I can't believe the FX30 is getting anamorphic features before the FX6. Sonys update Policy is really something. I bought a a7siii and FX6 and seem to be let down the road all the time.
Stephan, as I mentioned in the video, I don’t see this kind of update coming up for the FX6 anytime soon as the "inner architecture" of the FX6 and FX3/30 is very different, but of course, I hope to be proved wrong.

@@CineD Yeah. It just sucks to be let down by Sony again and again. The FX6 has so many cons compared to the FX3s Software. It just feels like an uncomplete package.

Well, that’s a start, but they didn’t think about it properly. 24p only in DCI, so you have to choose between anamorphic or real 24p, as it doesn’t make any sense to shoot DCI for ultra-wide anamorphic. They should also have opened up the sensor to 3:2 and should add more squeeze factors. And needles to say, WHY NOT FX6?
Dci is for cinema not youtube. Why shoot 24pdci for youtube when people are watching this content on 16:9 ratio at 60hz?
I agree. 3:2 readout would have been much more useful than monitor desqueeze..
Still no false color or waveforms in camera. A bit sad. But at least the FX3 has DCI now. 🖤
Nice that now we have anamorphic desquize, but only 2x and 1.3x is not enough, 1.5 and 1.8 is also needed. Also, the way Sony has implemented it is weird and hard to work with. It should work on any aspect ratio, even if the final result is not the proper "cinema" format. Also, it should work both in DCI and UHD and in all framerates and all codecs and color profiles - not the log only. My only hope is this is an attempt to rush the firmware before hopefully the FX3 mark II will be announced later this week :-) with all the bells and whistles and internal ND filters :-) Boys can dream - right? :-) Right?

Wow, this is unexpected and awesome!
Very stoked, and excited for more. Top priority for me would be a better HMDI Info Display. Sony had to add DCI 4K so that the FX3 could truly be a B-Cam to the FX6/FX9. Info Display, and Shutter Angle would be a couple great ways to make them match.
Nice touch! I would still want to see Shutter Angle and Clear Scan (CLS).
Worth also mentioning that the new firmware version adds support for the new Creators' App as Sony are migrating away from the Imaging Edge App for cloud integration. I was having to bounce between the apps for my a7 IV vis-a-vis the FX30, but now they're consolidated to one app.

@@CineD Indeed, it is an incredibly minor point by comparison. And Sony did a poor job of explaining why they needed to bifurcate into a completely new app, instead of an Imaging Edge update with rebranding that merely adds cloud syncing (otherwise, identical).
Sony are really going all out to push a7siii users to their FX line.
It’s actually the first time I’m a little disappointed in them. I use the a1 and a7siii, I totally get that they’re not “cinema line” in terms of Sony’s classification, however, the flagship a1 is lacking simple updates like the focus breathing etc and seems to have just been left behind. A similar story to the a7siii.
The a7sIII should just really be the FX3. The FX3 can still shoot photos but it's geared towards video so it makes sense it belongs in the cine lineup.
Its coming soon. I have a gut feeling! The community is definitely mad and fed up when its comes to A7siii and especially the A1

Sony, please give us eVND while keepings IBIS inside the camera. Also add 1.5x de-squeeze and open gate shooting. I hope these things will be in the fx3ii

With A7S IV potentially coming by end of year or next, you might as well sell the A7S III to still get a decent chunk of your investment back! The camera is dead and not getting any type of support which, in my opinion, makes sense. Especially since they moved that sensor into the ZV-E1 xD
And all the FX models as well.
As much as the a7siii needs a firmware update, I don’t think they will put these cinema features on the Siii. They won’t even put those features on the new ZV-E1 full frame “bloggers” camera.

They need to add Extended Clear Scan to the FX3
They were so close… shutter angle and clear scan would have made this the update (nearly) complete

@@CineD I just updated. It technically does crop the top and bottom to get that aspect ratio. It maintains DCI 4k resolution but it crops parts of the image
Maybe gt AI framing too 😏 ; Pretty sure there is in upcoming update...
It's a good attempt by Sony to add in software based anamorphic modes for the FX3 but it doesn't hit the nail on the head.
I think it is the case that Sony will never full implement the right shooting modes and viewing modes in their prosumer cameras; which forces the consumer to continue to rely on external recorders / monitor solutions.
It's really funny that a "movie camera" at that price didn't have those options from the start.
Oh well, it's never too late. Fx30 was only launched in October
Sony didn't want to slow down the A7SIII sales pipeline.

@@8020Alive The sensor and processing pipeline are exactly the same in the FX3 and a7S3. There is zero reason Sony should not or could not ship the firmware for that camera. It's absurd that these video centric cameras even shipped without a 24p mode to begin with.

Can't believe how frustrating it is to update Sony cameras. I did an update from 2.00 to 2.02, did it on a Mac, it was unsuccessful on a Windows PC. Now I'm updating to 3.00, encountering similar issues but worse. I've managed to get it to 2.05 (the interim version before going to 3.00), but can't get to 3.00. It says, "The preparation for the update is not ready. Verify the following points." on a Windows computer , and it says "Could not update. Complete the following procedures to update again." on a Mac.
I have followed every steps mentioned on the website and in the installer, no lens or media is attached. I tried restarting computers, trying different cables (was using the cable given by Sony in the box), rechecked my Mac security settings following the instruction on Sony's website. I have no clue what else to do. Why is it that 2.05 was successful, but not 3.00?
My kingdom for Sony to put desqueeze in the FX6
Sony is probably scared of losing market share to Panasonic again now that they have phase detect AF being implemented into their cameras. Panasonic has had these cinema features and much more in their cameras for years.
Add these features to the a7S III. This is getting ridiculous.

At this point i think we can call the a7sIII abandoned. No major update since the release of the FX3... the a7rV has more videocentric features at this point...
Aren't you happy with inage quality and low light performance? Remeber when sony had only8bit cameras in the alfa series?
@@petrub27 image quality and low light isn't everything. infact i still only record 8bit b cause for yt it's pointless. It just sucks how Sony does t implement features that work in a rehousing
@@Soundwave857 how is 10bit pointless? It's about how the signal is captured in camera. Sure, you will deliver rec709 8bit but it doesn't mean you have to record same. Learn your basics
@@petrub27 ok, next time i take videos i use 10bit despite not using log, export it in 10bit even if YT or most devices don't need 10 bit 👍

24p at 1/48 will give horrendous flicker in pal areas

As most people have pointed out...where is the A7siii update and the FX6 update.???????? Sony's new roadmap of giving even the cheapest blogging cam, better AF functions than their top of the line A1 or the A7siii is really bizarre and annoying in equal measure

I am selling my a7s3 and will buy Panasonic, i think the most friendly brand for his customers, sony like greedy capitalist...
A used or discounted Leica SL2 mirrorless that is part of the Panasonic ecosystem is more capable than a FX3 tbh. And it does 45mp stills as well. True cine / photo hybrid.
I’m actually so disappointed because they still didn’t introduce 3:2 recording as an anamorphic mode! 2.0x squeeze lenses are still useless on this camera!

I updated the FX3 this morning and so far everything else that they added is very good.
Full frame 2x anamorphics are definitely useless on this camera. Super 35 2x anamorphics will now be very useful, assuming that the desqueeze function also crops your monitor view in to 2.66 or 2.39. A 4x3 crop of the FX3's 16x9 modes comes incredibly close to a proper Super 35 4-perf capture area.
And I bought an A7SIII before this was out and all Sony did was abandon it after release. Once I have enough spare cash on hand I will be moving away from Sony products.
