One of the most powerful songs ever written hands down.
🙂
She's incredible
A few seconds ago I was watching an episode of The Leftovers. All of a sudden, one of the most beautiful songs I have heard in a long while is played on a scene. I just remember the words "God can be funny". I stop the episode, come on UA-cam, search and find this jewel here and this wonderful singer. My most precious discovery of the year.
Exactly what happened to me, right now, tonight. What a song! Makes you stop right in your tracks, doesn't it?
@@lisabenneett4735 it completely does. I come back to it once a day since then.
me too
I also came from there😂🤝
@@amir0_0rima That's crazy. Too many coincidences here. We should let the showrunners know somehow.
Just saw this on the Leftovers. Brilliantly placed and heart wrenching. Great song all its own though.
I totally agree so I don't need to repeat the sentiment. TY.
Yup, well done Leftovers.
+hondagal28 incredible that show, and this song is heartrending

6 years ago, this joke will work .. Hope everything is ok :)
A buddy of mine died this week and he lived across the hall from me so we would often hang out together and share artists we liked on youtube. Regina Spektor was one of the ones we both loved and this was his favorite of hers. I was likely the last person he hung out with. He was 38. It sure is different watching this now. RIP Brent.. Miss ya buddy.

Hey. Just in case you're missing him and no one knows it... What's your favorite song he sent you? I'll listen to it when you answer this, and you can keep him alive in me, buddy. I'm sorry about your friend.

The exact reason I came to this song bc of the leftovers.
Regina's mind is the most beautiful place to be
I just found out about the sad news earlier today. This was the first song that came to mind. While I rarely RARELY listen to her songs, I’m a huge fan of Regina and I absolutely love her, I hold her and her music so sacred that I don’t listen to them often because they make me cry. I never knew her father personally but somehow learning of his passing hurts in a way that feels similar to as if it was my own relative who passed. Maybe it’s just the impact Regina had on me that made it so. It is never easy dealing with loss, let’s all wish Regina and the Spektor family peace and love and resolution, and may we honor her father by continuing to support her and her work. He is now up there laughing heartily with God. Покой с вечным миром, Илья Спектор. 💝
She is right. No one is laughing at God when they can't think clearly and there are more pressing matters.
It's a pretty disastrous place to be in when you can't think clearly during a very critical time in your life - that's a recipe for abject failure. When you find yourself in a situation in life where you are completely helpless and can't better your circumstance under your own power, nobody with a heart would laugh at you for hoping there's a higher, benevolent power that could get you out of your crappy situation in a safe and responsible manner, if that higher power wanted to help.
There is nothing shameful in asking anyone or anything for help when you're desperate. It is pretty heartless to mock people when they desperately need help, however.
Not laughing at Harry Potter then, either.
@@xredhead7135xLol, some people do turn to Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling, the authoress of the Harry Potter was living in poverty before turning to her characters and in doing so making millions off them. Unlike Rowling, who turned to writing in desperate times, a great many more people have turned to God and have testified to having considerably more success at turning their sad circumstances around, or at the very least finding the strength to gracefully endure their unfortunate circumstances.
Point is, God has a better track record of saving people than writing does. That ought to count for something, even in your secular mind.
People aren't hearing the song right, she's saying no one laughs at God in these terrible situations, we make jokes about God, or people brush him off like he doesn't exist(whether you believe or not, doesn't matter), but when the going gets tough we aren't laughing at God, we're praying, and that last bit "laughing with God" that's the tearing up, the way we hysterically cry during a tragedy, just as God is.
I disagree. I believe she's saying that no one mocks God when the tragedies befall one of us. She's saying that God is laughing at us. He's laughing WITH the people laughing at us.
Hey, how about this perspective?
No supernatural entities exist.
None.
I adore Regina Spektor, and her music is some of the best a person could hope to find.
I don't laugh at the supernatural... because I have no need.
I wasn't speaking of my personal beliefs, dear. I was interpreting the song...
Gregory Kirsten , that's it. We are here to listen to a song by an artist that believes in God, and to comment about her perspective and her song. If you want to troll about it, please go somewhere else.
I personally agree with cpr196123, only that the last bit, I think she means that, when we made jokes about him, we really didn't mean to mock him, we just found the situation funny, and that He understands it that way. I base my interpretation on an interview Regina gaver where she talked about her beliefs. Really worth seeing if you are a fan or hers :)
doesn't matter wether god exists or not... she sings about people and what people do. as long as there are people laughing at or praying to god this song has its validity. it is not a song about an entity, but a song about the very people you are just arguing with...
a way to interpret the song (as far as i am concerned):
people are full of themselves and arrogant, when they feel good or secure;
the moment things are turning bad, they suddenly discover their dignity and humility....
This was the first song of Regina's that I ever heard, quite a few years back. It always makes me cry...
Same x. x.... First Song I heard of hers,... one of my personal favorites, ... always gives me chills,...
She's made a lot of good songs. I think "The Call" was the first of her songs I heard, back in 2008 at the end of Prince Caspian.
It makes me cry too....
Same
Same. "Samson," which is the first song of hers I ever heard, also makes me cry.
My interpretation of this is how no one believes in God when things are in their control; but when faced with a situation beyond their own control it's easier to look someone else to fix things, even if that 'person' is sometimes laughed at or disregarded.
Regina Spektor is wondrous. I am not a religious person but she does make the world a better place!
LAUGHING WITH LYRICS
No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one's laughing at God
When they're starving or freezing
Or so very poor
No one laughs at God when the doctor calls
After some routine tests
No one's laughing at God
When it's gotten real late
Their kid's not back from that party yet
No one laughs at God when their airplane
Starts to uncontrollably shake
No one's laughing at God
When they see the one they love
Hand in hand with someone else
And they hope that they're mistaken
No one laughs at God
When the cops knock on their door
And they say "We got some bad news, sir"
No one's laughing at God
When there's a famine, fire, or a flood...
But God could be funny
At a cocktail party while listening to
A good god-themed joke
Or when the crazies say he hates us
And they get so red in
The head you'd think they're about to choke
God could be funny
When told he'll give you money
If you just pray the right way
And when presented like a genie
Who does magic like Houdini
Or grants wishes like Jiminy Cricket
And Santa Claus
God could be so hilarious
Ha-ha, ha-ha
No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one's laughing at god
When they've lost all they got
And they don't know what for
No one laughs at God on the day they realize
That the last sight they'll ever see
Is a pair of hateful eyes
No one's laughing at God
When they're saying their goodbyes
But God could be funny
At a cocktail party while listening to
A good god-themed joke
Or when the crazies say he hates us
And they get so red in
The head you'd think they're about to choke
God could be funny
When told he'll give you money
If you just pray the right way
And when presented like a genie
Who does magic like Houdini
Or grants wishes like Jiminy Cricket
And Santa Claus
God could be so hilarious
No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one laughs at God in a hospital
No one laughs at God in a war
No one's laughing at God in a hospital
No one's laughing at God in a war
No one's laughing at God
When they're starving or freezing
Or so very poor
No one's laughing at God
No one's laughing at God
No one's laughing at God
We're all laughing with God
thanks for this
Amen

Perfect song for an amazing scene
+JC C Stupid song that mad a bad episode worse
Jesus guys don't taint Regi's comment section
She isn't hating on athiests (I am one btw). This is an amazing song, whether you believe in God or not. She's simply saying that people constantly misread religion as an excuse for terrible horrible behaviour "on the day they realise that the last sight they'll ever see is a pair of hateful eyes" or just downright selfishness: treating God like a genie who can fix their problems.
She's not hating those who don't believe, she is pointing out that there are way to many people in this world who use belief or non-belief as an excuse for terrible behaviour. And also that in the end, it is the human condition to look for help in a time of need and sometimes God is the only person (even though I don't believe, I know I would prey if I was in half of these situations she lists...)
Tilda Adade I appreciate your interpretation. I've never really been able to wrap my mind around what she's trying to say in this song. It's always seemed like a weird non-sequater kinda theme. Of course no one is laughing in the immediate face of tragedy... believers in the supernatural and others alike. We keep our minds and our hearts fixed on the struggles that stand before us. There's no time for god when "hands are wrapped around your neck"
Tilda Adade Exactly what I said when showing it to my friends whom are also athiest.
You're to intelligent to not believe in God. Buy a bible and read the entire New Testament and give it a chance.
No I'm sorry.. can't go that far I've tried reading the Bible and I just can't Get into something I feel is not real
You're an atheist and you don't object? That's on you.
This song always gives me the chills and a lump in my throat.

HITS..with a hammer?
I think that the message that Regina Spektor is trying to get across is that our opinion of God seems to change willy nilly depending on the situation we are in. The constant mention that "No one's laughing with God" whenever she is stating a depressing or sorrowful scenario highlights the fact that sometimes people believe God is evil and playing some sort of cruel trick on them when something bad happens. The phrase "But God can be funny..." tells of how, when life is good, people go back to thinking that God is just and good. The song shows that most of the time, people just want to blame god for any sorrowful event, and praise him when things are going good.
My god. The ending never fails to bring tears to my eyes.
Beautiful ending of a song. Beautiful ending of a life.
Heard this before The Leftovers but was a great placement in the season for this song. I love Matt. Not because he is a Christian but because he tries so hard to maintain his integrity. He walks the walk that so many other Christians simply talk. He is flawed, he makes mistakes, he is a human being but he never gives up on trying to be better than he is. Whether a person believes or doesn't believe in God is irrelevant in a way. It's about leaving the world a better place than when you entered it and treating others you encounter with kindness. In the episode he was asked what his favorite book was and he said Job. Everyone says Job when asked that question because it implies that you strive to be faithful. But Matt, the character, is himself a metaphor for the book of Job. God has "allowed" Matt to suffer and when something can be taken from it usually is. But, he never curses God. He doubles down he presses on with the good fight when others would have given up on God.
+The Road So Far Yeah, he's a great guy....he raped his comatose wife.
+tart green As confirmed in the finale, she was awake at the time and remembers.
He does not walk the walk. Matt Jamison is a classic example of a false convert. He drops the F-Bomb with zero conviction and says he swears proudly when talking to Garvey. He´s also Episcopal, one of the worst unBiblical denominations under the umbrella definition of "Christianity". No one born again, would act like that let alone, be apart of such an evil organisation. No one can leave the world a better place than when they entered it since the world is a fallen creation and we are sinners who inherently make it worse. The only thing, we can do to be saved from the hell we deserve, is to repent of our sins and have faith in Christ whose blood is the atonement for our evil deeds. God bless, amen.
The meaning of this song is beyond just the lyrics.
Honestly, she has an amazing singing voice I love iy
I love the fact that she has the courage and creativity to take on a subject like this in a 3 minute song. Very few others try. Such an original talent.
Simply genius. Love this song, her voice, the music, the piano, the lyrics.
Such a beautiful song! I worship no gods but I understand the beauty and horror of life, and that we all need to cling on to hope. Regina is a wonderful voice in so many ways.
Ih
God is real. People cling onto hope when they are inherent danger because they realize how valuable their lives are and fear death. The atheist worldview also makes zero sense.
@@Romans8-9 I have no problem with people finding their own ways in life. We can walk together on that path, with friendship and some disagreement. Take care and listen to your fellow man!
@@pianystrom8137 That´s all well and good but the path of those not in Christ is eternal punishment at death. God says no one is good, no one can earn their way to heaven since all have sinned, (I am sure you have lied, stolen, blasphemed at some or many points of your life). The fact you responded 8 years later is promising, please think about your eternity. Only repenting of your sins and having faith in Christ as your Saviour will save you from judgment day, God bless.
@@Romans8-9 Hello, how nice of you to think of my eternal soul. I think that makes you a good person. Thank you for caring!❤

Regina, you are spectacular!
She is so amazing. Her songs are all so original and meaningful.
I'm atheist & I love this song a lot!!! This song is amazing either you're a believer or not...
Exactly! Thank you for not assuming that all atheists are toxic and hate everything that has to do with god! :))))
Yeah I'm an atheist and I find this song so beautiful ❤️
I almost shed tears. This is beautiful.
I just want to listen to this on repeat forever!
With musicians like her i feel so glad, i can feel the honesty in her poetry and the notes she plays, no pretensions, without cheat, just real music!
I always get the feeling this woman is just smarter than the rest of us... in the best of ways.
I love Regina so much. Her music never fails to inspire me.
The first song I had ever listened to by her was Eet. Then Us and so on.. But once I listened to this one I felt something so moving. I am a bit religious but when I listen to this song it's not fully about that for me. It's a image she presents through the song that captures my emotions. Yes, I have my views about what she is saying but the song is so beautiful and everytime I hear it..I get so overwhelmed with emotions. Truely great musician.
Regina is so beautiful and her voice is breathtaking. She brings smiles and tears.
The Leftovers Season 2, Episode 5 brought me here!
Me too 😭
LOL same.
Same here '5 years later but I made it 🤗🤗🤗
Such an amazing scene
Same here. An incredible scene
Regina is Awesome ❤️
Regina addressed the meaning, or lack thereof. It was basically a conglomeration of thoughts and she said that she doesn't have any set belief, that's she's suspicious of people who do. lol She said she loves atheists and existentialists and that she writes based off random thoughts or experiences. I'll quote the interview below:
---
Some of your listeners have said that your latest album, Far, had too many religious undertones for their liking, and some have even called it “preachy”. As a listener myself, I feel your references are just drawn from your philosophies, maybe related to your background or to myths and stories that you enjoy. What are your thoughts on this?
*Spektor: Well, I mean, to tell you the truth I haven’t seen a lot of people saying that, but maybe you know more about it because you’re in the blog world. (Laughing) So I guess there’s a lot more talking there. Sometimes people treat records as if, “you sit down and now you write a record”, so they say stuff like that. I always hear people say, “Oh, Begin To Hope is such a more maturely written record than Soviet Kitsch,” or something like that. And to me it’s like, half of the songs on Begin To Hope are older than the songs on Soviet Kitsch!
Right! And it’s the same on Far, isn’t it? Some of those songs, you’ve been playing live for years, haven’t you?
*Spektor: Some songs on Far are older than both of them, because I included some of the songs from the time of my second record. I think the way a record comes together, it’s not really like, a reflection. Nothing is like, “and now I sit down and I write a preachy religious record”! I think I just end up… You know, I’m always thinking about philosophy, and religion, and spirituality; and how those things go together or how they really don’t go together, and where they help each other and where they really push on each other. And I love myths, and I love stories, and I love religion, and I love traditions, and I love atheism, and I love existentialism, and I love all kinds of things, you know, and my thoughts kind of fluctuate. So I think I’ve always written songs that are looking at it from all these different ways and so you know, it’s just like, it’s all over the place.
Your songs always have some sort of social commentary, whether it’s a criticism or just an observation. So what are your views on humanity and our society?
*Spektor: They’re all over the place! Just like my songs, you know? I mean, I think that’s why music is there, you know? In like one show, you could express 10 different viewpoints on the same thing because to me, I feel like I’m looking at it differently. In a show I’ll play “Laughing With”, and “Man Of A Thousand Faces”, and “Machine”. Those are three different ways to look at the world. You know, I don’t have, and I don’t really like-(pauses, probably to avoid offending). I don’t have any kind of set beliefs and I’m very suspicious of people who do.
To me it’s like, you know, there’s a lot of people that hijack religion, for example, and try and sell it-spiritual economics, I think there’s a name for it. I hate that shit! But I’m also really very interested in religion and really I think that some of it really… brings a lot of good, you know. It’s like one of those things, when you’re reading a book, and the first paragraph is really great and the second paragraph sucks, but it’s [neither evil nor] good.
I think music is just there for people to go into. So I will always write songs about anything that I think about. To look at a song as a thesis, is kind of silly to me. Then it’s just like, it’s what you were talking about, “being trapped in your art”. I think there are enough preachers out there; I’m not here to preach. I’m not telling people how to live, but I like thinking about how people live and looking at different things, and I will always do that.
Heard you in 'leftovers'. They couldn't have chosen a better song. Very, very well done.
Same way I found the song haha
I don't understand how she has such a perfect combination of originality, beautiful voice and stunning lyrics. She just. I can't even kjdklhjl hskld
thank you God. Great song Regina.
Regina Spector is a total goddess to me and definitely my idol and...... she always inspires me when I’m sad..
This is a beautiful song, and so true.
Her tone and voice are so beautiful
brilliant song. beautiful arrangement. love the cello, the voice, the subject matter, the pathos, the flow of the video; so much to appreciate
Pure brilliance.
No matter what the real reason for the song is, I think we should all just take it and savor it in our own ways. The true beauty of this song is not what it means to each individual person, but in fact the idea that it can mean so much to so many people. Because if we each take it in our own way, and never question what others think about the exact same thing, then we can be happy and the song will be heartfelt without all this arguing. So please, I only ask that we enjoy what's been given.
Everyone's reading it as a critic towards misuses of religion, but I think there's also something else... the final "we're all laughing with God" sounds so brave! To me it means we're all trying to be happy in spite of all the disasters and madness around us. It would be no merit to be happy in a colorful world after all...
She is a true musician. Thank you Ms. Spektor Regina Spektor
Relevant as hell right now..
Uma artista completa, de um talento incontestável e uma inspiração incomparável! Está a frente de muitos artistas que se mantém apenas pelo nome, não pelo talento dessa belíssima artista. Regina voçê é Demais!!
She's such a great artist. A true talent with a beautiful voice. Love this song! This and Samson are my favorites, just lyrically beautiful.
My father, who was never told once by his mother that he was loved.
I have hated what he's done, I questioned him, I doubted him, I have feared for him as much as I have feared him. Been rejected by him, and have been misunderstood by him, as deeply and deeper as everyone else ever has.
But I've known him. Seen his best intentions. And for all he's put me through, through his own anger, and depression and trauma and hate,
I still love him like God.
That good the world hadn't completely taken from him, I still aspire towards.
And if God is indeed that celestial father,
he still deserves the respect of being seen just the same.
Without excusing his faults nor denying his intent.
You want to know the difference between a god fearing man and a god loving man?
God loving men still care enough about his demons to call them out while still looking up.
"No one laughs at God if the last thing they see is a pair of hateful eyes...". I can't even. I love Regina Spektor. She's mah girrrl!!!
I've listened to this song for years, the song that made me fall in love with Regina but since I don't speak english as native tongue, I never actually put any attention to the lyrics till now and... I cried... I don't believe in God, but when I was a kid I did and this song speaks the truth
Oh you got me with this song!!! 🙏🏻 WOW!!!! Thank you!🎶❤️🎶
Just got out from a sickness where i was supposed to pass away , and it feels different listening again
beautiful song, beautiful video. why isn't she MORE famous?
I saw her in concert and she was great, I am glad that we have an original voice in these dark musical times.
I thought the lyrics were very clear, but people still confuses it
how can i say? this song is about those people who thinks in God as a "exchange of favors"
"when told he'll give you money if you just pray the right way"
if you are happy "Oh, God is wonderful" and if you aren't "God is so mean, He doesn't love us"
"No one laughs at God in a War" and "or grants wishes like jiminy cricket and santa claus"
I mean, God is not guilty for the evil in the world.
There is a song of a band here in my country that says
"Neutron bombs were not made by God"
I hope you can understand this quote.
and about the last quote
"we're all laughing with God"
I think the song 'What if God was one us" can answer
+Allan Menezes Thank you. Everyone seems to think it's legitimately about "God." or a pro-God song.
+Allan Menezes "God is not guilty for the evil in the world."
Yes, but only in the sense that there are no valid evidences for any god. The people who think there is a god and who worship it - worship something that does absolutely nothing while horrific things happen. Doing nothing when someone can - makes them responsible.
The only options for a god and evil are - god causes it, god can't or will not interfere or he does not exist.
AngryyBirdy86 you crearly didn't understand what i said
+Allan Menezes Which part do you feel was misunderstood and why?
The belief in god is used as an excuse for many types of real harm.
+AngryyBirdy86 and many times he is used as a reason for love...but no atheists remember that ;) (not a hater...just someone praying for younand wishing you blessings) xx
Omg this is almost ten years old. I feel old!!!!
I just heard about Regina Spektor yesterday 9/21/2013. That was the best thing I have ever heard she is very very talented god bless.
Such a beautiful song.
With religion being the only thing that is helping me through these rough times, this is what I can relate to. I couldn't survive life without him.
I can’t believe this song still touches me. It’s actually deeper. Eyes watered even after not listening for a decade. You go through life and then occasionally, you hear something poignant. Something that matters.
sublime! me encanta la simplicidad de su talento!
I know I’m late to this but I really love this song. I’m a person of faith but always keep an open mind to others & never judge & have been fortunate to have atheist friends who respect my faith as much as I understand why they don’t believe.
I kinda feel this song is a lil tongue & cheek way of that saying that a crashing plane can turn an atheist to religion joke. I don’t think it’s a hating on any side but just an objective observation. I think it’s about how people tend to laugh at the absurdity of the belief when bad people of faith spew hate or the idea of the granting of wishes mentality(which I very much agree are a problem), but then get angry & blame god when bad things happen. It points out both sides.
It hits me home because even as someone of faith, I’ve dropped to lows where I got angry at god when things went wrong, particularly with this past year when everything was going wrong from deaths, breakups, & financial ruin. I’m not like that now & now keep positive, but this song really puts things into perspective
I've been a bit at odds with god for a few years now since my best friend got murdered, and towards the end he carried around a bible like he was studying for a test.
I'm not sure how it all works, but I do think faith, at least in something is important.
I hope things have gotten better for you
@@jakesed23 I'm sorry for your loss, wishing you all the best. Keep searching
The song I remember most from the leftovers or any show for that matter it just resonates deeply with the tone of the show it is truly captivating I love the leftovers deep and cerebral is my kind of thing 👍👍
Just wanna say how much the leftovers is underrated it's incredibly done in my opinion I will say it's the most visually and emotionally alluring show I've ever seen although breaking bad is just a nudge ahead overall for my favorite series just barely two completely different feels
Good Girl, you inspire so many...Keep on going
Very deep song. I love most of her stuff.
super song...makes me cry...sad memories...
I hope your sad memories don't make you cry anymore.

Such an amazing song. Brilliantly clever video as well.

I fucking love her. fidelity is also a great song
didn't know she existed until the leftovers...
great song and it fits well with the scene....that sad sad scene :'(
This song is so relatable to me. I consider myself an atheist, but I do find myself praying when I can't reach my mom, or when my plane is experiencing severe turbulence. To me she really hits the nail on the head that in times of tragedy our skepticism goes away.
If you're praying, you're not an atheist.
@@jimmyittycheria1868 not really for you to decide is it
When you pray, your are talking to yourself. All prayer is, is positive self talk. That's why it works (sometimes). There's no man in the sky helping you because you asked him to. In fact that's a very selfish and naive way to think. God answers your prayers but, not the straving child's, for food, or the parents with a newborn with cancer. Only an evil God would do that. Take a simple philosophy class.
And I am sorry about your Mom, but she is at the ultimate peace. Take comfort in that.
Very lately discovered this, but I love this song. ❤️

+joco turnam BRUH this last episode was so legit. and Matt isn't my favorite character but his episodes are my favorite. he is such a bad ass in his own right
+joco turnam I do but I prefer kik. it's more legit
+TRAILERWATCHERP www.reddit.com/r/theleftovers
Don't know what everyone's talking about but I knew this from 7 years ago. What is 'Leftovers'?
sameeeee😂👌👌
It's a TV show about the aftermath of the Sudden Departure, a mysterious event where about 140 million people disappeared all over the world. It's mainly a brilliantly written, expertly acted show IMO.
Look how cool you are you knew a song before others. And you're humble-bragging about it...what a badass
So thankful for The Leftovers for introducing this song to me :)
The leftovers brought me here. I HAD to download this.
the fools who mock wisdom will be mocked by wisdom when their end is upon them....
I liked this song before the leftovers god damnit!
Kizzah363 This shit is fked. I hate fkn regina poser fans. I hope they get but cancer there I said it! ;)
+Jo p wow y'all so hipster 3edgy5me
Kizzah363 and with that very intelligent reply of yours, i can now leave satisfied.
Oh no! People know about it!!! It's RUINED!!! Regina can't be (gasp) FAMOUS!!!
I can tell you right now the single comfort in being told my Mum had cancer was knowing that it was nothing personal, that the universe is not arbitrarily governed and that death is the end of all suffering. Shock horror perhaps an even 'kookier' outlook than Regina's. Or just a rational and true one.
"no one's laughing at god when they see the one they love hand in hand with someone else and they hope that they're mistaken"
Really feeling that one now
I'm a very religious person and I love Regina, she's one of my favorite artists. This song touched me because it has a point. What kind of God lets all these bad things happen to people? I honestly don't know but I still choose to believe in him.
that's not at all what she was saying here
She's citing the hypocrisy of those who mock God when it's convenient, but as soon as the going gets tough, they're no longer mocking that's for sure.
If you are a genuine believer, you should know that human suffering is a judgment against humanity for sin.
@@Romans8-9 I don't think Ms Spektor would agree somehow. Sounds like a hateful theology right there.
What if there is no judgement and "We're all laughing with God"?
@@martifingers Whether she agrees or not, isn´t relevant. She is just a songwriter. Truth isn´t based on Ms Spektor´s opinion. I find the idea of an unjust God who doesn´t punish evil, more "hateful" fwiw.
@@Romans8-9 Yes it's correct to say that "truth" is not based anyone's opinion. However in my view many of us are seeking a path towards truth and the insights of artists can be helpful signposts. As can heavily contested scriptures, philosophy, psychology and so on. I personally find the notion of a punishing , vengeful God to be ultimately incoherent but I recognise that others have a different view.
In my opinion, I think people should just listen and enjoy the music, instead of criticizing. This song is beautiful to me, by the way ^_^
Some of the truest lyrics I've ever heard! I'm agnostic and I do like the occasional God joke (come on, they can be so funny). But oh when those terrifying moments in life come, logic goes out the window, my Christian upbringing bursts in through the door and I catch myself praying, doing the cross sign and feeling slightly guilty about all the God jokes. [The Leftovers brought me here too, btw]
Well I could tell you it's ok to have humor. If you're christian then your God is full of love & wouldn't be mad at you and send you the plague to punish you for being a foe. It's GOD, He doesn't need to prove anything to humans because he is not human, ergo, he doesn't have low self-esteem issues.
Joke around, say your prayers. Everything will be fine :)
But it's totally understandable because religion feeds from people's fear, maybe that's why you feel guilty.
religion is bullshit, dude, never feel guilty about the jokes. if god exists, she likes the jokes too, don't worry :D
Then youre just a christian in denial.
elliest 55 Same but what’s the leftovers...
Its an amazing tv show_you should watch it_i am on season 2 now
I love this song, wish Johnny Cash was alive to do a cover of it. The tone would be a slight bit more somber and sad, but it would sound awesome.
katsuboi 21 totally
Be a bit scary if he did a cover now, since he's been dead for a while... but seriously, I completely agree with you. He would be awesome with this one!
I am blessed with a voice very close to the man in black, but I only sing to my cows.
Lou Red would also rock with a cover of this song
Just the human nature in one song
Found out about her today.. I'm in love and I've never heard anything like her
Glad you discovered Regina Spektor! Similar in a way to Coldplay but different. I love the piano and original songs.
@@CynthiasTikka Okay this is really interesting... I completely forgot about regina with how my life has been, but recently on tiktok someone mentioned her new song and I was ecstatic and checked it out.
This was just yesterday and for some reason it feels very fate-like that within 24hrs someone replies to my comment on a video of hers hah, on top of that it's the only reply and maybe the only comment I've made too on her videos.
I think God likes very much this song. You are 100%true. All the people who feels God understand complitly this song. Thank you, Regina Spektor. God bless you!
