show we sit and watch? Because you are normal and friendly and genuine. In a world of fake, we appreciate your work ethic and smiles. Yay you!! Give Leo a smooch from this Colorado family.

I am a retired teacher and share your expressed fondness of these vids...especially the genuineness of them. (i long for that as well in these days and this world we are living in). There are two others i watch for same reason. and not every vid but when i want some real good viewing. One is Isabel, who was a yoga teacher and then built her own tiny home, a garden big enough to feed a whole town, did most of her home all by herself...then built an addition. She weaves sweaters and blankets from wool, and sews/makes her own clothes, swims and bathes in the river even in winter, sings and writes music, cooks and bakes the healthiest, most delicious appealing meals i have ever seen, and published a recipe book , when all her audience asked for it; occasionally travels off property and to other countries or other places in this one (U.S). Is just wholesome and incredibly creative, brilliant , and lofty. Extremely gorgeous scenes and events in nature...mountains, flower beds, rivers and more, and consistently inspires others to go beyond their perceived abilities to do things they think they cannot.. The viewers are pretty quality folks too. I think Trent and Allie would love her too but not sure since she is much younger (tho so mature in her thinking) . ..and is ever so interesting to where viewers (and myself) are surprised at how much we are learning from her , just by watching all the things she does and how she gets them done, when seem impossible....Her vids are a delight to the senses with the nature scenes. Her name is Isabel Paige in case you might want to check her out. Thanks for your comment too which i really appreciated seeing /reading.

Definitely consider building drawers and hanging space into the walls as well to use that space on the sides of the garage apartment. It will also help to keep some of the cold out. I agree tankless water heater is the way to go - we love ours! You should consider using a convection/microwave combo for the space, you never know when you might have to stay there for some reason.

As a mold expert, I just really want to emphasize the importance of prioritizing building the drain that Trent was talking about the other day so that water doesn't pool against the back wall, before the ground freezes! You really don't want to have to wait until next spring to do that cause you could get some major water intrusion issues in the meantime. You guys are doing great and moving at such a fast past!

    • @kevinfisher1345

I agree with Gabrielle about the installation of a curtain drain would be so important. The purpose of the curtain is stop pervasive moisture the drain being in the ground deep enough to deal with the water that is flowing through the springs into the area currently under and percolating through the ground behind your structure. Install the curtain drain and make it drain away from the structures

To save space you should see if you can insert the fridge and microwave and thing into cubbies in the attic space so they aren't taking up floor space. Once the bathroom is in in sure it's going to start feeling small. So utilizing the attic space for storage and shelving and whatever you can will probably make a huge difference.

Might I make a suggestion for your hot water situation for the garage apartment. To avoid the need for space, you can purchase a tankless water heater for the bathroom and for the kitchenette. You can get one separate one for each room or one for both. There are tankless water heaters for cold climates.

Our son has his garage hot water heater in the attic crawl space which is legal in our State.
Also just built there small Closet and Linen Closet into the wall between the studs of the attic section.
Also did the same inset with their Apt Frig and Microwave...just insulated the wall behind and each side.
Saved space and had everything out of the way.
All open floor space was for the limited furniture and mounted the TV on the wall with a swing out holder. Could watch from the bed or turn towards the sitting area. Used a space between 2 comfortable chars to put a small table so as to sit drinks and things and yest to be able to eat off if needed.
    It is simple but elegant.
Don't forget a permanent or portable stool in the shower. They have one that is stored in the bottom of the linen closet.

Welcome back Anna. I can tell Leo loves you. The garage is looking wonderful that is going to be a nice guest house. You should put a small deck up there in the back. So you can sit out there and drink your coffee. I imagine y'all will be staying up there quite a bit. It's nice to have a change every now and then. Even if it is in your the yard. I love watching Trent and Brandon work together they are a great team. You can tell they're the best of friends. Alley you look great and that little Leo just gets cuter every video. Have a great weekend. See y'all on Monday

Oh wow, this garage space is looking so amazing, so glad that Dana is back that is so awesome. Leo is just so adorable and a very mobile little guy. I am loving that it is getting more and more complete. that caterpillar was so cute, sometimes they are a little scary but this one was adorable. I love that things are moving along great, it is finally getting a little cooler here in Idaho, it has been extremely hot. I guess fall is on it's way. I hope that you have a great weekend coming up this was a really fun video to watch. Sending love and hugs, bye for now. 😂🤗💜💜💜

I’m trying to wrap my mind around how my Dad and Ex worked in housing before nail guns. I remember them talking about rolling nails and nailing themselves off roofs😳. I’m nervous watching Trent stand too close to the edge.
I’ve missed a few videos and can’t believe how much Leo has grown. He’s a handsome lil man.
    Love you guys,

The van is going to be so awesome can’t wait to see it finished. BTW, Leo grabs for the wires while Allie was holding him and she moved away. But Leo just took his other arm and grabbed the wire! Which of course Ali took away from his grasp. My point is, Leo is quite advanced and his physical skills and mental skills. He is a young baby still as we know! It does appear he has some real skills going on❤❤❤❤❤❤ Kinda like his parents do🎉🤩👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

@Trent & Allie I'm sure you already have a plan for an addition on your house. I just wanted to share my thoughts. Where the window is between the pantry and the basement door would be a perfect spot for a hallway to two bedrooms. One to the left and one to the right. Leo's room and a office/guest room. Everything is looking great and coming together. High five to you all!

A very small tankless water heater might make a lot of sense in the garage. It will only be used occasionally, so there is no need to heat and maintain a large volume of hot water. A small water heater would only work for one or two people to shower. But if you have guests there may be more people than that using the space. I think tankless makes sense for a place that will have occupancies of either 0 or 2+.

@@Jeff-jg7jh nope. Look up on demand water heaters. There are different sizes depending on the use ( 2 people shower or bath, washer use, dishwasher, etc). Some use propane, or electric, or multi fuel.... They are nice as small footprint/size as no storage tank needed. Can also use 2, one for kitchen, one for bath etc. Some are ok to be inside, kthers need to be mounted outside.
      I hope this info helps.

Are you going to put dormers on the side of the garage roof? I go crazy when there are not windows facing all sides…. You could do one a window and one a balcony an outdoor space would be cool…plus it would use some of that lost space on the side. Im sure you get all sorts of advice… but I figure ideas are too late once it’s done. 😂 Either way it looks fantastic and going so fast…. Well at least on video..ha ha!

That living space will be great when finished. You could put a toaster oven in as well because microwave's are mainly good for reheating. If you ever rent the space then a tenant could cook more things and they are pretty compact these days. The ladder work was nerve wracking for sure. Glad you and Brandon are safe. Leo's personality is just shining through these days and he's growing like a weed.

I think your layout is really nice that you're planning for however I would recommend keeping all of your drains and water supplies as close to one another as possible. Much easier to keep a subset insulated protected and vented then it is to do it several times and over a larger space
