    Great video! I'll be breaking into mine this weekend. Hopefully it just needs a new lamp that's in the way but i know it will also need a good cleaning. It ran great for 7 years (4200hrs) before it started getting issues

    I just had to deal with a similar problem with my 143x. I installed a new lamp assembly and after about 10-15 seconds the picture would loose fidelity and flicker out of control until the projector would shut down and spit out a lamp error. I found for the color wheel to work correctly I had to transfer just the new bulb from the replacement lamp into the original removable mettle lamp assembly but ever since it has worked perfectly. My guess is the after market replacement didn’t line up exactly. Now a thorough cleaning, maintenance, and refurbishment is always a good idea, but sometimes with these projectors the solution can be… unexpected and strange. I found with the replacement lamp the projector still worked in bright and vivid mode with the unit set to eco, but the more accurate the color settings were the more it would freak out

    Hello I just messaged you on the 141x video. I had some black sooty stuff on my sensor too. Also I should say the projector doesn't turn on now. It just has the warning blink.
    Thanks.

    Hey Frank, great video. I have a simular problem with mine. It's just over 2 years old with 245 hr done on the lamp, in a none smoking, none dusty enviroment (spare room/movie room). So the projector starts up with lamp coming on, then the fan kicks in, I then manage to get the menu up to check test pattern with the colours looking fine BUT It's still shutting down, showing red flashing light to power and a solid red light on the lamp. I've cleaned the little amount of dust off the fan and unit which was there( hardly any really) and have cleaned the colour wheel censor as you shown. STILL have the problem though. I'm sure the lamp must be good for a few thousand hours or are they prone to failing anyway? (Lamp is the manufactured one sent with the brand new projector). My projector is ceiling fixed, so it never moves around. I should also add, prior to this shut down fault, whilst watching my last two movies, I noticed drop of colour on the screen and then came back to normal again. This happened on and off and with the first movie I thought it could be the dvd(charity shop find) but then the second dvd did the same before shutting itself down( the projector that is).Any suggestions Frank? Many thanks Rob H

      Hi Rob, I wonder if its the sticker on the color wheel starting to fall off. The lamp could theoretically fail early. Its rare but it does happen. But I would check the index mark on the color wheel. I have a few videos on the HD26 with that issue. The insides are pretty similar. I would check that first. Then if it looks okay, I would try another lamp assembly. Buy it from a reputable seller because the lens on the front has to have the proper IR/UV coating. Amazon lamps tens to skip that part and cause more problems than they solve. If that doesn't solve it, then I would suspect a more involved(and likely electronic) problem.

      @@FixitFrank Hey Frank, thanks for the reply. I've now checked and the colour wheel marker and it is intact. One of your other videos shows leaving the lamp unplugged, and as like the video, the colour wheel comes on fine and then switches off when the fan comes on and repeats this over and over. So! I'm now, as you said, thinking it's a dodgy lamp( angry after only 144 hrs). My lamp and housing is.... SP.7AZ01GC01, but I wondered to keep the price down, is there a lamp only code without having to purchase a housing assembly for it? Thanks Rob

      Otherwise I have a video on a GT1080 where I take the optics out. The GT1080 is basically the same thing. ua-cam.com/video/QUE8UA8d92I/v-deo.html You are going to want to skip around a bit but I think this will give you enough info. hello, very good video, a query I have an HD142x, the issue is as follows, I notice that it heats up a lot and the fan does not make noise, the temperature problem light does not come on or anything. My question is, what temperature does it have to have? and the fan makes a lot of noise?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 роки тому +1

      The fan can be very quiet. It is monitored for it's speed and if it stops rotating, the temperature problem light will ignite. The temperature light will also ignite if the internal temperature exceeds 170c (I may be incorrect on the exact temperature, but it is quite high).
      If you are not experiencing any shut down problems I think you're okay.
      Projectors run pretty hot. Exhaust air can be 90c.
      If you have shut down problems and no temperature warning, you have a different issue. Thanks for commenting!

    Great tutorial on fixing my Optoma, i had en still have issues with the color wheel, the tape desingrated, replaced it with a small piece of isolation tape, which is thicker. It worked for a few minutes but then a horrible sound from the wheel, guess the tape came loose. Is the tape necesarry? can i just remove it and put it together without the tape?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  6 місяців тому +1

      Tape is critical. It's how the index point is found. Otherwise the projector won't know what color you need. I had heard of people using flat black acrylic paint pens. It must be black and heat resistant. Black kapton tape would work great

      Hey man 😁! Yeah I hear you. I give these a pass because they don't seem to get like this until they are older. I consider them the last great Optoma series. The UHD series is awful.
      No InFocus at the moment. I don't see many of those. I think they were more common in offices. Believe it or not they are essentially the same as these. I think Coretronic was the oem company for the same era. Or whoever made ViewSonic. They seem to share a lot of lamps.

    Hey, we just changed The lamp, as it was blowing out the light colors. The issue persists still, so now we are a bit stuck. Whites and yellows come out pixelated, in lack of a better description. Dark skin looks normal on the screen, but white complexion looks really blown out, and goes white and light yellow in the highlights. Not sure I explained this well…

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 роки тому

      Do the greens look purple at all? Also is the lamp of decent quality? I see a lot of lamps from amazon causing more problems than they fix. Your description makes me think a color wheel issue of some sort. but the cause of the issue might be a sub par quality lamp.

    Great video! Gonna have to clean my HD142x too. Mine sits outside under a cover patio and it might be a little dusty by now. How would you say the picture quality of this HD 142x compares to the Digital Projection Dvision 30 DLP projector?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 роки тому +1

      It depends which Dvision 30.
      There are 3 version if I recall correctly. I suspect the Digital Projection will look better either way. I have a Dvision30 XL(7000 lumen model) that looks amazing but I will say tuning the colors was a lot more work than I expected. Also you need 2 lamps per projector in the dvision. Those lamps use timer modules so you cannot just replace the bare bulb. I think for outside, the 142x would be a better option.

    Hello, just watched your video, I need help with troubleshooting my lamp problem. I changed the lamp in my Optoma HD142X projector, and it worked just fine for two days, afterwards it began flickering. This is the first time this has happened, so I am lost. Now my projector shuts down after about 10 minutes and then the lamp error light comes on. I spoke with a technician at Optoma Corp. and a technician from where I purchased the lamp (Pureland Supply). Optoma said I need an original lamp, but the information that I got from them would not allow me to purchase a lamp, which cost an arm and a leg. I sent Pureland Supply a video and the technician said that it was the color wheel. Can you help me?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  7 місяців тому

      Hello! If the color is flickering before it shut down, that is almost certainly color wheel related. Now if the wheel is bad or if it's just dirty, it's hard to say. For what its worth, I do repairs for Pureland so I am familiar with their products. The lamp they sell for the Optoma is as good as the OEM. Optoma kind of lost their way customer service-wise a few years ago. I keep hearing horror stories from people trying to deal with them, so your experience fits what I have heard and experienced.
      If you want to get your 142x repaired, I'd contact whoever you talked to at Pureland. They will handle the logistics(arranging shipping and all) and I would be the one working on it. That said, there are a few things you can try first.
      I'd suggest taking the lamp out and using a vacuum with a wand attachment and just kind of working it around the inside of where the lamp goes. I'd point it towards the the color wheel area for sure. If the dust is built up, that should be enough to knock it loose and out of the color wheel sensor. Worse case, it would need a new wheel and really that is not that uncommon. They tend to go bad after about 5 years so I think you are well past 5 years. Most older DLP projectors(over 5-7years) are on color wheel 2 or 3. I know of a few Optoma HD20s that are on wheel #5 and closing in on 20 years old and still work great.
      I'd try the vacuum cleaning first. Run it over the vents on the outside too. No matter how clean you keep your house, projectors just attract any dust that is airborne and it will stick to the plastic. Not much you can do aside from vacuum it up now and again. If you still have issues with the color wheel shutting down the projector, then you can talk to Pureland about a repair if you want to go that way. Worse case, as long as you get an RMA going before 30 days you can send back the lamp, for a refund if you decide that a new projector is the way you want to go.

    Thanks for the video! My Hd142x has a 4 month old bulb from projectorlampsusa and recently it started making buzzing noises. Now when turned on, it makes a loud static buzz, the bulb flickers and then shuts off. I disassembled and cleaned everything but still same issue. I've heard it could be the ballast board? Is that the entire power supply board? I've also inquired on the bulb warranty. Any advise would be much appreciated!

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  29 днів тому +1

      color flicker or light to dark flicker? How does the color wheel check out? I would check my color wheel videos first. If you have any lamp ignition the ballast is not likely bad. you want to do some more troubleshooting instead of loading the "parts cannon". If its just a color wheel, you're talking like $40-50. If its the ballast(I doubt) then its much much more.
      confirm the issue and solution first instead of just throwing parts at it due to what someone else said. Even me! I would be verifying the color wheel first. Those are very common failures. Ballasts dont really fail unless something damages them like a cheap amazon lamp.

    • @joscarlang
      @joscarlang 28 днів тому

      Hi frank! Thanks for the reply! It makes a short burst of what I'd call loud white noise while the bulb fires. The bulb illuminates only briefly during the noise... Maybe half a second then cuts out. I checked out the color wheel last night and it's dirty but the sticker is there and it spins freely. The unit does the 3 spin cycles then shuts off. (cooling fan works too). I bought replacement color wheel and will install in a couple of days and report back. Cheers

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  21 день тому +1

      @@joscarlang It kind of sounds like a bulb honestly. Was it an oem or decent aftermarket or was it from amazon or jasper tronics?
      Before replacing the color wheel, I would check the index pulses. If it has clean index pulses, the wheel should be fine. I mean it cant hurt to replace the color wheel, they do wear out but the way you say it makes white noise sounds like a bad arc tube in the lamp.

      Probalby the wheel itself. If it makes a weird whining type of noise, the color wheel's index mark probably came off. Its a little black square sticker on the shiny hub of the color wheel.
