  • There are many people who doubt the theological concept of hell. Let this channel be proof that no fewer than one such hell exists, and that, if the true theological hell is a thing, we probably all belong there.
I grow closer to my death by turning 20 today, and to mourn this I’m making this video.

Why the fuck did I make this.
    Commentary (ABOUT 1K WORDS) --
To defend my copious use of SFM here’s me rambling on about its benefits. If you’re thinking about trying out SFM, this might push you over the edge.
Firstly, time management skills. SFM is a huge timesink, and if you don’t’ plan you could easily tank your grades from doing too much of it. At some point, my perception of time became less of a background phenomenon and more of a highly limited resource that has to be used to get things done. Kind of like what oil was to the Wehrmacht in 1942. Unlike the Wehrmacht, I like to think I’m doing decently.
Given that the coronavirus has displayed a general lack of time management among my age group, I think I’m doing fine. Being a student is a full-time job, and so is making SFMs. And when free time is limited, you come up with ways to optimize its usage. Without SFM as a reason to waste less time, I believe my time management skills would be much more limited.
Another useful skill I can think of would be planning out work. There are no deadlines for SFM. Nobody’s going to send you an angry email or fail you if you don’t upload an SFM by [insert random date]. However, for the sake of making SFMs, you start setting up schedules and timetables. Soft deadlines that you’ll try to meet, depending on how much work you have every week.
Humans overestimate how much they can do in an hour, and underestimate how much they can do in a month. SFM has opened my eyes to this, and you’ll be able to plan my work (both academically and in SFM) more effectively because of it. Without SFM, I think I wouldn’t know how to plan my work.
Additionally, I’ve picked up some confidence. I know, I sound like a rich woman on Instagram but hear me out. As a kid, my confidence was based purely on academic prowess in Math and Science. This started to lessen as I became less fanatically motivated in these subjects as well as my abilities seemingly deteriorating. By mid-2016, I was holding no initiative or confidence of my own since my abilities had effectively plateaued. My parents constantly threatening that I had been progressing at a rate much slower than normal students (despite that being a complete fucking lie) didn’t help.
The unexpected success of Mixing showed that there was more to one’s strengths than the usual “good grades”. This meant a lot for a student in Hong Kong, and I was slowly able to regain some sense of pride in what I was doing. This sense of pride made it’s way back to my academics and by the beginning of 2018, I had regained the confidence that I could actually do well. Judging by my results in the HKDSEs, I’d like to think that was largely true. Without SFM, I think I’d be in a cycle of frustration and self-pity. Kinda like your average Tumblr user.
Finally, the most critical and useful skill is the ability to get up when you feel tired and want to do nothing but go down a Wikipedia rabbit hole starting from Edgar Wright’s filmography and ending in the origins of the word “Solidarity”. Having constantly a well-defined, tangible goalpost for myself has given me something to do even on the worst of days.
It means no longer refreshing Reddit for 5 minutes straight, wondering if a new post was up to give me a jaded and shriveled dopamine hit that lasts a few seconds. It means not going down a cynical Twitter thread where people assume the worst in each other and try to take their fellows down in a never-ending slugfest for a brief rage-induced ember-y feeling that makes the humans feel good for some fucked up reason. No, it means not only doing something easy and fun today because you have better things to do, like work on that homework due 3 weeks later, or that lab prep for this Friday, or that SCP-2786 animation that you want to get done by the 25th of April, 2021. You can play Titanfall 2 after you’ve done your assigned parts for today. Unlike other animals, humans have the superpower of visualizing the future, and I suppose SFM can activate this superpower for you.
Also unlike other animals, humans cannot be kept happy purely by easy and fun things. Look on the internet and see how many purposeless and directionless people are out there, depressed that an easy and fun thing isn’t giving them the usual dopamine. No, there is a machine for most of us, where inputting something hard and challenging outputs happiness. Just like they say in the Matrix, humans literally cannot be happy without some form of suffering, and SFM is the suffering that I have chosen.
SFM acts as a critical component in the machine, replacing academic suffering to fuel my happiness. I input my time and it outputs happiness for me, in the form of self-achievement, telling a good joke, but also in the sense that if I’m lucky, numbers can go up. And as someone who plays 4X games, I like it when the numbers go up. Without SFM as a sink for happiness, I think I’d be a lot less happy. And that would suck.
So again, I do have to thank SFM. Without it, I’d be a husk of my current (December 2020) self.
