MY FX30 has always had VARIBLE SHUTTER ANGLE that is infinity adjustable. It's under SHOOTING/SHUTTER/SILENT/ ANTI FLICKER SET/ VA. SHUTTER ON or OF and then VAR SHUTTER SET. Then go back to your Main menu and you can set the shutter to any angle you want to reduce LED flicker.
Its weird but for me the best update is being able to put S&Q toggle on a custom button. Now I can just press one button and im already in to my 120p slomo instantly without having to go into the S&Q shooting mode in the menu. Thats massive for run & gun workflows
Opens up a lot of options for someone who is both run and gun and does a lot of talking interviews. The key is that camera data and the idea of lugging this setup to quickly get into action.

Much of that doesn't bother me, but I do look forward to the shutter angle for my interview and racing work. Thank you for all you do.
I love the new updates for the FX30. Being able to choose 1/48 when shooting in 24fps is a huge addition. You really don't need shutter angle if you can shoot this way. Shooting in 4K DCI is also a great change. Although being forced to shoot in All Intra only while in 4K DCI is an unusual push. Maybe you have some insight into this. Being able to desqueeze in camera is nice, but losing stabilization sucks. Not sure why one affects the other, but oh well. But, truthfully, it's not a big deal. If I were using anamorphic lenses, I would most likely use an external monitor so I can film with a larger view of the shot. Plus, I would desqueeze it in the monitor view as well. I have the Atomos Shinobi monitor which does this quite well.
the IBS wil usually fuk up anamorphic image on the edge, creat some very nasty warp effect which has no way to be fixed in post, so if you really into anamorphic shoting, you probably want make sure your ibs is 100% off during the whole shot. This is really good move from Sony, as long as you turn on desqueez, you dont have to worry about nasty warp effect with your anamorphic lens anymore.
Crazy that they packed the same features into this camera. So much power in a sub 2K cam. I may sell the FX3 after this release or cancel the ZV-E1 pre-order.

But I'm having an Issue now as I can't shoot in 4.2.2. 10 Bit but I can shoot in 4.2.0 10bit. Don't suppose you know Why as this didn't happen until I cleaned off my Sensor with a Blower*
For filmmaker who don't intend to post the footage on a theater 24fps might not be great especially for youtube as you might get jumpy frames. Great update but great for high-end cinematographers that wanna match it up with Venice 2 and other cinema cameras.
Sadly I didn’t read the details in the update. Removed the battery to cycle the power before the update was done. Now my cameras done for. Wish I was joking but that’s just how life goes😂 next time I will definitely be more careful when updating my camera
The omission of 180 shutter angle is a massive purposely cripple. Now that we have Exposure Indexing, Shutter angle should've been on the top of their list for this firmware release. The fact that they did add 1/48 and so on, tells me that they won't add it and leave it for anything beyond the FX6
hey Kofi, i could really use some HELP on how to (again) upload my Phantom luts (33x or 65x) on to my FX30 - I cant do it after i have updated to version 2.0 - I think many suffer the same problem but there are no videos on this !
This isn't true DCI though. Look at the comparisons. The Camera is adding a crop to the top and bottom, rather than widening the frame, so it adds zero benefit as you can do that in post.
@@chleepy 4096 vs 3840 means a wider frame. I've ran the tests on my own FX30. It doesn't widen the frame, it just crops the top and bottom, that is not how DCI should work 🙃

Correct me if i'm wrong but the Sony Fx30 already has shutter angle setting all you do is go in to your Anti-Flicker menu and turn that on and turn the big dial on the back or what ever dial you use to change your shutter speed and it shows the shutter speed angle you can set it to. Now when i shoot indoors and use lights that are plugged into the A/C outlet if i set my shutter speed to 120 or 125 what ever it is while shooting 4k 60 i notice light flicker, for some reason shooting at 1/60 shutter speed or 1/120 or 1/125 shutter speed i get flickering from the lights i can see the lines scrolling down the screen, BUT if i turn on the Anti-Flicker on, and then set my shutter speed 119.9 while shooting 4k 60 or 59.95 while shooting 4k30 i don't get flicker so, i think this is basically the same thing as having shutter angle feature??
I've watch a dozen videos on the Sony FX30 and I'm waiting for my camera to be delivered. But all the video's I've watched look dark and I'm hoping this isn't the case when i get my camera.
Ok so I just got the FX30 and did the update right away. After finally doing some messing around i have a problem that I can't find any answers to at all. If I record anything in 10 bit my footage and thumbnails have thick colored horizontal lines on them in DaVinci Resolve and the thumbnails have the lines in regular windows but not when I play the footage. Can anyone help me get to the bottom of this? I'd really like to get to use the 10 bit options on my new camera.
is it possible for a firmware update to unlock a continuous or burst mode on the fx30 since it is an electronic shutter? If that’s not how it works, can someone plz explain haha?

Overall been happy with the fx3, but my biggest pain points with that camera is the poor design of the xlr top handle, no nd and the overall bad ergonomics. It’s a stills camera trying to be a cinema camera and it doesn’t work in my opinion. With the money I spent trying to make the fx3 perform like a cinema camera, I could have purchased the fx6 instead. And have a great cinema camera out of the box. Unfortunately a software update won’t fix these issues 😂

Frustrating that Sony refuse to add in features that "other" brands have which really. make the camera a cinema camera and aid video shooters... especially on their cinema line cameras. Instead they offer updates that not all people would really benefit from... Sony are a strange bunch... Great video though dude and quick turn around!
i did get it ! better for the fx30 but Sony dirty game got worse no upgrade for Sony a7s3 that came in same time as the fx30 and no upgrade for the A1 that costs twice the price Sony is greedy and repulsive
the DCI is fake. It does not extend your pixels to the side...it takes away pixels from the top and bottom and then resizes it to DCI resolution. I showed this on my channel to see for yourself. Sony playing games with us...nice try Sony. Opinion is unchanged.
@@KofiYeboah oh I will too, its just weird because its not really "standard" to do it that way and on a camera that already has a crop sensor, we just keep getting into more crops lol. 4k 120? Crop. Active stabilization? crop. 4,7k RAW on the Ninja V? Crop. its an APSC sensor running the same chips and hardware as the AS7III, it shouldnt be cropping...anything really. But at the end of the day, we are still getting 4k, really nice 4k, pick the right lens, frame your shot right, and none of it should be a bother. I just find it odd. Jason Morris just told me this is also true of the FX6, which I had no idea of. Sony does DCI with a different approach i guess
Sony has started to do what CaNikon used to do. Incredibly slow incremental upgrades, and then charging their victims extortionate amounts of wonga for the privilege. Luckily Canon and Nikon have super upped their game . Booyaaaah! Also Sony has the worst aftercare service, warranty is useless. Make sure you get the extended cover. You have been warned. The only thing they seem to be doing right, is taking care of their army of social media influencers 😅 its definitely working for them.
On the warranty I tend to disagree, even in the pandemic, they covered my repairs on the a7iii and a7riii with ease and it was pretty quick, Tbf on a $1700 camera, I didn’t expect much to come to the system, not sure what you mean charging victims, firmware updates are free…?

Having to pay for repairs as it's the user's fault! And not covered under warranty. When it so definitely is not! Those victims! The definition should be in any decent dictionary 😁

Same here , I use a monitor most of the time so I’m okay with it , I usually rig my cameras so it’s super heavy when I’m operating 🙏🏾

No reason to get SIII or even ZV-E1 cuz I already have crop lenses. This firmware update boosts up almost all the things we’ve craved

Generally no, you can time code through a cable in the body actually so it might have been redundant

After what happened with the last update (bricking cameras) I might wait a day or two to make sure it's safe lol.
I recommend the firmware 1.05 beforehand, I had no issues and most of the people I saw did didn’t update to 1.05 first !

Frustrating that Sony refuse to add in features that "other" brands have which really. make the camera a cinema camera and aid video shooters... especially on their cinema line cameras. Instead they offer updates that not all people would really benefit from... Sony are a strange bunch...

i did get it ! better for the fx30 but Sony dirty game got worse no upgrade for Sony a7s3 that came in same time as the fx30 and no upgrade for the A1 that costs twice the price Sony is greedy and repulsive
Sony users literally get handed a crumb and act like it's gold. Meanwhile real cinecams are dropping monthly firmware updates with real changes.

the DCI is fake. It does not extend your pixels to the side...it takes away pixels from the top and bottom and then resizes it to DCI resolution. I showed this on my channel to see for yourself. Sony playing games with us...nice try Sony. Opinion is unchanged.

@@KofiYeboah oh I will too, its just weird because its not really "standard" to do it that way and on a camera that already has a crop sensor, we just keep getting into more crops lol. 4k 120? Crop. Active stabilization? crop. 4,7k RAW on the Ninja V? Crop. its an APSC sensor running the same chips and hardware as the AS7III, it shouldnt be cropping...anything really. But at the end of the day, we are still getting 4k, really nice 4k, pick the right lens, frame your shot right, and none of it should be a bother. I just find it odd. Jason Morris just told me this is also true of the FX6, which I had no idea of. Sony does DCI with a different approach i guess

Sony has started to do what CaNikon used to do. Incredibly slow incremental upgrades, and then charging their victims extortionate amounts of wonga for the privilege.
Luckily Canon and Nikon have super upped their game . Booyaaaah!
Also Sony has the worst aftercare service, warranty is useless. Make sure you get the extended cover. You have been warned.
The only thing they seem to be doing right, is taking care of their army of social media influencers 😅 its definitely working for them.
On the warranty I tend to disagree, even in the pandemic, they covered my repairs on the a7iii and a7riii with ease and it was pretty quick, Tbf on a $1700 camera, I didn’t expect much to come to the system, not sure what you mean charging victims, firmware updates are free…?
@@KofiYeboah don't take it so personally? victims, such as people who have bought into a new Sony camera system only to find the mechanical shutter locking during normal use. Having to pay for repairs as it's the user's fault! And not covered under warranty. When it so definitely is not! Those victims! The definition should be in any decent dictionary 😁

@@KofiYeboahDon't mean to spoil your chances with Sony. I have posted this same comment on many other Sony listings surprised at the near same call centre scripted response in defense of Sony. Just need the average Joe Blogger to be aware that the Sony aftercare is definitely subpar to Nikon and Canon and that's writing from personal experience. But if you got good care from Sony you must have been one of the lucky 1s. Don't get me wrong their camera systems were good few years back. But now it seems to be going in the same direction as their mobile phones 🚽🙏👍🏼😊
