Williams O Scale P32AC Locomotive Unboxing - How Will It Work?

- Back in 2013 me and my family went on a trip to New York and while we were there we visited Grand Central station and saw a New haven P32AC sitting beside one of the platforms.
I've wanted to buy a model of one for a while now but they currently don't make any in HO scale. Williams (Bachmann) does make one in O scale however so I decided to order one.
O scale equipment is something I'm not as knowledgeable with compared to HO however from what I can tell the quality seems decent.
Definitely a cool locomotive, fun to see the real one pulling commuter cars on the MTA. I thinks it's nice that included heritage units into their fleet
MTA's heritage fleet are a beautiful sight. I've seen their P32 painted up like a Conrail FL9, really neat to see modern locos carrying fallen flags.

The absolute legend, he never misses!
The Amount Of Joy He Had At 1:44 Was Crazy!
I envy that BASEMENT SO BAD Your channel has always impressed me with the random collections of trains !! Love it
Nice locomotive. Glad to see you run different scales of trains. It’s nice to have a good variety. Just one point of reference, the black lead from the terminal track should always be connected to the “U” post or “Common” on the Type ZW Transformer. That black lead connects to the outside rail. The red lead should always be connected to one of the A, B, C, or D posts, which A/C “Hot” or positive. This is critical for proper whistle/horn sound, especially with Railsounds. Red is always center rail, and Black is always outside rail.
Sound equipped and ready to go. Not bad. Very nice. From Texas
Surprised no one has said “feels illegal to be here this early” yet
Feels illegal to be here this early

Young man with early train feelz.❤
Great addition to your collection, SMT!
I like all my modern Williams locos. They’re all great pullers. Congrats!
Just stumbled over your channel again, I watched a lot of your videos like 2 years ago then I forgot. Good to see I found you again and I’m looking forward to more videos!
Happy to see O guage and a little fast track
Very cool locomotive Harrison, that thing's a beast!
I bought one of these from (strangely enough) Amazon about 2 months ago. It was under $200 lock, stock, and barrel (and I think it is still available).
I was very happy with the purchase.
I think that's about what I paid for mine on eBay.
Love to see more o scale. Saw the real thing in NYC last December. Also I'd advise getting a circuit breaker, or modern transformer with one to run modern stuff
I agree, although a fuse would work too.
Great loco! Try the whistle button on the ZW. Since it already has a sound unit, a horn will probably sound. Enjoy!
Nice to see some variety in G.E. Genesis locos, usually they're decorated for Amtrak.
Cool locomotive, would be neat to see the O scale layout expanded!
My favorite modern locomotive, the P32 AC-DM!!! I love these locomotives, very nice video on a very nice locomotive!
Very nice purchase
Very Cool Locomotive SMT! My Grandpa Used To Have The New Haven P32AC When He Was A Teen.
Acela Kid - Are you sure that your grandpa's locomotive that he had as a teenager was a P32AC - not a New Haven F3 or EP5?
@@Petemonster62 Yes, I'm Sure It Was A P32AC.
@@Jason_Railfans - I looked up "Lionel Postwar New Haven Locomotives" on the internet and it appears that the EP5 dual cab New Haven was made during the Postwar era & a New Haven F3 diesel pair was made during the MPC/Fundimensions era.
Captain eclectic strikes again😂so glad there was a caboose available for service
I find it astonishing the New Havne P32AC-DM has yet to be made in HO scale aside from custom paint jobs and brass models. MTH made some in O scale too, along with some matching Metro North cars. Or maybe some Railking New Haven cars would be a better match.
It wouldn't be hard to do so, I don't know why Athearn hasn't made a limited run.
I think O scale still has regional popularity in the Northeast and especially the area around New York City so there's demand for models of this type of commuter equipment. It's also why there are a relatively high number of O scale models of New York subway trains.
When I was seven I had begged my mom and dad for an O gauge diesel locomotive, because we only had a polar express steam locomotive along with a few passenger coaches from the movie, and a bunch of freight cars from when my dad was little.
Very nice indeed Harrison, nice to see it run down the tracks. Thanks for the video.
Interesting. I’ve not dabbled much in O scale myself, but the store I worked for in high school sold plenty of it. I have picked up a few pieces on sale over the years from Lionel Legacy and Atlas, I will have to put them to the track one of these days…
Grand Central Terminal. The Station is way down below the streets, and is for subway trains.
The P32 is the best subway I've seen
New Haven amongst my favorite railroads. Congratulations, a great addition 😊👌👍!
He got a O Scale locomotive! For the First time in for ever *From Frozen* !!! 😂 I love that train!!
Your Almost there Harrison 100k subs !!!! Your channel has inspired me so much over the years I have been watching your videos. From the day I got my layout nothing was working, Locos , Track ,Etc but when I started watching your channel I learned so much thank you for being apart of UA-cam !! Rail On my friend
Sweet! Really nice engine. Since it's fresh out of the box it probably needs a drop of oil on the gears.
Awesome locomotive!!! I have always liked O scale trains too.
O scale, HO or N.....the enjoyment is endless!!!!!! Thanks!
91K subscribers!! Holy cow that’s awesome. 80% HO, 15% N, and 5% O scale fans? Let’s see how many people hate on this comment. Lol. Great purchase kid, love it!
O Gauge! Nice work SMT
It's O gauge or no gauge lol. I think I'll stick to HO for the most part but I couldn't help myself on thus one.
You know I have taken a brake from your channel for a big and I come back and man you have really been editing these videos more I can tell. Nice video!
I really appreciate hearing that. There is probably two or three times worth of editing then there used to be but I find it just helps things flow better.
Just discovered your channel the other day man, I like your content.
I’m a G and 3/4” scale guy and didn’t have a great appreciation for the workings of the HO stuff till I started watching your videos.
Maybe someday I’ll give the small stuff a second look.
Get into Z scale 😂😂😂😂
I’ve had pretty much everything aside from Z (and S) scale at one point or another, 3/4” scale is just the happiest medium between N scale and 1 1/2” scale.
Keep your eyes pealed. Sometimes you find someone getting rid of an entire set real cheap.
That's a really cool locomotive.
What a great looking loco! I love the paint scheme and I love this video as well! Keep up the great work SMT!
We have gotten so far now. O scale advancements!
Nice looking engine and the track layout. I'll keep that in mine.
Amazing Video Harrison! I will love to see it running on a live stream!
This thing is so sick, but there is larger models than O scale, märklin has a thing called G scale and they are massive, but great vid👍👍👍
Never thought I would see this on the channel.
The Williams stuff is pretty bulletproof but get yourself an external circuit breaker and some Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) diodes to protect the electronics on that locomotive. As you know, I operate and collect 3 rail O gauge and my experience is that Williams trains are just about the ruggedest modern O gauge trains out there.
John Blair - Is there a source for those items that you could recommend to SMT?
Would it be better just to find a more modern controller?
@@SMTMainline A decent one is VERY expensive. A new version of the one you have is WELL over half a grand. and the ones that come with new starter sets are GARBAGE.
@@johnblair8146 - Would you recommend one of those MRC controllers with the separate transformer?
@@SMTMainline - You could get one SMT and use the ZW for your Hudson, Scout, & Marx locomotives. You could connect both controllers to a DPDT switch to the track, like you did on your HO layout to choose between DC and DCC.
Serenity! We have a runner! Should run being brand new. Cheers from eastern TN
Hermosa locomotora
SMT stepping up his o scale game 👍
we had one of these for ever it seemed, and we finally sold it this past Big E show... never know what you'll find there, I highly recommend the Big E train show.
My brother is an engineer for metro north railroad. He runs those all the time on the Hudson line.
Hey smt can I recommend your channel on my channel. Great video love the mix of scales.
Have you ever thought of trying to make a mold of a locomotive shell or rolling stock and casting them from plastic or silicone. There is an interesting video about it on youtube. Just search for a video called making your own model train cars using silicone rubber and urethane plastic. You also could make molds for other small parts you would want to make.
Wow this locomotive looks great you should get more o scale trains and tracks
Where's Elsa and Anna, Harrison? Nice change up for the Lionel track. Needs something bigger to go around it though.
Thanks for sharing. 👍🐾👍
I'll have a look for that car, they couldn't fit under a shelf placed over the track at one point lol
Cool Harrison you've got a good product for shure! If you need to get in that passenger car turn the thumb screws on the roof! Thanks man!
good show. ☺
Wow, can't believe I got here 36 seconds after the upload!
SMT that is not the P42 but it's actually a P32AC-DM It's because of New Haven Genesis units are from 228 to 231 they were 4 units are owned by Metro North and Connecticut Department of Transportation.
I kinda said that in the beginning. This model is a P42 because it's not prototypical.
What is the difference between a P32 and a P42?
Nice, looks like a good loco. The thumbnail gave a bit of a chuckle
The background is a picture of the locomotive's cab. I had fun making that
Excellent!!! Buy!! Looks very strong!!
Take good care of it
That is super cool locomotive
Nice Harrison. I can’t believe you bought a o gauge locomotive train in quite awhile. Btw glad your feeling excellent man after you were alittle sick from the livestream!
Bought mine a month ago, still in the box...... I purchased the NH freight cars from Menards, going to have mine as a modern freight consists .....just something different 😁👍❤🇺🇸
pretty cool to see an HO scaler doing an O scale video, not alot of HO scalers do that so im pretty impressed you did an video of O scale, Im an O scaler based in manitoba, so its pretty cool seeing this video, I would recommend trying lionel or MTH, especially legacy or premier, I have one williams locomotives, they arent the best at detail if you compare it to lionel and MTH, but its still a good model to have and smile about, anyways very nice video.
I've been thinking about getting some MTH stuff for a while now, I'm just not sure what I want from them and they are a bit on the pricy side.
true, o scale is pretty pricy half the time, you should see the vision line stock of Lionel, those are like 2,000 for Canadian dollars lol
HOLY when you took it out I’m suprised it’s that big
Now you have just gone down the rabbit hole of ogauge trains it's about time congratulations on your new engine now how many ogauge steam engine are you going to get that's the million dollar question
I think space will decide that.
That is a beautiful engine SMT! Can its whistle be activated by the ZW's whistle control? Many model railroaders/railway modelers have more than one scale or gauge. Leonard Williams has may differently size trains from TT scale to Gauge 2. With the Vista Dome car, you could say it is a "mixed" train. I recall Lionel offering a mixed train set many years back that had a New York Central RS3 with a box car, tank car, NYC streamlined coach, & NYC streamlined observation car. In 1951, '52, & '53 the Sears and Roebuck Christmas catalog had Marx sets with both passenger and freight cars.
It doesn't seem to work that way but it's probably the way I wired it rather than the controller or locomotive.
That pretty cool man I wonder one day will you build your own train museum? You have a well amount of stuff to do it.
That would be awesome!
I'm not sure if you know this, but I didn't know Menards now sells O Gauge trains until I saw Eric's Trains review on the UP F Unit.
I think that I have the exact same kind of Sunoco tanker!
Wow, very cool loco!! 👍🏼
That is huge
Oh nice a o scale new haven loco
We have one that runs in Connecticut and it used to be Amtrak unit. Now it runs the CT rail commuter rail . From I believe New York all the way to to Springfield Massachusetts
next step is to buy like 8 cars for it ❤❤
hello smt mainline it's is randy and i like yours video is cool thanks friends randy
Nice O scale. I have a friend who does the scale in Seaboard air line.
👍👍👍👍👍👍
You could probably run your old Lionel locos on the new track to
Also you should get some railcars for the loco
🤠
All P32s have front doors unlike the Amtrak versions, due to operating in the Park Ave. tunnels.
Nice ❤️ 👌 👍
Aa first comment and like live your vids and has helped me a lot through my life love you man
Cant go wrong with New Haven
Cool you got something in O gauge Harrison.
that looks cool
If there are coaches for this loco you should try to get some, they would look nice
Uh oh 😟 you’re messing around with O scale 👍 once you get a good grip on that there’s no telling what will happen next 😂
I wonder if you ever plan on doing an O scale collection video in the future
Let alone an updated N scale collection video
Hope you're feeling better
That’s a nice locomotive, I would love to have o scale but don’t have the room
Awesome. Love large locos. The bigger the better. I make my own trains II-m scale. Can't wait to shoot my first video. You have great lighting in your vids. Is it regular fluorescent light in the basement?
Thanks, most of my lights are standard LEDs which seem to work quite well.
Why did you change the thumbnail, I liked how it was. 🙁
I dunno, I guess I felt like it didn't match.
Sam would you liked some Lionell trains cars I don’t use much would like some and I have a Kline New York center diesel twin set that don’t let me okay
Amazing bro.. 🤘
Very nice
Nice weathering on those Lionel cars... 😉 What brand of track is that?
Like the new track
O scale P32AC locomotive.
O scale tracks.
I don't have O scale trains.
Just HO and N scale trains.
I thought you already had an o scale track setup
Want some more O scale stuff?
