Hey Bud, new sub here. I went to range about a month ago. Shot 40 + rounds. All over the place. Was convinced my scope had been compromised. I went back two weeks later and only fired 8x. Spot on, frame of mind is key. Thanks for the help.
My hat is off to you. Form is everything. You can have the best equipment in the world and not shoot well. It all comes together when you have both. But form will always be number one. Let your nerves get the best of you and your done. Then the mind wonders and your form goes to shit. Your wind call is off and so is every other shot sequence. Even the best setup will give way to a shooter who lets their nerves get to them. plus a shooter that shoots in all conditions will preform when others can't. Good job here. Support this guy he has his stuff together.
Thank you for the valuable tips; been shooting bench rest for a few years now, but never heard of the adverse effects of friction and of how to counteract it. Keep up the good work
On several occasions I have been known to outscore the fancy target rifle shooters at my local range using my Lithgow LA101 in the standard stock. My problem is consistency and being able to repeat the results. Two things I struggle with are trigger pull and mind set. Thanks for your sharing.
Thank you so much for the kind words! It means a lot to hear that my tips are making an impact. I’m honored to have a spot in your DOPE book-happy shooting!
Very useful information, i shoot benchrest comps and the thing that lets me down is controlling my breathing and seeing my heartbeat/pulse in the scope.
It's good to get back to the basics I'm as guilty as the rest of wasting time on adjusting scopes trigger weight and bullet selection when over time i have gotten lazy and poor technique has become the norm. Love your work
I am a hunter/ recreational shooter, but I have learned (usually taking multipule rifles to the range on a typical day) that it is key to bring a variety of rear bags/ rests, to allow for proper support with various stock designs 😀
Great information. I never took friction into consideration. I've watched some shooters where the rifle doesn't even flinch - thinking to myself why is mine show recoil and what am I doing wrong? Were they bracing theirs more than I was. I also try to focus on the forend placement, but my stop seems too low to contact the rifle. I might have to see if I can come up with a solution.
Finally some sound advice on how I can improve my Benchrest scores. 10 years at the club and never got much help. Frustrated being stuck at a plateau without improvement. Now perhaps I can get my Anschultz 1710 and ME to be competitive. Thankyou.
Hey Captain, I hear what you're saying, Re; not receiving much, if any help or advice regarding any Shooting Discipline at your Club I think the main reason for this is 'You' are the 'Up and Coming' Competition to them, hence they're reluctant to offer you any help or advice. But I'm sure if you look around at the Range there will appear to be a Shooter who is approachable for you to ask Questions, like Our Friend 'The Benchrest Marksman'! I've just got back into it this year after a 38 year hiatus, Shooting Prone with Peep Sights, with a Annie Match 54, or 'The Canon' as I like to refer to Her as. But have just recently purchased the Annie 1712 for BR Shooting for when I get 'Too Old' to get up and down with the Prone and to give me another Shooting interest. I was told by a Club Member that I would never Shoot a decent BR score with my 1712 as it's not a Match Rifle! Now I chose it because it has the same Match 54 credentials as my 'Canon' including the Two Stage Trigger which is a must for me and I'm only really Shooting against Myself in any Competitions, up to 90 Meters. Now bearing in Mind I'm a 70 yr old D-Grade Shooter, my 50 Meter BR last week was 98, 94, 96, 96, 99, 98 = 581/600 with the (Unsuitable)1712, with the added KAIZEN Tactical Plate and Bag Rider, (which I purchased 3 weeks ago) It's 5 inches x 3 Wide, with a 3 Degree slope to help with the Narrow Rounded Fore-end, (which both 'Our' Rifles have) along with the additional Plate to make it Competition Legal, if you're going down that Track, Which is MY Main Reason for replying to your Post. So If your Not Using one I suggest you 'Do Yourself a Favour' as we say around these parts, spend the $150.00 and Fit It! I Hope you find this information Helpful and Good Shooting Brother!!!
Thanks so much im going to the club this afternoon for my usual beating ive been out of the game for years working just retired and behind the game, im going to have to buy a front rest i can see i want a stop now, mybe one day ill get a little better
I like your take, it’s focused on act shooting not all about equipment. So many seem to think the equipment compensates for a lack of skill. Buying a Stienway concert grand isn’t going to make me a musician.
I had a reality check recently. The old timer next to me at the range noticed me struggling and he asked what the issue was. I had a bit of a whine about not being able to find a load in my rifle that grouped well. He asked if he could have a go and proceeded to stack three shots on top of each other. It was super embarrasing but at the end of the day having an old timer tell me "git gud scrub" was what I really needed to start uping my game.
I agree that you need to have the right mindset, though I disagree where you claim that it's not about having the right ammunitions, because having the most precise ammunition suited for the barrel does make a MASSIVE difference. I have tested over 120 different ammunition brands, weights and types in multiple riffles and some riffles are more ammunition fussy than others, where the ammunition groupings can vary from constant repetitive ammunition on ammunition 10mm groupings with the preferable ammunition type, opposed to a constant six inch spread groupings of other ammunition types.
So, you have explained just about everything I've been doing wrong. I've had to concede to the fact that my rest just isn't cutting it. I finally found an adapter to get a bipod on the Cricket. I'm almost positive the cheap rest is what's causing all my accuracy woes!
I have some knockoff bipods. They seem to be decently stable, I need to get a squeeze bag for under the rear. I’m noticing Benchrest guys use rests, NRL guys use bags/bipods.
I really enjoyed your talk, iam a Hunter shooter and found your advice really helpful, and I thank you for that, iam subscribed so I won’t miss your comments, God Bless!😊
I remember seeing a video from Eric Cortina that just misted some oil on the front benchrest and blew a competition and confused over what happened. He recreated the lube on the foregrip and it happened again as some friction was a bit better as it was the way he shot the day before. Appears consistency is the key as you are explaining and the friction tricky...
I have found spraying some silicone dry lube on a paper towel and wiping it through the rear bag ears makes a big difference to consistency. Talk powder does similar but if it gets wet or damp your finished. Dave
Thank you very much. At 04:41, you will notice on my bag and most bags out there that there is a small flap just underneath the ear tucked in also, at the back of the bag, there is another flap. Use a small funnel to quickly fill the bag. There are dedicated bag-filling funnels that you can buy, but a small kitchen one will do the job
Anyone try the cold bore trick? Blowing gently through a straw into the chamber area to introduce moisture into the barrel. Supposedly, the moisture prevents a “cold bore” first shot. Saw this on the pursuit of accuracy yt channel
I wonder how the quality of the barrel factors in. I don’t mean a shot out barrel. I mean the difference in what some consider cheap (Savage) and say, a higher end barrel (proof) or Christiansen arms style carbon barrel.
Oke m8 i feel you allot BUT..How much is the recoil .Does your rifle like loose hands?Does your rifle like tight hands?Wich becnhrest Do you use ..Does your rifle like a firm sholder ore not .So I have a vulcan 3 .30 shooting slugs ,from 54 gr to 64 gr.and it needs .54gr a regulair sholder..64gr a firm sholder .etc so TBH ????And then you have the trigger ..I understand people who will love you because of your handicap. Can i say that ?yes my older brother was very handicapt aswell. He rest in peace because of his handicap. What i want to say is ..I like your clip m8..But there is so much going on ,for each rifle ,,Is this really a template? For a bunch of rifles? Airgun i talk about ??If i misunderstood ..sorry man very sorry .I mean it
What techniques do you use to improve your accuracy?
lot's of swearing! 😂😂😂
Practice..

Exactly! A $10,000 rifle won't save anyone from bad technique
Congratulations to 1K! Excited to see you grow. Outstanding content❤
Thank you so much!!
Please do a video on tuners. I've heard they can make a difference.
I’ve been thinking about tuners too. Definitely gonna try to cover that soon
That would be 👍 great. I'll keep an eye out for the video. Thanks great channel!!
You are so right!! I’m following you!!
Welcome aboard!
Having days when nothing seems to go right when you did everything you thought necessary to make it a perfect day. Yep. I been there.
Nice tips. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Great information Allen. I picked up something I never paid attention to in this video and that was friction!!!!
Thank you very much mate and give it a try in one of your videos I'm curious to see your thoughts
Great advice!👍
Thanks for watching!

@krm944 i prefer a bipod. You can lock it down. Rear bag is totally necessary!
Awesome video and well said!
Thank you kindly!

Lots of good advice! Regarding the rear bag, ..... how full do you fill the base and ears?

Good advice I like your attitude on getting to go by the way where is your scope?
I am just in the process of changing scopes on my sako

There is a massive difference with consistency
Shooting is like a chess game. Whoever has the strongest mind and concentration wins.
I reckon that he could use a 22 Derringer if he needed to.
It would be awesome to try
