Absolutely love your channel. Unfortunately the constant ads from UA-cam make it difficult to enjoy.
Glad you enjoy it! Popular videos tend to get more ads. Apologies about the inconvenience caused. The very little revenue made supports the channel.🥰

My parents are making me learn arabic, since I live in Middle East and I’m Kurd which makes it important for me to learn because we have 3 arabic lessons each week in my school. So this is helpful and I’m so scared bcz I’m really hoping to learn Arabic during this summer holiday.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I wish you all the best with your learning. It's always good to learn a language. Arabic is one of the most widely spoken so it will certainly be useful. This channel is Lebanese colloquial Arabic. You can also follow my standard or formal Arabic channel, the Arabic you study at school. I am running a vocabulary course now and have lots of useful lessons and a playlist for A level and GCSE Arabic.

I just started with learning arabic and in order to speak with as many arabs as possible I'm learning the levantine dialect for speaking and I'm planning to learn MSA for understanding purposes only.
Do you think this is an effective strategy, and do you have any tips?
(I chose levantine over egyptian because it sounds beautiful and I have good syrian friends who want to help me out.)
Definitely. This is a well rounded approach to learning Arabic, as most written material is in MSA and speaking wise you can't manage without colloquial. Best of luck 🤩🏆
Nice vid
Thanks
I'm the same who asked on Instagram. I'm very confused. In the question"where do you live?" you use the verb in the participle. I've seen it somewhere else with the phrase "mish fahem", etc. But when it comes to asking "what you work?" Is that the conjugate form? "bteshteghil"? ,"b7eb is conjugated too.
It can be a bit confusing for beginners since we have a preference for which verbs we use the active participle to express. I am planning a detailed lesson just for this purpose in the future. So far I have 2 brief posts on Instagram about this. I am not sure I have seen your comment. Maybe I missed it or forgot? Please tag me again with any questions
instagram.com/p/CAXFwrng0b0/?igshid=c5xp5ir883sd
instagram.com/p/CAfXU8ag9m5/?igshid=7rapqxhridlw
We use the active participle to express verbs with a progressive meaning or an action that is still relevant to the presenet.
Wen seken? Seken bi Beirut. "I have been living in Beirut up to now" of you want to compare it with English. Sarle zamen seken bi Beirut. صرلي زمان ساكن ببيروت. I have been livnig in Beirut for a long time. We would manily use seken and not beskon.
"Shu bteshteghel" is in the simple presenet tense conjugated for "you". It is a daily or routune action. The simple present is used for routines and daily habits, permanent or repeated actions or personal preferences: bhebb essport بحب السبور I like sport. Beshrab halin essobo7 بشرب حليب الصبحI drink milk in the morning.
As for مش فهمان I don't understand or I have not understood. We use the active participle for actions related to thoughts and feelings or senory like سامع الموسيقى برا؟ seme' el-mosi'a barra? Can you hear the music outisde?
Also for future sometimes: وين رايح اليوم؟ wen rayeu el yom? Where are you going today or going to go?
ما فهمت I didnt understand. مش عم بفهم Literally I am not understanding.
I am preparing a detailed document and lesson about verbs and the active participle. It is still work in progress. I can send you a draft link on Instagram.
@@spokenlevantinelebanesearabic you have answered on Instagram as well, shukran! And this answer now clarified things to me, thanks ever so much!

I finally decided to learn the dialect of my family, after a lot of time dabbling with MSA. I like the Levantine dialects but that "bt-" sound in words like "bteshteghle" kills me haha.
I have a question, I've noticed that the letter ع is pronounced way softer in Lebanese dialect than in others like Gulf Arabic or Moroccan Darija. Is my guess correct or am I having trouble listening?
Great video!
Well done for taking the decision to start learning! I think because generally speaking Lebanese is considered the "softest: dialect, you might percieve that.
With lots of listenint you will get used to the sounds of the langauage. All the best and thank you for watching.
Is Lebanon good for visiting and is it like Israel, its like a neighbour so if I liked Israel will I like Lebanon? And what's the difference between the Maghreb and the Levant including Lebanon ? And so they speak French?
Hi. Lebanon is my home country. It's the most beautiful Middle Eastern country in my eyes. People are friendly and welcoming of tourists. Levantine language umberella uncludes: Lebanese, Syrian, Paletenian and Jordanian Arabic dialects. Maghreb that would refer to countries in North west Africa like Morocco and Tunisia. They have different dialects.
Here's a short video about Lebanon, by a travel blogger:
ua-cam.com/video/Dp_SeQdEFF8/v-deo.html
And yes a lot of Lebanese speak French (not all), as we were a French mandate after the Ottoman era and until our independence. Most speak English, especially the younger generation and those who work in the hospitality industry.
There is no such thing as Israel, the country you’re referring to is Palestine, have some respect especially on an Arabic channel

تشرفت بمعرفتك
It's a very common expression literal meaning:
I was honoured by your-knowing
i.e. it was a pleasure meeting you.
Also: Tsharrafna = honoured/pleased to meet you. تشرفنا
Adequate reply for that:
Esh-sharaf elna الشرف إلي
The honour is ours. (We are the lucky ones to meet you, like right back at you...)

3Umre tes3a w-khamseen sine.
(My age is nine and fivety years literal translation. We start with the ones first and then the tens. We use "w" meaning "and". Sine = year. After 10 counted noun becomes singular, so sine and not sneen/years.)
Same for both male and female.

Bravo. Well done. 🥰
When you are in Lebanon, you never hear مرحبا ! Or اهلا و سهلا
Marhaba is our native hello and ahla w sahla is our "welcome/hello". Young generations now prefer English or French. Personal choice. I grew up using them as well as Hi/Salut/Bonjour etc. 😊
Thanks for your reply!
Actually that was my experience in Lebanon.
Most of the people in hotel and other tourist places use hi or bonjour!
You are very welcome. I am holding on to "Marhaba" to preserve our beautiful language.🥰
Actually to be formal, I usually hear my grandma talking to her guests saying “ahla W sahla”

the problem is all your words have harakat, but when you learn those words there are not harakat in other word courses or when you see an arabic write in arabic
Hi and thank you for watching first. Well done for being able to read without diacritics🏆. Usually they are there for beginners and for us natives as children. As we gain confidence in reading we can read without them. Since the videos are for the widest range of people and especially beginners, I prefer to use diacritics to make them more accessible.
@@spokenlevantinelebanesearabic I never said I can read without harakat.. how am I ever supposed to learn to read and write arabic without harakat
Ahh ok. I misunderstood. I see your point. Valid concern! I can recommend you copy the phrases/sentences without harakaat and practice reading them again. Make your own flashcards with one side having and the other not. In my MSA channel, I have a short course that includes some practice. I will also release high frequency words videos. I will drop the link in another comment.
