How could a war between China and Taiwan play out? | Four Corners

  • Tensions over Taiwan are the highest they’ve been in nearly three decades.
China has warned it will take Taiwan by force if necessary, while US military strategists are now mapping out war games to predict the impacts of a conflict.
They forecast it could become a brutal regional war, with casualties and carnage on a scale not seen since WWII.
It’s increasingly becoming a question of when - not if - China will launch an assault. Experts say it could be as early as 2025.
And Australia would play a key role in the conflict as it spills across the Pacific.
The investigation reveals how the US has been quietly building up its military assets in northern Australia, including plans to deploy nuclear capable B-52 bombers south of Darwin.
There are now fears that relationship could pull Australia deeper into any future conflict.

      It feels like we are slowly sleepwalking into nuclear war and the end of the world;
      1. There is a huge rise in nationalism on both sides.
      2. Both sides feel weak but can't afford to look weak. They are arming themselves because they think the other side is stronger, but the other side feels weak and reacts by arming themselves some more.
      3. Anyone who suggests a compromise is cancelled and shunned. The middle ground is slowly being eroded. There is a huge rise in intolerance.
I am really worried by the lack of logic and reasoning. But i am more disappointed by the West.
      4. Weeks ago US/Australia/New Zealand were warning Solomon Islands that there would be consequences if they allow China station police (not military) in their own territory. They totally ignore the fact that in November 2021 thousands of Chinese were attacked in a riot most business burnt and looted were in China Town. They said that they were never consulted - as if they would consult Solomon Islands when they invited more American troops.
      5. The former US ambassador to Russia stated that if Russia were to attack Ukraine with nuclear weapons, no one would ask Zelensky to cede part of his country to Russia. I kept wondering if that is really how nuclear weapons work, because if Russia nukes Ukraine there will be nothing left to surrender. Again in this video they keep saying that.
      6. Then Zelensky himself telling us that Russia has captured and occupied a nuclear power facility and Russia not Ukrainian soldiers were responsible for the shelling of a facility they already occupy.
      God help us all.

Another successful attribute is to learn how to take emotion out of the decision making process… Your initial reaction is often the wrong reaction and it is important to take a second, even if a second is all you have, to make an informed decision.
Try to apply it every day. Ask yourself: “What is the problem? What is the emotion I’am associating to the problem”? … That is enough time to make an informed decision.

On our imaginary gauge, be on the neutral zone, neither in a negative manner nor in a positive manner.

I studied foreign policy in university.
Similar to how Britain gifted America technology in WW2, I firmly believe we should be gifting submarine and aviation technology to Australia.
There were several military academia reports that stated that if Australia and New Zealand had access to more sensitive US aviation and submarine technological capabilities. They would be able to rapidly use them to develop their own systems. By Australia having an extremely powerful submarine and fighter aircraft fleet , allows them not only to protect against China, but allows them to help protect some of the most important waterways in the Indian Ocean. Australia is a country that's going to have massive global significance over the next century, and we need to do more to help our allies.
When you look at an aggressive and expanding China. They're going to follow the same strategy of the Japanese had in WW2.
They need the Philippines, the Indonesian, and Australian areas. The metal, rubber, oil, just the vast natural resources of this area makes it critical for long-term war effort and economy.
As an American 100% in supportive of our Australian allies and I think we need to be doing more! We need to be building new joint military facilities, exchanging technology and have a highly integrated military systems, I would even propose as going as far as building joint infrastructure projects together.

I think it is extremely ironic that the Chinese Armys official name is the "People's Liberation Army."
Who are they going to liberate?
Most of their current military buildup is openly in preparation for the invasion of Taiwan. They need to either change their name or direct their invasion efforts toward places where the population is in need of liberation. Might I suggest North Korea?

I wouldn’t bet against it, our nation has the worst levels of wealth and home ownership in the world for people of combat age. When the time comes a large segment of people will ask how much should I give. This isn’t the 1940s.

I’m absolutely sure that if China plans to take Taiwan by force it’s militarily strategists have also factored in all possible scenarios including the possibility of other militarily powers coming to the aid of Taiwan…

Lulz. Even if china takes taiwan, It will gain a barren island. There is a 0% chance that anything will be left for them.

'absolutely sure that if China plans to take Taiwan by force'?
Time is on China's side. Why hurry?
In 8 years' time, China's GDP will be bigger than that of the US. China's military might will also be more intimidating.
Have you notice that China hasn't fired a single shot to become the world number two in 30 years? Infra structure and economic growth is China's strength. Why use destructive military force if one can achieve the same objective by peaceful means?
This is one of the top strategies hailed by Sun Tzu in his 'Art of War': Win the War without fighting a battle.
'Take Taiwan by force' will only benefit the US.
The US is trying to repeat the Ukrainian success in Taiwan. But looks like China is more tactful than Russia, and the US.

true, as we all know, Korea, Japan, Philippines and even Vietnam have been growing their military due to China's aggression in the South China Sea.

@@liulaolao7269 I grew up in Thailand and Hong Kong, I know what the Chinese Government have tried to and may do to any competition in Asia. btw the ASEAN group is mainly for economic development not military.
