I made a ranged only build using the Harrower Delva Boss Crossbow with the Umbral eye that gives you unlimited ammo. It supposed to trade wither damage for the ammo but that 3 shot crossboy seems to just fill up your health as soon as you hit anything. Its pretty broken and just melts enemies.

The last level, that last big room in particular with the staircase, was absolutely brutal and beyond frustrating. The boss you mention with the monologue was also one of the biggest letdowns in recent memory for me. Decent game, and if LoP hadn't just come out and the performance issues weren't as bad, I think this game would have been received more positively. But the enemy spam throughout the whole game, as well as comical balance issues make this a significant step down from LoP for me. By balance issues, I'm referring to the fact that the levels were as frustrating as they were, and meanwhile I was absolutely melting bosses on the first attempt while practically face tanking with healing to spare. I used the 3rd boss's weapon, the halberd, fully upgraded it pretty early and respecced once to move 5 or 6 points from agi to str and I was tearing thru boss health bars in like 4-5 3 hit combos.

Unfortunately that's kind of how LoP is post nerf patch. As it is now the large respawning elite puppet mobs are harder than most of the bosses. Unless advance just happens to be busted, because that's how I've been playing through it.

I think a better way to put it would be, "Do you like sekiro, bloodborne and the accompanying world, lore, quality associated with those games. Or Do you like Dark souls 2 but not as obnoxious but still close and worse enemy variety?" Because LOTF reminds me a lot of what Ds2 does and i don't make it like a positive comparison. This game beats ds2 barely and that's a low bar to clear.
The game isn't all negative, i like how the parry system and rally system work, i think its fantastic. I also love the spell casting, i think this game has better spell casting than actual fromsoft games. And also extends to the throwable system. The weapon designs, some enemy designs and armor designs are also fantastic.
I like the aesthetic of dark souls, demon souls and dark fantasy in general. Lords of the fallen's aesthetic appeals to me a lot more than lie's of P but asthetic alone was the not enough to make that game enjoyable for me. The area's are rough with a lot of enemy spam, snipers, lots of useless trashmobs that just distract you, very very bad enemy variety. Like i've not seen a single unique enemy after like the 12 hour mark. Instead of the seedbeds i would've preferred a more tightly connected level design, I don't think this idea was executed all that well at all. The bosses were very disappointing, all of them just very easy. There are like 2 alright bosses i thought were fun-ish but even those were pretty easy. The parry sounds are weird, fairy dust sound. Weapon sounds are fine but i think there should've been some weapon sounds that were tailor made for specific weapons. Like pieta's sword is a light sword but for some reason it has the same sword sounds and same kind of hitstop.
Umbral looks cool and i love the look of it but overall i think their presentation is poor compared to lies of p. A lot of the area's feel same-y and muddied, the game is weirdly dark a lot of the times and the lighting freaks out way too often, it feels like exiting blightown type of lighting change but it happens frequently. Its fine they went with detail but they skipped out on how to present that in a form that is appealing. The demon soul's remake i think is good comparison, that game has a lot of detail but they also found the balance and how to present it.
Lies of P is just a better game, get that or get gamepass and play it on that if that's cheaper or if you already have it. it sucks to say because I really was looking forward to this game. its not terrible just disappointing.. the ending especially was disappointing. I won't bother doing ng+ or other endings.

About safety and stigmas, I think they do that on purpose...but maybe if the flowers that's like a safe spot kinda, I did notice the eye disappears and the red reaper guy will leave you alone and wait for you to move out of certain areas where flowers are, atleast if there's a vestige. But sometimes they don't care. Maybe if they make it like the flowers are safe, even if it's small areas to stand. It doesn't ruin the pressure the devs want to keep on you but you will atleast be safe till you leave the little area

I absolutely adore this game, despite all the jank. It's flawed in many ways, but for whatever reason, the flaws don't bother me at all. There are so many good ideas here, that just need a bit more polish, but the things that work well, work really well for me. I will say, however, I'm playing on PC, and if someone on Nexus hadn't made a bunch of optimizing engine.ini edits, this game would've been unplayable, and that would've been disappointing.

"A further patch this coming Thursday will see further updates made to the NG+ mode; instead of removing all vestiges (as it does currently), NG+1 will only see a few disappear while keeping the key locations intact. In NG+2, a few more will disappear, and then in NG+3 all but the main HUB (Skyrest Bridge) and Adyr's Shrine vestige will disappear. Too much detail isn't the issue. When it comes to visual design, you have to be able to design around that. Get people to pay attention to certain visual things with lots of technical methods. There is things you can do with color, or the way the scene is structured. It's the artists job to draw your eyes towards certain key items.

Nice review Ruri. Fair points made. I believe the number one issue with all technical crashes is crowd data. Devs get a lot of feedback from crash reports from various PC builds that exist in the market and they cannot build every variant. So it would have helped to do some Alpha or Beta testing with couple of content creators like you in the start to source all the crashes, collect the bugs and clean the code before final deployment. I hope they watch this review and pick a couple of constructive points with a positive mindset as there is room for improvement.

In literally every other souls game (except maybe DS2), exploration wasn't as hard as bosses. Here, bosses are much easier and digestible to tackle than exploration, and that's bullshit. You need to understand that you can't make a confusing world that players can get lost but make that more frustrating by making unfair traps, spamming enemies, or spamming ambushes. You choose between the two, but using both at the same time just makes you a d*ck.
People that enjoy this ambush/mob fest that's literally WORSE than DS2 are masochists of the worst kind and masking that as being "pro". If you can't clear every skirmish in this game in less than 2 tries like actually pro players, and you're taking the same or worse time clearing said skirmishes than the average player, you're not a pro at all, you're just a pathological masochist.

I will only accept that if they make Iframes negligible and emphasise more on positioning and dodging entire attack hitboxes - no Iframe combat.
DeS and DS1's combat are not methodical enough to justify their existence. If FromSoft for example want to continue Iframe combat, then there is literally no point in slowing the combat down

@@mhk6943 Right. This is why AC6's combat works. Positioning is given far more emphasis, and iframing is non-existent. It offers more ways to mitigate damage, and you can adjust how fast you "dodge" or strafe.
Slowing down combat when enemies are spammed against you doesn't make it methodical, it makes it tedious because of how little hits you can push back vs the 1000 attacks a whole battalion throws at you.

Great review. This is exactly what I predicted: there was no way the studio was going to be able to live up to the insane hype around this game, but it would be a decent game. They should fire their marketing. This should have come out as a sleeper success that punched way above its expectations and set up the studio for future funding success. Clearly someone got greedy and wanted to cash out by overpromising on their first real big ticket game.
The souls community keeps complaining about Elden Ring DLC release delay, but one of the things FromSoftware does very well is to keep their mouths shut, underpromise, and overdeliver. They learned their lesson from Dark Souls 2 and seem to now be immune from being rushed to push out unfinished product, at least for PVE. Other studios should do this too. Everyone’s vision is too short term, they seem to only care about making money on the next game instead of focusing on building a loyal fan base over a decade or more. Miyazaki succeeded in getting people who had never seen an Armored Core game to buy it because they liked other games by FromSoftware. That’s how you build real value, not flash marketing scheme.

If you're keeping up with upgrades (not over leveling, but upgrading weapon and some main stat), the enemy density is fine. You're supposed to like 2 slap the mooks, 4 shot the slightly bigger and badder guys, then 8 maybe for the really scary guys. You should be able to take former bosses pretty handily. This is just a rule of thumb, however i am basing this on a game mechanic. Your weapons should be hitting white to red numbers, if you're seeing grey, you're under leveled

    • @Xero_Kaiser

    • @yvannenikolainethercott5709
      @yvannenikolainethercott5709 Рік тому

Grey numbers = resistance. Your level does not matter. Your upgrades don't matter. It's not about people being underleveled. It's about the game relying on a crutch to make it challenging. The problem is, it overuses it. Hell, even on the very first area AFTER Pieta, the first few enemies you encounter are snipers from hard to reach places or plain unreachable places, not counting the THREE ambushes waiting for you from your VERY first drop, and they're LESS THAN 5 steps of each other, no kidding. This is not OK. If you're going to make a game challenging, make them smart and tricky, but don't rely on ambushes to make your trash (in both the mechanical and moveset sense) mobs functional because you hid them in a sneaky position. It's like the people who designed the mobs thought they'd be good hindrances to the player, but the gameplay department disagreed and instead of redesigning the monsters, spammed them and positioned them in sneaky places and situations.
It's not "challenging to keep evading or blocking for 5 minutes and get a single hit every once in a while to clean up a skirmish. When the bosses are less challenging than traversing the level, you KNOW the design is just trash. Bosses are BOSSES for a reason. I didn't feel bad trying Pieta 3x to beat, infact each between deaths it was invigorating, since it was fun to learn and deal with the delayed (cheap) attacks, but even dying ONCE because of the backstabbers or unrendered distance snipers felt EXTREMELY frustrating.
They call it their "vision", making excuses for bad enemy placement, but in truth there was a disconnect between the gameplay department vs the enemy design department. In Lies of P, they MAY rely too much on sneaky situations mentioned above, but at the very least, the more it happened between each Stargazer/Bonfire, the more rewarding the encounter was (could be in the form of Ergo/Souls, or items). Here, it's just there to hamper you, and discourage exploration. Instead of being able to truly explore, you spend 90% of your time cleaning up skirmishes, or just running past them to get to the boss where it's more enjoyable to fight.

The Souls Community should be happy their genre is getting more love and interesting games made for them.
The community needs to understand that Lies of P & Lords of The Fallen are 2 similar but different games with what experiences they provide. Lies of P is more linear when it comes to exploration but has a more polished combat system akin to SEKIRO.
Lords of The Fallen i see as more of a Dark Souls 1 experience (although plagued with omtimization issues & some jank) where the exploration and dual world Umbral system is the meat of the game hiding all sorts of goodies in there while also being a dangerous zone the longer you stay in it, its not supposed to be easy in the realm of the undead.

I've not been able to stop playing this since launch. I had to stop playing Lies of P after about 12 hours of the same environment, enemies and super boring level design.
LotF has some unfortunate issues, for sure. But its level design is on par with From Software. That's not hyperbole. If you're a fan of truly interconnected worlds with smart shortcuts and rewarding secrets, this game might actually be one of the best at it.
Both single player and co op benefit from umbral and the lamp mechanics. It's pretty intense when you're watching the clock while trying to fight your way to the next area back to safety. It can get pretty intense.

This is a Flawless Review, well done! LOTF is not made for people without patience, an amazing game in this genre should be both fun and Annoying to trigger the rewards system in your brain and make you excited while you pass through a certain area or explore or acquire loot ---- there must be respect for all the team behind this game, they did quite a lot, weapons and armor sets are amazing in this game - FromSoft is not close in terms of weapons and armors etcetera... - in my impression, this games need time to fix the unreal engine issues and can get 9/10

I'd be happy at this point if there are no game breaking bugs in coop. Been playing with a friend on pc and we've been having a blast but not being able to run or jump as a guest just sucks. Not to mentioned invisible enemies in the umbral world and having to spam the dodge button to climb ladders. It's been over a week and these issue have still not been resolved. I've checked online and apparently these bugs are only effecting those who are playing with their friends on steam.

I have been going back an forth between loving and hating this game, but over it was fun...The levels were the best part for me, I loved getting lost and exploring the world! I played on PC and I never had a single crash, but I had plenty of wierd visual bugs and enemies getting stuck and stuff like that...I didn't many performance issues either except at the main hub area, and the very last level, but overall it was pretty smooth...I'm not super sensitive to minor bugs and things like that, but my biggest gripe for this game is the lack of enemy variety, especially torwards the end of the game! They recycled alot of enemies over and over at the end...I really hope someone will make an overhaul mod for this game, because I can see alot of potential!

I totally agree with you on the visual clutter. I realized that just about every environment has a blanket of haze which gets really old. I think it could have worked in a handful of places for atmosphere but they went way overboard. There’s also just a lot of detail that doesn’t seem to add to the look of the game and even detracts from a lot of the more interesting visual elements and design language.
I also think that unreal engine doesn’t do a good job scaling the LOD (despite that being one of the main selling points). I played on PS5 and was constantly distracted by rendering artifacts like ladders popping out of existence but leaving shadows or particles of soot/snow/dust leaving trails or confusing scaled textures that ended up looking like white noise.
Lighting also seems to be an issue because it is so slow to load in some areas and I even had boss fights that took a second to render the boss and arena after the cutscene.

issues and the fact they haven’t fixed them on Xbox is atrocious especially when the games been out for Almost a month. 106 hours into the game, I've completed all the endings. I love love love the game, but like most people, I think it has some things to improve on. I want a chest for storage, I want the Bowl of Revelations/Remembrances to transfer into NG+, I want a way to sort through my inventory based on name/set, weight or type. I feel like they could've made resistances a little bit more impactful so that I had to put on a specific ring for a boss fight or use my consumeables more. I'd want a list of exactly which items you need for the specific trophies because the wiki is still lacking a little bit.
I don't have an issue with the sounds. The lock-on is a little bit fuzzy but you get used to the forward momentum and watching your step around ledges/heights. I think I read in one of the earlier patch notes that they significantly decreased mob density and boss difficulty which made me sad because my first run through the game it was difficult and challenging and it forced me to PLAN and THINK on how to get past a ridiculously mob-tight area. I had to develop a strategy, try it out several times before I succeeded and I enjoyed that, Souls-likes SHOULD be difficult, isn't that a major factor of the entire genre? So the fact that they made the game easier because people struggled was a bit sad in my opinion, especially with regards to the last bosses which were far too easy. I expect the last boss in a Souls-like to be a nightmare to fight through!
I have an old shitty PC and ran the entire game on medium/low settings. I only experienced lag/stutter/fps drops when I had updated the NVIDIA drivers and booted up the game, it disappeared after a minute or two. I had one or maybe two crashes in total in 106 hours of play and despite my low graphics I thought the game looked beautiful. Only textures/coding layers I saw were the lava from the Lightreaper. I haven't played CO-OP or PvP so I can't comment on that.
All in all, despite the fact that the game could've used another 6 months and more beta testing/feedback from the community, I'm in love with it and I'm happy to see the devs working so hard to make sure we're all happy with it.

The only time I would really go into Umbra was whenever the game forced me to move a platform for the sake of progression. They also could of used a couple more permenant vestige points. On paper allowing the player to lay down their own checkpoints is fine but in practice it kinda sucks. I always ended up saving my seeds for flowerbeds near bosses and literally just ran past everything. Maybe it was just me but the bosses felt a little too easy?

I haven't encountered any technical or performance issues. could be because I have a 4090, but I've been playing on 4k with all the max settings and haven't encountered any issues. I had some frame drops in skyrest bridge when I was playing borderless windowed, but after switching to fullscreen it was running at 100+ fps. other than that, it's all good. for some reason the v-sync and reflex settings are grayed out in my UI, so I don't know whether those are on or off and I can't change them, but I didn't notice any screen tearing or input latency, so I didn't worry about it, just kept playing. I imagine if you have a 20 series or 30 series GPU you'd be better off playing at a lower resolution/resolution scale, but surely there's a way to get the game to run at 60 fps consistently on any recent hardware if I'm able to get such good performance with these settings. the game looks incredible, I was frankly shocked at how consistent the framerate is.
Lies of P is also great in that respect, but it doesn't look nearly as visually impressive as this game does. I can see this game having a lot more replayability than Lies of P, personally. I don't really feel called to do another playthrough of Lies of P. before I get around to that I'll probably play more Remnant 2 and Armored Core 6, since those games seem to have more replay value. with Lies of P, all you get for extra playthroughs are stronger versions of rings, plus some records, which you're probably not gonna listen to anyway, because you can't listen to them while you're actually playing. whereas with Remnant 2 you can easily do 10 playthroughs and still not collect every weapon or archetype - the draw for new playthroughs are items that actually affect the gameplay. same with AC6, not quite as much there, but you get actual weapons and parts for further playthroughs.
I suppose that the souls games, bloodborne, and sekiro also had relatively low replayability in comparison to some of these more recent games. but the souls games had great PvP, and bloodborne and sekiro were just such amazing worlds and the gameplay was so incredibly polished that you could play them every couple years indefinitely and not get bored. I don't know that Lies of P's gameplay was really that compelling, nor was its world. it was definitely enjoyable for me, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who has enjoyed any of these games, but it's certainly no bloodborne or sekiro. honestly, nothing has ever come close to the feeling of playing bloodborne for the first time.

also, it seems like Lies of P is shorter? I finished it pretty quickly, and it would have been a lot quicker if I had played after the patches that made everything easier. previously I might have wasted like 3 hours fighting the semi-final boss of that game, because it was such an absurd damage sponge and its attacks are absurdly hard to dodge. not the enjoyable kind of difficulty, if I'm being honest. so I'm not surprised they made it easier, along with lots of other things. after removing some of that artificial difficulty padding the play time, the game is probably a lot shorter on average. I can't give an estimate since I leave these games running in the background all the time, but it just felt much shorter than lords of the fallen. actually, lords of the fallen is longer than any souls game I've played, I think. definitely longer than bloodborne or sekiro, right? maybe even longer than dark souls 2 with all its DLC, which is really saying something.

The game is beyond frustrating. I love getting lost and suddenly being lead to an area that is far above my current strength, but when it's so hard to get there because of how many ambushes or enemies I had to get through, it's not an appealing prospect. You'll find me just not bothering to explore, finding a good farming spot, farming my souls, getting the right levels, and then proceeding to the boss if they're going to do that.
Instead of encouraging players to explore this world they crafted, they are discouraging players from doing it. Creating tension is one thing, making it it hard but not equally rewarding is another. And inb4 "your reward is getting through the level/skirmish", no. Overcoming a challenge is one thing, but when you're giving me 80 souls + a consumable to slowly regen mana to kill an elite that takes 20 attacks to kill while they can 1-2 shot me, that's not rewarding, it's frustrating.

Lies of P, or LOTF, can only afford 1? Get Mario Wonder.....

Played lies of p on game pass, bought lords of the fallen, refunded lords of the fallen, and bought Wonder. It’s been amazing so far.

My suggestion is to get Lies of P and wait for LOTF on sales, if you still in doubt you can just compare them from livestreams just 1-2 episodes and you will see what i meant.

I'm enjoying it, but Lies of P was so much more polished. I hope they could fix the issues because there's a great game here. Lies of P was the shiznit though. GOTY so far.
