Yeah, and plus the last movie they were working on (Nimona) before they were (unceremoniously) shut down by Disney got picked up and finished by Netflix and gained critical acclaim + won/was nominated for several awards, pretty much leaving Disney's 100th anniversary celebration film in the dust as a final F you to them.
3D animation: We hired 3 tech artists to procedurally solve this issue so we can theoretically have infinite scenes with it 2D animation: The pain never stops
whenever i got to this part of the movie, i always wondered how many key frames it might’ve taken to animate it, obviously forgetting that simulation technology exists lmao
This is why I personally love working in 3D graphics. You get to work with some of the smartest people, use a bunch of math and technical know-how, and at the end of the day you do all that to make a fat guy jiggle good 😄
yes, the part his body become "fluid" and need to transfer his face animation by influences ( you can see the attribute transfer blue / red masks ) , when they mention 'combination of packages'...so probably a combo of the tetrahedralize for volume preservation ( so looks like a volum e with actial mass under , houdini is very robust with Tetras) + the face animation from the rig (the maya one )
"Early script versions called for his body to liquify for only one or two shots, but the first tests were so successful that his role was expanded to fill a whole sequence" Translation: "watching this heavily tatted sumo wrestler jiggle and pour like the world's fanciest jell-o made the entire meeting room pee themselves laughing, so we've stretched it to 3 minutes"
They're not using 'corporate speak,' they're using words that are specific to their field. The words, "simulation technology," isn't just a magical corporate buzzword, they're quite literally describing their jobs. Sounds like a skill issue on your part.
At least Blue Sky went out with a bang. I mean, this is a big moment in animation history!
