    10 free slings? I'm jealous. And you don't need to worry about your latin pronounciation so much, you're already better at it than any other youtuber I know ^^
    I always find it easier to pronounce the names when I know what it means, for example coloratovillosus is coloratum (colorful) + villosum (shaggy).
    Also can you tell me what those bigger vials in the video are and where you got them?

    • @DGamer166
      @DGamer166 7 років тому +1

      Those are plastic viles (aka plastic dram bottles) that have either a 1.5inch or 2inch diameter, I can't tell from the video. You can get them on kenthebugguy.com, that's where I got mine, but if you check the arachnoboards or just look around you should be able to find better deals on them. Also try your local hobby store, they'll have things like these vials that will be perfect for keeping slings.

      I know the smaller 25ml ones, I have hundreds of those. You can get them for very cheap from lab suppliers in packs of 1000. It's the bigger ones I'm interested in, and I haven't seen those anywhere. At least not in bulk, I'm not gonna spend that much money on a few when I know there has to be some place where you can get 1000 for like $50.

    I have a Thrixopelma pruriens! 😊 Her name is Ren. She is a notorious hair kicker! She is a lovely Tarantula none the less! I also have a B. Emilia. ....it's only an inch long. I also have a juvenile B. vagans whose very shy but eats well. Congratulations on your new additions!

    That is quite the come up! Congrats! I would really like to see a video on how and what you feed slings as well. I usually use flour beetles, pinhead rusty reds or freshly killed small crickets. I have tried Flightless fruit flies but haven't developed an efficient process that works. Seems more fruit flies end up outside the enclosure than in. Any experience would be helpful.

    • @Yolo1time
      @Yolo1time 7 років тому +1

      Just feed them with micro criket.

    • @DGamer166
      @DGamer166 7 років тому

      I prefer to just use crickets. The smallest pinheads tend to be roughly the size of the spider itself which gives it a nice heavy feed. Granted you might want to prekill it or pull its legs off for the occasional species that refuses to take prekilled prey.

    • @nicodimus2222
      @nicodimus2222 7 років тому +1

      Put small crickets in freezer. Wait until dead. Thaw them for at least an hour, and then leave the bodies in the vials. The slings will scavenge. They eat more readily at night, so that's when I feed.

    • @nicodimus2222
      @nicodimus2222 7 років тому +1

      Fruit flies have almost no nutritional value. Pre-killed small crickets are much better for the slings.

    You are going to enjoy the H. Gigas , I have an adult hysterocrates crassipes which is very similar both species will dive in water to escape or to catch fish from what I've heard and read they are obligate burrowers so you will have a pet hole but with any luck your'se will do its excavations near the wall so you can see its tunnels. mine built a massive tunnel in a few days I need to go back and remove some of the excess substrate and uncover its water dish.

    HA HAAA...That was so funny the way you said "don't be psycho" Love your channel even though I don't keep big fuzzy spiders......I have been keeping longbodied cellar spiders for few yrs. This spring I found Brown Widow and have her in a jar. My little hunters enjoy tiny black 🐜's. Webbing and the predatory actions are fascinating! I have a respect for arachnids since have had bites out in garden multiple times.
    My envenomators? 1 very large funnel web female bite took 4 YEARS to close! Oh and 1 hobo (pretty sure) mother guarding 2 egg sac under a brick (I not aware of her nest and pulled one weed too close) BAM on front lower leg. I looked down fast enough to see her run away and back under brick! My leg swelled up to hip,sweats,vomit,muscle pain was intense for first 36 hours. Don't mess with a Mama huh?! Thanks for all the interesting footage! from Seattle area USA

    If I remember right, Hysterocrates gigas do can "swim" but it's just an evolutionary development to escape floodings.

    • @haplopelmanolove
      @haplopelmanolove 7 років тому +2

      A short arcticle by Danniella Sherwood on the subject.
      I'd like to clear up all this nonsense that goes around about them. Hysterocrates CAN swim, but so can Haplopelma lividum (I've seen them do that) and Avicularia ssp. They are pretty good at it, but it does not mean its something they do all the time, in fact that could not be further from the truth. It's something they evolved to do for rare cases where burrows (or surrounding areas) became flooded. In regular circumstances they are never, ever in daily contact with water sources and don't go for swims to hunt fish. That is a one in a million observation, if it even is true at all. I highly doubt the validity of the people reporting them catching fish in the wild. It seems to be a captive phenomenon that people feed them wish. Just to illustrate that with another example, a friend of mine has a female Grammostola ssp. - which is WC, They don't live near rivers or streams, they live in arid areas. Yet when he offered it a fish, it ate it. Just because a spider will accept a prey item in captivity does not make it safe to assume they do so in the wild as part of their wild behaviour. Another spin off of this is these half land and half water setups. They are not necessary, they are hard to maintain and I just dislike them. Again, goes back to two of my previously alluded points. Firstly, they can swim, but other spiders can swim just as well yet don't receive this attention. Secondly, providing an animal with captive conditions does not mean you can then make an authoritative assumption about their natural behaviours in the wild.
      If you wan't to keep them, keep them on deep dirt substrate, keep it nice and moist (I soak the substrate completely every now and then) and feed them sparingly. Easy. :)

    I know you probably don't know many other spider names, but I keep finding very very tiny very dark drown spiders in my house, their abdomen is black and they have two white horizontal lines on their abdomens I looked up every possible way but I still don't know, will they grow larger or if they are poisonous, please help, I don't like them crawling on me while I sleep, it happens a lot
