BBC1 clock (01:42am): closing announcement
Photo of HM The Queen with national anthem
Many thanks to RobinCarmody for the date
So glad is was a kid an already asleep at this point as if I had woken up to the Queen staring at me it probably would have made me scream
That's definitely NOT gonna unnerve some people
Stop staring at me, Queen Elizabeth II....
Queen Elizabeth II is not a scary queen. She's the nicest queen.
@ZackDoesGamesMusic
LOL
Not to panic. BBC bosses learned that the photo was only suitable for closedown that Christmas with the anthem due to the toys ident on BBC1 that year being considered "too jolly" for use at closedown. I personally feel that they should've used the Virtual LaserDisc Globe, which I think the regions of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland did.
@@debbieparkes3588 She doesn't have a lot to say, does she?
@@debbieparkes3588 it's a joke dumbass

Clip from 2:42-3:28: AH IT FRICKING JUMPSCARED ME LIKE CRAZY
I think the reason why they show a photo of Queen Elizabeth is because the 1992 Christmas ident from BBC1 was ill-suited for the closedown where the national anthem sounds. BBC deemed it was too jolly to use that alongside the anthem.
Yet, they used the 1986 Christmas Ident at closedown in 1986, even though that one was very jolly also.
I personally feel that the BBC should've used the Virtual Globe at closedown instead.
@@stephenemmett9753 They thought that was also too jolly so the Queen was there.
1985 the Robins were also felt inappropriate to use at closedown so they used the COW globe
@@mango4606 BBC1 didn't use the 1994 Christmas idents at closedown, but unlike 1992, they played the regular ident.
i'm sure those lonely people on there own feel much better that the BBC wish them a peacefull night.
How dare you know it. It's thinked how BBC1 was in UK!
Got it! It's the Rolling with the Ronks!
Those lonely people were probably
*scared to death by Queen Elizabeth II.*
Some ITV announcers also did that, particularly at Tyne Tees.
That image of the Queen is rather un-settling! They should've just used the virtual globe (or 'orb' as I call it) if they didn't want to show the christmas ident.
I think it might have taken some time to wire up the videodisc player used for the regular ident, for the Christmas period whatever was playing these idents was wired up.
@@stickytapenrust6869 Though surely, there would've just been one, universal video player used to show all idents? Idk, you're probably more clued up on how they did things back then.
@@Channel-kx1mz No, because all idents won’t have fitted on one disc.
The picture of Queen Elizabeth II probably scared a few people before the anthem ended for 25th December 1992. It's kinda scary that the BBC did that to annoy people.
traeyboy529 Why they did this?
Why are you bloody asking me? I'm not a person who knows the complete history of the BBC, I only know certain in-depth parts of the BBC as well as the basics
I was only curious.
traeyboy529 I know why they do this. It's because not to annoy people. It's because the BBC 1 1992 Christmas ident was too jolly for the national anthem in closedown. So, they have to use that portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. And that's why the BBC put it.
I only stated that as people MIGHT of got a bit annoyed with that image instead of the 1992 Christmas ident .
Someone should make an edit of this:
When the photo of the Queen is shown, the screen slowly zooms into her face. The audio gradually gets louder and the picture starts getting red and shaky. Is this a bad idea?
😂😂😂
Really bad idea
@@Alola_Hanna-Barbera_TMS_Fan come to think of it, yeah.
And then...... The eyes move
@@riceymartin2203 yeah, now it is XD
I'm guessing they used that portrait of the queen for all their slides going into her Christmas speech on both BBC1 and BBC2
why is that end image of queen elizabeth ii so unsettling wtf
Announcer = Mark Waddington
There's a picture of a women so no globe on that one.
when the queen mother's picture came up, i got jumped a little XD

The end of Christmas Day 1992.

Earthquake was terrible
I feel kinda bad about how continuity announcers back then have to sit in a booth at Christmas without spending the night with their families. Kinda sad, really.
They still do now, at least on the main channels.
@@stickytapenrust6869 Can't believe they haven't moved towards pre-recorded continuity
@@blueswingdown I can. In case something goes wrong or there’s a sudden change to schedules, it’s much more professional to have a live announcer than a pre-recorded one.
@@stickytapenrust6869 makes sense
Quite possibly the most unusual BBC 1 closedown.
The one from the night before Diana’s funeral is even weirder.
@@stickytapenrust6869have you got a link for that closedown?
@@Nakakapagpabagabagabag No, you’ll need to look it up.
Clock 1:43 am.
Well we hope you enjoy spending all Christmas and I will say goodbye to Santa Claus. Now, Queen Elizabeth is played at the GSTQ closedown, the anthem has closed down on Radio 4. The Mark Waddington wishes the peaceful night, cutting to Elizabeth and the anthem, and BBC testcard.
