I have flown radio control gliders in competition, and ridden in full scale gliders. Soaring is magic, and this video made me cry tears of joy. Thanks for producing this wonderful look at your sport.
Reminds me of the times , 65 years ago , when my Dad would let me sit in his lap in the V-tail Bonanza and let me pull back on the ''stick'' to a near-stall , then push it back and let me ''get'' weight-less for a few seconds.....aw the memories !

What a well done video and in what must be one of the best and most beautiful settings! Thank you for not going crazy with the music... too many postets today tjink they are some kind of DJ and use the most irritating and horrid music. This was as beautiful and perfect a vid as I've seen, so thank you, thank you, thank you! Whild I do not fly gliders, I do have an ultralight here in the US, a Kolb Firefly, so I do understand the feelings involved. If we had a site that was half as comparable I would have a glider as well but where I live it's nearly flat as a table top! Regards, jc

Very interesting! I bet they climb in the lightest lift. I would try that! I admit I would miss the 40:1 glide ratio, but just like in SCUBA diving...Free Diving is great too. (Glasflugel H-301 Libelle driver).

All up with a box to transport it ~ $50K? Next you're going to need someone to drive for you if you're going to venture out XC. That's usually an all day affair for the driver. I flew flex wings for years, thank God for my wife's patience. Most don't fly XC and confine themselves to flying locally, still needing a driver (foot launch) or paying for tows. Flying the same spot within reach of your LZ gets old fast, at least for some. Especially if you have the performance of a SWIFT. Let's face it, soaring is a pricey and logistically challenging proposition. Few, as demonstrated by the very small % of the public who do this, agree to pay that price.
Is this the competition, where they lunched 120 planes in 73 minutes? You may start at $3000 to $4000 for an old wing, not useable for competition (old sail) but good for flying. exxtacy, ATOS-5, ... old swift; You are ending with 20$ to 50$ per lunch (you'll need to get to the site, check, towing, something to eat, hotel room over night, ...) and fixed costs about 400$/year of owning (100$ insurance, 100$ check, 100$ wear, $$ for storage space). XC is an other story as you need time, time and more time (I'm stuck with the local license, as I don't get enogh fligth time for the XC-license -- only flexed wing for storage space).

I've been around aviation for more than a few decades. This is the most beautiful video I've seen and I'm not a glider pilor.

you'r right, it's able to climb in the smallest and week lifts, like a bird; as a result it's seldom we have to land out :-)
Great video... please turn down the volume of the music... Thanks for posting
Didn't have to understand the language to understand what they were saying! As a powered pilot I thought this was beautiful!

As long as you do not spend money on women, you to may be able to afford flying.
