    I find that I am slowly learning all of this and it is AMAZING, I have to rewatch these videos over and over again each month so that more information sinks in and it becomes second nature when a similar scenario pops up, the "make your answer into a story" is a great tip that I'm going to drill in harder as I still find myself speechless when asked "where am I from" or other boring-ish standard questions. I'm find it so easy to make friends/conversation at crazy parties/festivals but around "normal" people is so harrrddddd o.o

      This may sound hilarious, but it''s true.
      In England where I live it's considered very rude to ask a new friend what they do for a living, even if you are dying to know. So you ask, How do you get to work. The reply ought to be along the lines of "It takes me an hour to get to the hospital by train", and they will say e.g. "Oh, are you a doctor ?" I didn't know about this, so when a person I'd never met before asked me how I got to work I was very surprised, and would say "By taking the tube", which of course offered no such opening.
      Of course with so many working from home now this doesn't work so well...

    OMyG I was just thinking this like 2 days ago - I was like The Rock has really grown into a really lovable Charismatic person and I think it all changed for him when he got over depression and his insecurities. I know because I too used to be reserved as well and it was when I started to love and accept myself. It's has gotten a whole lot better. I've followed his career since 98 and I see the positive change and that truly inspired me to do the same as I grow in my career as an actress! Thanks for this!!!

    (care about your first impression, grab their eyes in the first 3 minutes)
    4:42 Go beyond face value of a question, answer what they're really asking
    (tell a story instead of a fact when you feel like they really care about your stuff)
    ex: "and I'll tell you why"

    You might have missed something in the way the Rock uses his voice. He uses modulation as a way to control the emotions of the people he is speaking to. When he is trying to "electrify" a crowd, he is loud and bombastic, but when he is trying to elicit more gentle emotions, he uses a softer tone. It's worth trying in your own conversation, I think

    One of the most valuable lessons i ever learned was from a career coach that gave a talk I attended. She said she was an introvert but her profession requires that she be extroverted in certain situations and she learned to turn it on and off. I did the same and have 'fooled' people (not on purpose) into thinking I'm an extrovert in my work life which also requires it at times.

    • @TheCrazyCapMaster
      @TheCrazyCapMaster Рік тому +1

      This is true, an introvert who isn’t experiencing full-on social anxiety can usually choose to be sociable… the real difference has to do with our emotional “battery”. For extroverts, spending time shooting the breeze with friends will generally help to fill that emotional battery; for introverts, even hanging out with our closest buddies will still drain the battery. The less we know you, the faster that battery drains, and it only really recovers when we get to have alone time.

    Two possible theories:
    1) The Rock was in a horrible toxic relationship and that bleed through to his interviews, someone like Jada Pickett.
    2) The Rock died in 2004 from Wrestling and a Robot took over his body and was programmed to be a movie star, win the world over and then run for President. Prove me wrong 🌎

    think i've said this before but im hoping for a video where we see charismatic traits in less physically attractive people. You mentioned it in the video and it got me thinking how conscious i always feel when i try it out. Top Kek there’s a chris Evans video that Charlie did a while back on hand movements :-)

    • @TheCrazyCapMaster
      @TheCrazyCapMaster Рік тому

      What I’ve come up personally with with regard to hand movement, boils down to two points:
      1. The human eye is naturally drawn to movement, it’s instinctive… so as a person waves their hands around, others tend to pay more attention to them just because of that.
      2. One good way to specifically use your hands is to paint a picture in the other person’s mind. When talking about an event that’s happened, you point to somewhere, you use colorful descriptive words, you look over where you’re pointing and back at the person, you wave around to indicate stuff like where you were relative to the elephant you saw on that safari. You trigger their imagination to start filling in the blanks, and your hands are guiding their eyes to where things are in the picture you’re painting.
      These people have also mentioned that extending your hands and arms takes up space around you, which makes you larger and thus a focal point of attention.

    I'd love to see a video like this about Dave Grohl's evolution from quiet, goofy drummer, to the music legend he is now. I always see him and The Rock as very similar, with both of them being people I look up to.

    Hey, can you make a video on how to rally a crowd behind you, how to make them cheer when you make a speech. How to make other people pumped up? There are many examples of this, the first one that comes to my mind is in the Spartacus season 1 finale.

    Excellent video, thank you! I appreciate how you used some of the techniques discussed in the video to introduce/frame certain clips differently, we got to see the skills played out by The Rock *and* by you! Also, there were no aggressive camera pan ins/pan outs, which I have critiqued in other comments.

    At 15:22 "Of course he was going to let you win; that's his job."
    It's not always a guarantee. There were some wrestlers (like Vader) who disliked Hulk Hogan so much, they refused to "put him over." And Hogan asked Vince McMahan several times to "talk" to Andre the Giant to make sure Andre was going to let him win in WrestleMania III. So, it's not always a given.
    Nonetheless, excellent video! Just added it to my Favorites list.

    I love the Rock! His early clips show a prime example of "sports speak" - athletes are trained to talk a certain way and it's sooo boring and monotonous. Then he became an entertainer and therefore his persona changed. Now he's an engaging actor as well.

  • @bryanryan4504

    It is easy in an interview format where someone is there to listen responsibly. But in a casual situation in a group it is harder bc you can feel like you're losing their attention when you speak. Thus sparking feelings of rejection and then loss of confidence.

    • @diegofel99
      @diegofel99 2 роки тому +1

      @@StreetN1ckel I agree with you. My advice is to find common things that the group shares in common but don’t overuse it as a topic of conversation as you will be very monotone. If the group doesn’t have that spark then it’s ok, find another group and try another technique. Some people will simply not be as involved, even if you are the rock

    Hey Charlie, A great breakdown of his Hollywood persona. Since I'm a wrestling fan, I can say that his persona was present even in his wrestling days. But, it has been seen by only some very selective people, who are wrestling fans. So, it would be awesome to breakdown his charm, and charisma while in the ring, that made him the most popular wrestler on the planet, and was a major boost to his Hollywood career.
    P.S: sorry I said Charlie, I don't know the other guy's name. But he's great too.

    The man retired from full-time wrestling at 30 years old. He became one of the biggest stars and legends before he even turned 30. That has never happened before. Almost everybody knows who Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson is and the big part of it are the movie fans but 80% of them are the people who fell in love with Dwayne at the time when he was back in WWE/F. This man was homeless with 7 dollars in his pocket. He will forever be beloved and a legend.
