Hi Rob, what a fantastic channel, I have subscribed. Loving all the content, there are not enough people in the world like you! Question, should I run with just Public Liability Insurance or also have Professional Indemnity Insurance? Thank you
Happy New Year Rob, hope you and your family had a great Christmas. As you say communication and doing what you say you will, when you say you will goes a long way. Enjoying what you do and earning enough to pay the bills makes you very successful!
Hi Rob, enjoying your channel. I am retiring from my existing job and looking to start my own gardening business. You said you would not touch a rear roller mower, are you able to expand why? I use a rear roller on my own lawn as I like the finish with the stripes. Learning so much from you. Keep it up. I’m in the planning phase at the moment. Cliff.
Hello Cliff, rear roller mowers are much heavier and cut shorter, not as versatile as a four wheel. Some gardens are quite rough and a rear roller isn’t enough. I am doing a video on the subject soon. Good luck with your business, let me know how you get on.
Hi rob hope you had a good Christmas and new year? Have you put your prices up this 2022 you said you were. Have you lost any customer because of this. I haven’t told my customers yet but the start of 2022 I going to charge a little more. Glad you you putting videos on again.
Hello Carl, I haven’t put my prices up yet. I will message every customer early February informing them of the price increase. I may lose a few , it’s my aim to drop a few , problem customers and try to replace with better , nicer customers.
Great video Rob, best wishes for 2022, hope your weed n feed venture goes well👍 I think their are many in the NHS that aren't happy, not a surprise when you think of the stress and workload they have been under, especially in the last couple of years. A generous pay rise would have shown their dedication has been appreciated, but that didn't happen...🙄
Good honest video. HNY Rob. How’s the plans going for offering lawn care? have you taken your PA1&6 and have you purchased a scarifier yet? Hope 2022 is a good one 👍
Thanks for watching and your comment. PA1 and 6 course in March. Ordered a new scarifier, waiting for it do be delivered. Haven’t pushed the weed and feed, been ill and now busy, I need to get my finger out. 👍🏻
Happy new year Rob. Good to see you back here. You mentioned you didn’t get on well with the Hayter 48 pro? Could you tell me why this was? I was looking at buying one this year, the newest model with the Honda 170 engine. Cheers, all the best, Dave
Hello David. The Hayter is great when the weather is dry and you have a perfect lawn. For me it wasn’t versatile enough. Hence I got rid and bought the Honda hrx 537. All the best. 👍🏻
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices Thanks for replying Rob. That makes sense. I currently use a 4 wheel HRX too, the smaller 476. It’s been super reliable for 2.5 years, but I find the finish inconsistent in the wet, as it seems to have insufficient lift to stand the flattened grass up for cutting. Thanks, Dave
@@davidkennard2246 Hi David, Honda lawnmower design is very poor for wet grass collection. Better buying a mower for the wet days, Stihl, Husqvarna, Etesia and weibang with the highlift blade all are good at wet grass collection. Forgot to add, Massport mowers are completely open at the back so no chute to clog with wet grass.
Hello Lewis, it certainly is. Make sure your mover is small enough to get in and out of the car or You will sicken yourself. Good luck with your business and let me know how you get on. 👍🏻
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices Hi mate thankyou I certainly will let you know your videos have helped me so much if my journey is anything like yours It's a success. 👍
How do you buy materials like seeds, soils etc and put it on an invoice etc. I'm struggling to think about the money aspect of it. Do you get the customer to pay for the materials. Or do you buy with you money and get them to pay you back on the invoice
Another cracking video rob. Just off topic a little. Have you seen the Honda cobra mowers? I have just bought a rear roller one. They are built like a tank and half the price of a Honda in house mower.
I am a sole trader, being a limited company does have its benefits but needs more work regarding accounts etc. Speak to an accountant for advice, my knowledge is limited pardon the pun. All the best and thanks for watching.
I’ve just done 5 hours and very tired. How do you manage tea and lunch breaks throughout the day and pacing your energy levels so you(or anyone) don’t overdo it??
That depends. Ring a few local firms , they should give you a free initial assessment/ interview regarding your business. Anything from £150 to £300 per year depending on the complexity of your business. All the best and good luck.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices Ok thank you Rob. Your UA-cam channel is really good, it gives me motivation and lots of knowledge, I have a car, business cards, tools, oils, etc, just need to have a good go on my garden for the first cut of the year then I’ll start posting my cards through some letter boxes
Hi Rob. Been gardening for nearly 30 yrs. Just wanted to say grass/ hedge cutting and tidying is NOT gardening. It is garden or grounds maintenance. I started through business link and my mentor had to show me the difference. Now I do gardening and grounds maintenance . Until you can tell the difference between a pelargonium and a geranium etc most "gardeners" just maintain . Since I started maintaining, I have on the job experience of working in clients greenhouses (not the average 6by6 ones) of taking cuttings, of all types. I maintained a veg garden and orchard ( standards and espaliers) before the internet by reading books. Plant and tree identification is key too. I had gone to agri college to further this, also knowing what time of year depending on species to prune is vital too. I.e clematis........... This is not a dig at you, just wanted to share what I know ! As for advertising, I have only worked by word of mouth, my work is of quality that I need not to advertise. (This is not a brag it's just down to being honest with clients and doing quality work) and spending time over a coffee talking to clients even if I'm late to next job. As for google............ Wait for the calls and emails wanting payments to raise you in the search bar...........🙄 they found me not other way round ! Any how, catch ye later 👍
Thank you for taking the time to write your comment. I agree with some of what you say, however, when starting out you need to start somewhere. Where you are, isn’t realistic or relevant to someone new like myself. My channel is about starting and running a gardening business. Trying to offer advice relevant to my journey. Thanks.
I’m sorry but I could not go past and Ignore this comment…. I’m also a gardener of prestige knowledge… and I need to raise some points with you… Firstly, lawn and edging and cleaning is as much as a garden duty as it is to dig bulbs, feed lawn, seed plants, plants re allocation, cutting back, re-shaping, even growing veg. It’s all gardening and horticulture…. Secondly, you say you need to know the names of the plants and bla bla bla… well, I have worked in all season gardens exotic gardens inside private mansions (I’m sure with your years of experience you know what a all season exotic garden is) and I have worked with people that know almost little to nothing in gardening.. and in 2 seconds nowadays they can identify a plant with an app and deal with that same plant just like someone would that knows the name of the plant… I don’t have a business my self anymore, as I make much more money working for my private client. One client is all I have, but I have a 45 acre land, with a all season exotic garden, private forest , huge greenhouse with 30 vegetable beds where I grow everything including herbs…. I’m not gonna go into who I work or bla bla.. but i just want to say that you came here almost shaming this man saying basically he doesn’t do gardening when in fact he does…. Oh by the way, I’m a graduated physicist… but have no solid qualifications in gardening….. still look after a place that was designed by a previous flower show winner… I could go on and bla bla but no point. Only point I have is - keep up Max, and if you ever get stuck with something you can always reply here and we find a way to contact eachother. Keep up the honesty and ignore low ignorant people with little to low kindness. Big hugs from Windsor.
@@wealthgrowthtips2815 little to low kindness? i bet you had participation medals on your sports day ........ sometimes you have to face the truth, no matter if its brutal or feels wrong. cutting grass and hedges does not make you a gardener like you say you are a "physicist". your knowledge means nothing here, i was pointing out grass cutting etc. is not gardening but grounds maintenance, (i started on my local council you sound bitter that you cant emulate your previous show winner)........ since 94 i have been in business, only ever lost a client through death or moving away.........i still stand by what i say. i started via my local council doing "grounds maintenance" (not gardening) of parks, splays and greens. i also have clients of merit. and one client i have has a site of special scientific interest with limitation of my work and is mod property linked to stonehenge. (with rare orchids) i listened, but you are wrong in terminology. this is the reason why i unfollowed this site, and others. 28 years later i am not going to take advice from a physicist, like you are not going to take advice from a gardener.............lol ! but have a great day !

Happy New Year Rob, hope you and your family had a great Christmas. As you say communication and doing what you say you will, when you say you will goes a long way. Enjoying what you do and earning enough to pay the bills makes you very successful!
Thanks Ched, all the best for 2022.
Your great
Great advice for anyone who is thinking of starting up !!
Just watch this man
Rob is the man 👍👍✋
Thanks Martin appreciate your kind words.
Bits n pieces till March, git a mate starting out, so passing a few jobs to him. Can't be bothered.
Thanks for watching Derek. All the best.
Great video Rob, best wishes for 2022, hope your weed n feed venture goes well👍
I think their are many in the NHS that aren't happy, not a surprise when you think of the stress and workload they have been under, especially in the last couple of years. A generous pay rise would have shown their dedication has been appreciated, but that didn't happen...🙄
Your so right. Thanks for watching and your comment. All the best.👍🏻
👍🏻
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices 👍 which scarifier did you go for?
The stihl rl 540.
Great to have your vlogs to look forward to again Rob 👍
Thanks very much, all the best.
Hi mate loving the videos just a question I'm starting out do you think it's possible to start out with a car and save up for a van?
Hello Lewis, it certainly is. Make sure your mover is small enough to get in and out of the car or You will sicken yourself.
Good luck with your business and let me know how you get on. 👍🏻
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices Hi mate thankyou I certainly will let you know your videos have helped me so much if my journey is anything like yours It's a success. 👍
Thanks Lewis, all the best.
How do you buy materials like seeds, soils etc and put it on an invoice etc. I'm struggling to think about the money aspect of it. Do you get the customer to pay for the materials.
Or do you buy with you money and get them to pay you back on the invoice
I buy them before the job then bill the customer after including labour. All the best.
Another cracking video rob. Just off topic a little. Have you seen the Honda cobra mowers? I have just bought a rear roller one. They are built like a tank and half the price of a Honda in house mower.
I have seen the Honda Cobra mowers, I am looking to buy a Lawnflite Pro 553HRS-PROHS Lawn Mower High Speed Rear Roller.
Thanks 🙏.
Same mower different badge
Great videos 👍 just one question, are you sole trader or limited company?? What is best for a gardener starting out ??
I am a sole trader, being a limited company does have its benefits but needs more work regarding accounts etc.
Speak to an accountant for advice, my knowledge is limited pardon the pun. All the best and thanks for watching.
I’ve just done 5 hours and very tired. How do you manage tea and lunch breaks throughout the day and pacing your energy levels so you(or anyone) don’t overdo it??
Thanks for watching and your comment. I do take regular breaks and try not to push too hard especially at the beginning of the season. All the best.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices thanks 🙏
U smoke d grass yeh Rob?😋
Definitely not.👍🏻
I’m looking to start in February but how much is an accountant please Rob?
That depends. Ring a few local firms , they should give you a free initial assessment/ interview regarding your business. Anything from £150 to £300 per year depending on the complexity of your business.
All the best and good luck.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices Ok thank you Rob. Your UA-cam channel is really good, it gives me motivation and lots of knowledge, I have a car, business cards, tools, oils, etc, just need to have a good go on my garden for the first cut of the year then I’ll start posting my cards through some letter boxes
Is it best to buy all your equipment after you've set up your business to save on tax?
I would , that’s what I did.
Speak to a local accountant, they will be able to give you expert advice.
Thanks, will do👌
Finding your videos very useful and interesting, always informative and enjoyable to watch .
Thank you
Got all the tools just I can’t afford a van
I started off using the boot of the wife’s motor. Good luck.
My gardener just uses his car, think he's got an estate car, ample room for his mover, Strimmer, blower and other tools.
My customers wont let me start cutting til March,i lost 3 jobs because they knew i havent had the covid vaccine.luckily ive replaced them.
We live in a free world. You take care.👍🏻
At least you haven't got myocarditis 👍🏻😂
I’m also a gardener of prestige knowledge… and I need to raise some points with you…
Firstly, lawn and edging and cleaning is as much as a garden duty as it is to dig bulbs, feed lawn, seed plants, plants re allocation, cutting back, re-shaping, even growing veg. It’s all gardening and horticulture….
Secondly, you say you need to know the names of the plants and bla bla bla… well, I have worked in all season gardens exotic gardens inside private mansions (I’m sure with your years of experience you know what a all season exotic garden is) and I have worked with people that know almost little to nothing in gardening.. and in 2 seconds nowadays they can identify a plant with an app and deal with that same plant just like someone would that knows the name of the plant…
I don’t have a business my self anymore, as I make much more money working for my private client.
Glad I read your post as the next time I need advice from someone who knows everything I’ll know who to speak to 😂
@@wealthgrowthtips2815 little to low kindness? i bet you had participation medals on your sports day ........
sometimes you have to face the truth, no matter if its brutal or feels wrong.
cutting grass and hedges does not make you a gardener like you say you are a "physicist".
your knowledge means nothing here, i was pointing out grass cutting etc. is not gardening but grounds maintenance, (i started on my local council you sound bitter that you cant emulate your previous show winner)........
since 94 i have been in business, only ever lost a client through death or moving away.........i still stand by what i say.
i started via my local council doing "grounds maintenance" (not gardening) of parks, splays and greens.
i also have clients of merit. and one client i have has a site of special scientific interest with limitation of my work and is mod property linked to stonehenge. (with rare orchids)
i listened, but you are wrong in terminology. this is the reason why i unfollowed this site, and others.
28 years later i am not going to take advice from a physicist, like you are not going to take advice from a gardener.............lol !
but have a great day !
