    I was wondering how we should get the seeds from a cabbage. Thank you for this info. Should I still wait for the plant to die or dry out before cutting the stem and hang it to dry? I’ve got so many seeds inside but it seems like it is taking forever for the seeds and leaves become dry.

      Not necessarily wait to die but wait until pods turn yellow, then it's done

    What temperature do you get? My cabbage turned to mush after winter since I’m up North.

    Please, I would like more clarification from you. Do you mean that the cabbage seeds start to grow a year after the harvest of the cabbage itself?

    • @GardeningGays
      @GardeningGays  Місяць тому

      Cabbage will eventually bloom, usually heat triggers the blooming. Cabbage is usually planted in cooler months if not harvested it will bloom. It takes about 4 to 5 months from seedling to bloom

      Thanks for your reply. That means I do not have to harvest the cabbage till it produces seeds.

    Hi...i live in zone 6b and our winters t really cold and snowy...how can i overwinter my cabbage plants to collect andsave seeds for next yr...also...do you cover your cabbage plants to keep insects off

    • @GardeningGays
      @GardeningGays  2 роки тому +1

      We are zone 6b or 7, and we just leave our cabbage outside in the ground. They can take 20s in the winter. Below that they need to be protected, covering them with the paper bag works just fine.
      As far as insects go, depending on what time of the year we plant them. Warner the weather, more insect protection they will need.

      @@GardeningGays hi...thank you for your help...i grew the cabbages from seed..and I liked them so hoping I could save seeds from them...i don't know if their an heirloom variety or hybrid..i started them from seeds..theyre a green cabbage..it was my first time and I had a lot of trouble with moths butterflies and the worst..wete the brown slimy slugs

    • @GardeningGays

      They like colder weather, plant them earlier while there are less bugs around. We plant ours late March or early April

      Great question, you can, unfortunately there is no guarantee that cabbage from those seeds will be the same color

      This ornamental cabbage that we planted, watched grow, enjoy its glory the whole winter, watched it bloom the next spring and collected seeds in the summer is most DEFINITELY the Ornamental cabbage
